Hi.
I tried the Mobile Tractor Unit today, and I have to say I'm a bit disappointed.
I run missions with my main and salvage with my alt, and thought I could just drop the structure while running my mission and then come salvage and loot with my salvaging alt. However, since the structure only launch option is "For self", I can't loot nor can I scoop the Mobile Tractor Unit with my alt. Is there a way to allow another character to loot and scoop, or was the structure intended for one-account solo players?
Thanks. |

Have the alt drop the unit. If your alt is in a fleet with your main, all the wrecks should be white to your alt and the tractor unit should be able to tractor them. Not 100% sure it works like that having never used one, but that's what I would try. |

Thanks, Archibald!
I'll try to do that with a fast ship so my alt is not killed by the NPC's.
Still, the structure being lootable by your fleet/corp would be nice. |

I often drop a tractor with my main, scoop it at the end of the room then drop a second tractor with my alt when I go to actually salvage. It's not perfectly efficient as the location of the second tractor varies and so it often ends up tractoring a bunch of the close wrecks pointlessly however it still does save quite a bit of rsi clicking. |

I have 3 accounts, and they all fight in the lvl 4s to get them done quickly within a hour and a half timespan from the first wreck created. I then have my one account that salvages while the other 2 tackle another mission.
I only drop a mobile tractor unit with my noctis because I want it to honestly pick up the cargo containers. So I tractor everything in just with the Noctis, salvage the wrecks and the MTU collects all the jetcans and consolidates them so then after all the wrecks are cleared I only have to open one jetcan and collect all the stuff.
In a perfect world, I'd drop a MTU in every area I fight, but I can't because I cannot fit that many much less one in my ravens and have other stuff ready to switch out for different missions.
So that's my method. |

It is mostly dedicated to solo account players, I never bothered with it, having the noctis on the 3. window while running L4s. It could save time if you deploy it when you warp your noctis in and warp it out after it, but normally my noctis is still in the last mission, busy to get the wrecks and the loot, so there is little point of using it this way.
Given that a noctis can tractor far quicker and you got sufficient key bindings to do it on the fly, it is just a casual tool for semi afk players(what is bad in my opinion, but then again everything was in rubicon), if you play actively on multiply accounts, it is a wast of time. Drop it with alt from some mildly overtanked brick, launch salvage drones and put em into salvage mode. Go AFK. Return a while later to scoop and move on to the next wreck field. Now thats in theory, I have not ran missions for a little while so can't comment how that would work in practice. Here, sanity... niiiice sanity, come to daddy... okay, that's a good sanity... *THWONK!* GOT the bastard. |

The way to use it is you deploy it when you start fighting, go to next site when you're done and deploy another one over there. And possibly do a third (depending on how fast you are). Then go dock, get in your noctis with 8 salvagers and go salvage each site in just a couple of minutes. No more need for a salvaging alt. |

You have to remember people, these things are 100 in size. It takes up a lot of space in a cargo hold. These MTUs ARE SLOW TOO. You will be waiting awhile, if you plan on picking it up and taking it to the next area. |

Pretty much this, a Noctis with T2 tractors doing +2,000m/s are way better imo. Also, i'd imagine you're doing the ninja looters a favor too by consolidating all that juicy loot for them in one place. |

Alts aside, you can't make a "new" player salvage and loot your missions after you cleared them with the MTU. They're forced to come and drop their own, then flee, or use Tractor beams.
The fact that a module that could be so useful for fleet missioning (which is already among the least rewarding activity to do in fleets) is designed only for solo players seems pretty dumb imho.
Not having a "Launch for corp/fleet" option is beyond my comprehension. |
