I find it highly ironic that you, an American (I assume) are talking about another country throwing people in jail and torturing them.

Currently, I see little difference between America and China in terms of rights compared to what existed decades ago. China is more restrictive, but moving towards less restrictions, and America is less restrictive, while moving towards more restrictions.

In other words, in 20 years, China will be effectively free, and America will be a fasicst police state, at the rate things are currently going. Its times like these that make me ashamed to live here.

BOTH of my parents were China experts, so I basically spent the first 18 years of my life learning about Chinese policy. And considering that for nearly 2 years they ran a Chinese Wikipedia, and they are currently considering loosening or even shutting down the firewall, it is extremely ignorant to look at China like you have. Maybe 30 years ago, during the Cultural Revolution, you would have been considerably more accurate.

Now cut the political crap.
