I keep losing my Swtor one xD I wish I never got it xD Not a fan of these options... I perfer just a Awesomely Long Password with Messed up Characters ^_^ Until a key logger gets installed without your knowledge.
I used the mobile authenticator on my phone. I never lose my phone so it's win win. If something ever did happen to my phone and it has, stolen. All I have to do is just call the company's support line and verify my account to have it removed. I still have it all set up on my WoW account even though I don't play just in case. Stick around. I'm full of bad ideas. ~Isaac Clarke *Bait* with your altGäó *Bacon* with your mainGäó |

Not strictly true. Many ways to get Keylogged with out your knowledge. These people are ingenious in their methods, and as soon as you educate yourself with their latest methods, its likely that they will have new methods.
The only way to guarentee complete safety from harmful is to disconnect your internet connection, remove all wireless devices and never insert a CD/DVD/Bluray, USB drive or any other data storage device. However doing this would render your PC virtually useless.
Therefore the only way to reduce your risk is to employ as many layers of security as you can. CCP are behind the time wih the level of security options they offer their customers. It directly hurts CCP too. They could get a deal with real secure or better still ask one of their dev to spend time creating an authentictor. This would be much cheaper than dealing with the countless "My account got hacked issues"
Further it makes it much harder for bad guys to hack you detering more RMT.

The authenticator is very nice indeed, especially the app-version. Nowadays about 90% or more players of EVE have a smartphone, so why not use this to improve the security?
Another good security enhancement in my opinion is checking from what country/IP-address someone is trying to log-in from. If it's different compared to previous log-ins, ask the user some kind of security question. For instance let them name one of the character(s) from that specific account.
Just like "Light dat Cyno" said: The more options we have, the more secure EVE will be.

Check the message source. Emails can appear to be from a legitimate source but checking the message source will always reveal the originating email address. The guy who was sitting next to me in the first nullsec round table who had obviously not had a shower since before boarding his flight to Iceland, you really stank. You know who you are. |

The problem I see here is this. People that are stupid enough to fall for those tricks lack the common sense that is required to stumble upon this thread.

What if this a phishing attempt to get me to go the site you want, how can we be sure, omg how can we be sure of anything? Maybe all of eve is a phishing attempt to hack my life, my god, it already my succeeded, my current state is only an empty shell of what it once was. EVE has "phished" my life away.
Also thank you CCP Nova for teaching us a cool word, where I can pretend in front of friends that I know stuff about computers and the connectivity. Alright you got me I don't have any, it is all of EVE's fault btw.
And I know I am rambling and way off topic, but why isn't it just called "fishing'??? |

RIFT has it, and its working nicely. Simple code generator that is required to be run by your iPhone while logging in, or be connected via iTunes to send a code to PC.
Can it be done? I know I would never ever be hacked into again (lol to statement...)
Mobile phone verification... you'd need a system set up for every country that has players in EVE, or it rapidly gets prohibitively expensive. And mobile phones and smartphones are inherently insecure. They get accessed without authorization fairly easily and more often than people think (e.g. http://www.h-online.com/security/news/item/Back-door-exploit-for-Android-phones-1131858.html).
I vastly prefer a system that uses a combination of player verified IP addresses that can be played from and verified machine IDs. Member of <Fated> since 2003 fated.europefreeforum.com |

Funny how my notoriously conservative Banks like Deutsche bank and Hypo Bank and Intessa bank give me option to manipulate my private and company accounts via iPhone?
Please don't talk about things you dont know.
Apple app store has one option, the other goes with google android shop. All apps would require CCP to start their end of coding for variable keys and i can be started to work instantly. Apps are relatively simple to make (or source).
As I said, RIFT had it going easyly, so can CCP who employs some of the best.
I wish they would just do it since phishing and such activities are on the rise... |

GM Nova wrote:Dear Players Players are increasingly receiving phishing emails from hackers who pretend to be EVE Online Customer Service. A common notice would be that your character is about to be transferred or that you are receiving PLEXs you supposedly purchased. Players are then asked to follow a link to confirm or cancel the "services." The link is a tinyURL named to make it appear you are accessing CCPs website, but takes you elsewhere. This method of phishing uses a form of technical deception designed to make a link in the e-mail (and the spoofed website it leads to) appear to belong to CCP, when in fact it does not. It is very important that you are aware of this and that you contact Customer Support whenever you receive suspicious emails that you do not anticipate. Do not follow any links, simply access our website and create a petition from there or send us an email to [email protected]. If you receive what you believe to be a phishing email please forward the mail to [email protected]. That way we can deal with the matter in order to prevent others from falling victim to this scam. If you register to any corp or alliance forums or any other game related website, I suggest you use a different email that you use to for your EVE account. Hackers have been hacking into corp/alliance forums, retrieving a list of the registered users email addresses and sending members these phishing emails. Please be conscious about security and that there are those out there that covet your "Stuff." Yours truly, GM Nova
how are they getting our e-mail addresses?
