completely ******* tired of losing ships in these so called "Ghost sites" that explode after a set amount of time, or failed hacking attempt.
they should rename these ******* sites to GHOST SITE not a ******* combat site... so far i have lost 2 asteros to this bullshit... thats 100M a pop... im about ready to ******* quit this game because of this message from a gm.

To clarify, these 'Ghost sites' were introduced to EVE Online in the Rubicon expansion on the 19th of November 2013. Therefore some confusion regarding this new mechanic may be understandable, you stated that you have been doing 'these sites for days' and that failing a hacking game in them has not resulted in an explosion. Could you clarify if the sites you're referring to have been Covert Research Facilities, or other relic sites? There has been no recent change to the normal relic sites, they continue to operate normally without causing harm to your vessel should a hacking attempt result in a failure.
After having investigated your support ticket we can see that you had entered a Lesser Angel Covert Research Facility, also known as a 'Ghost Site'. There you activated your analyzer on a Secure Lab, however the hacking attempt appears to have failed. Therefore leading to the immediate destruction of the site with a damage impact on your ship. This is in line with the current game play mechanics. Introduction of these sites has been featured in dev blogs and in our latest cinematic game trailer.

We recommend that all due caution be taken when entering Covert Research Facilities, or ghost sites, as they do pose a significant threat and a single misplaced step may result in the destruction of your ship. In this game, ships are supposed to explode. Would honestly have been better if PVE was generally more likely to make your ship explode.

Then don't do them. jesus I've never even seen one. You actually have to go looking for them. Use a cruiser or something else that has a higher absolute hitpoint number given that explosions are probably absolute in hitpoint amounts and stop using faction stuff if you can't afford to lose it.

So you ignored the trailers and also didn't try a cautious approach to new pve content (overtank if you don't know what you are getting into, fly a ship that you can afford to lose) and now come here with watery eyes. Why, after being blown up the first time, you didn't realize that maybe you need to be more cautious or try a different approach?
Posting GM correspondence is, i think, not allowed by the way.

let me get this straight, you lost a 100m astero in a ghost site, so you decided to buy another one for 100m and lose it in a second ghost site???
Astero's are not good for ghost sites. You need something with some tank.

I understand your feelings about the Ghost Site. I feel the same way about a lot of the changes recently made to exploration, especially the hacking sites. I detest the mini 'click fest' hacking game and definitely hate the 'Loot Spew' afterwards.
I love exploration and I use to always run the hacking sites but due to CCP changing those sites I now just ignore them. The same goes for the new 'Ghost Sites' recently added, just ignore them. I don't like having Gravimetric (Ore) Sites removed from Cosmic Signatures and added to Cosmic Anomalies. In fact, I also don't like having Ice Fields moved to Cosmic Anomalies. Ice Fields should have been moved to Cosmic Signatures.
Since we're on this subject, I also don't like the automatic recall of Scan Probes or the fact that the Sensor Scan Sweep shows all available sites without even launching a Scan Probe.
Yeah, I still do exploration but now I just bypass those sites. In my opinion those sites aren't worth the time to run them.

The Astero is a great little ship for all the sites except ghost sites, it simply doesnt have a tank for the explosion, You might survive a high one but going lower then that and the explosions will do more damage.
If exploration is your passion and you want to do all the sites in one ship, buy either a strategic cruiser and switch to tank with mobile depot or go for the stratios.
You might also want to do some research before jumping into something unknown. The first i did in a legion with 90% omni tank, went half shields the second i did in a buffer tank omen en went half armor. Guessing the damage is pretty random to.

Yeah bro don't give up just get a tankier ship or equip a cargo scanner and see if the any of the hacking containers are worth going for, definitely saves the grief.
Also I'm not sure you're allowed to post GM responses on the forums so I would edit that out just incase. |

You took Astero's into Ghost sites? Kinda silly, dontcha think? There have been numerous threads about the damage to expect, and if you failed to tank that amount conservatively you really can't get pi$$ed at CCP for that. Of the sites I've bothered with I use a Gnosis or low-sec fit Loki for them, and never have a single issue.
If you're not ready knowing full well what happens (considering all of the community talk about them), it's YOU that's failing, not CCP or the devs.

Ok, first off, the E-UNI forums have some great threads chock full of info on Ghost Sites.
TLDR.
Null sec sites are the most dangerous and the cans do the most damage. Hi sec sites the least dangerous.
The cans do a massive Area Of Effect explosive damage within 10 km. YES THIS MEANS YOU CAN GET PODDED.
The cans detonate if you flub a hack OR THE TIMER RUNS OUT. So if you flub a hack and you are in a frig you probably lost the frig.....if the timer ends shortly after that you probably lost your pod.
The rats, AFAIK, do AT BEST around 300 dps thermal for about 30 seconds. Less in low or hi sec.
It is possible to do these sites in a frig if you are fast and lucky.
The timer does not start until you warp in. If you are cloaked up (covops) the timer does not start until u decloak.
Note that if SOMEBODY ELSE warps in uncloaked the timer just started. And the new sport in hisec seems to be intentionally blowing up the cans using a cheap ship (Velator, etc) to try and pop anybody trying to actually run the site.
If you can get your shield explosive resist over 97% you can survive the explosions in a frigate. Surviving the rats is another thing altogether.
The rats will point and web you.
The loot is worth the risk. Even the hisec sites average around 30 mill in loot for all 4 cans.
THE LOOT IS WORTH THE RISK.
Best ships to use seems to be ships with inherent shield tank bonuses (which means most Caldari).
Everything in EVE is a trap.
And if it isn't, it's your job to make it a trap...:)
