Would it be possible to get a cleanout of all secure cans that havent been openend in 3 months or more. There are probably tens of thousands of them littering eve. -- Rells

Erhm.. OK... I will go with that. People been moaning and groaning about it for... uhmm well at least 1.5 years. So, yea Pop the Secure Cans that Havent seen ANY action in over 3 Months. Or, better yet, Un-anchor them, and let them be a free for all.
I know a can in Secure space/the toon in NPC corp - it has 50k Zydrine in it. Damn It!!! Almost 2.5 years of playing, the toon never signed on, I have him buddylisted, and, havent changed the corp. So, its a dead can with allot of ISK.. Gimme!!!!

Indeed it is... and it is just hanging there like a candy I cannot touch! I first spoted it about quite a ways back, with my original toon. I been carying bookmarks over from toon to toon, like a torch.
It is in a nice .7 system, just floating
So, yea, I am a great proponent of killing off cans that are not active over an externded period of time.

Edited by: Mark A on 08/03/2006 00:53:09 There are a huge amount of abandoned ships also. Try scanning as you warp across pretty much any system and see how many noob ships, shuttles and even haulers you pick up. I frequently see 20 in a single warp. I'm sure the vast majority are abandoned forever.
There should be some sort of expiration, even if it's very long, as anything you can add to but not take away from (ie EVE space junk) will just continue to grow ad infinitum...

Here Here !!! Clean out the seure cans.
Also ..while you are at it could destroy all those abandoned shuttles and n00b ships left hanging around outside stations, roid fields and planets ?
Perhaps all ships abandoned eventally end up orbiting a planet or moon in some god-forsaken system in the middle of nowhere ? I read a story very similair to this as a young nipper.

Are you named after Robert Openheimer?
Anyway, you just gave me a great idea! how about all abandoned junk, anything that is not active/use for over, erhm... 3 months, will drift together to a first planet in the system.
Example: every 4 months during DT, some kind of progaram will run, make it extended DT, that will take X number of systems, scan them, and relocates the varios junk to the 1st planet. To cut down the DT, the program runs on limited number of systems, in 12 months period covering entire universe.
5,000 systems /by 12 = 416.66 416.66 x 4 = 1,666.66 Systems Scaned and cleaned every 4 months. (I rounded up the numbers).

Do secure cans contribute to system lag?
Even if it doesn't I'm all for either:
1) Cans spontaneously combusting after 1-3 months, 2) The locking mechanism failing after 3 months, can is open to all! This will give way to a new 'Expiry Cargo Scavenger' subclass.

Edited by: Hatchplug on 08/03/2006 02:52:57 I am in favour of cans unanchoring after a certain number of months of not being accessed. I can't see how this will hurt anyone. If you have not touched your ammo cache in 3-4 months, do you really need it? Besides, it would allow a scavenger career path.

Edited by: Juki Lee on 08/03/2006 03:51:18 New module:
Security Slicer
Using sophisticated slicing algorithms and an adaptable AI-driven hyperhueristic decryption matrix, this module can eventually decrypt and unlock an abandoned secure container who's security system has degraded.
Powergrid usage: 3 MW Cpu usage: 48 tf Mass: 1500 kg Volume: 5 m3 Activation Cost: 10 energy Activation time / duration: 2700 seconds Tech Level: 1 Base price: 2,000,000 ISK
Primary Skill Requirement:
Hacking V -Science V
Secondary Skill Requirements:
Electronics Upgrades V -Electronics II -Engineering II
Could be duration based (45 minutes, as above) or chance based as ECM jamming is. Could be made to only work on secure containers which have had no activity in the last 3 months. Success would remove the password lock and change the ownership to the user of this module, and would criminally flag the user to the can's old owner. An evemail message might also alert the owner of this action.
The rationalization is that after 3 months spent floating in space, such a complex and unbreakable security system might have developed glitches due to ambient radiation or been the subject of micrometeorite impacts. The slicer is designed to find these flaws in an otherwise un*****able security system and exploit them, eventually opening the container.
Alternatly, you could just make some kind of cutting torch to open the can. : )

I say time for a Can Overhaul.
1. All cans resized, with several new cans added. bump all current cans up a bit in holding space, and create new cans, stopping at least at 27,500(jet cans sized). Maybe bigger, that are assembled when launched.
2. With the new, bigger cans, limitntha amount of cans deployable by anchoring skill. Like 3 cans per level.
3. all cans take structure every downtime. 3% of their max HP. So if you don't go to your can to repair it, it's destroyed after 33 days (bout a month).

I'm all for getting rid of the Gehi spiral or whatever, but we have cans in many 0.0 regions that we haven't used for over a year. BUT, we do intend to use them again.

That said I like the idea of getting rid of any cans that the owner of has not logged in for 6 months.
Some of the can swarms outside stations are a real pain.
Though the one that spells the word "ICE" must have taken ages to do and I admire the effort that went into placing so many cans in precise formation.

What's that for? You can simply drop them off at station, just not get past gates.
If a can isn't accessed for 3 months it should go offline and can be scooped by anyone interested.
As for the people having their cans for years in 0.0, just put them in very good safespots then.

For selling purposes.
1. You cannot sell contraband items in stations 2. You cannot sell contraband items in escrow 3. You cannot trade without being present
..
but you can sell the location of the secure container with password in escrow.

Edited by: Wild Rho on 08/03/2006 13:55:40 Just put a simple decyay on cans in space.
Every DT cans, drones and ships loose a certain % of their total hull and need to be repaired (we need remote hull reps in the game too). Ones that drop below zero hull implode and thus are gone. Anchored cans decay much more slowly than unachored ones.
(Note: this does not apply to players logged out in space or ships within a POS field for obvious reasons).
Ships and cans at SS that are used often can easily be maintained by the players while abandoned ones will eventually impode and this clear some of the garbage from the system without the devs/gms having to step in directly.

I'm gonna be insensitive here:
1) Thats the real world, this is a game.
2) Can they not afford a gravestone? Or whatever memorial that equates to their lifestyle (no a secure can in a game is not a memorial, its stupid)

this should not be a problem ccp deal's with they should give us the tools to do it ar self's, just give us some skills or mod to allow can theft, and whatch as a new profession starts up in eve.
Should take say 10 to 15 mins to steel a can time comes down with skills. after all its can in space even if its looked whats to stop some one moving it?
or taking it away in an indy and braking the code later on.
Player made problem player solution as has all ways been ccp's way. ----------------------------------------------

Erhm... have you EVER Shot or in any other way tried to exert a hostie action on a Secure Can in .5 or above? If not, please try, just dont use your Fleet issue Tempest to do it. The result? (Hint), it involves allot of croses everywhere, with things materialising and shooting at you, and your ship going poof.
Anyway, there is no way around it, unless CCP allows one to blow up a can/steal a can that is not being used. Either do that, after 3 months cans become un-anchored and can be scooped up, or do a drastic sweep & destruction of ALL secure cans around: Gates, Stations, Belts.

The locking mechanism should just fail after 3 months, then cans in stations would be fine, but ones in space would get robbed up in seconds. Perhaps they should get flagged as war targets too...
Later on i'm going to write C+NT in huge letters with secure cans in the newbie starting area, for ****s and giggles.

You know how many of those cans are from NPC Member people? Good Lord! Even if only 10% of all the cans are from the Player Corps who dont use them - it would take obsene ammount of time and not worth the effort of War Dec. every single blinking corp. that owns a can and doesent even know it exists anymore!
Anyway, thats just plain silly.
