Just finished this mission using a Cyclone BC, and I've got to admit it's the only lvl 3 I've struggled with in a BC.
Respawns like crazy, and lives up to it's name as the attacks are MASSIVE!!!
I was back and forth to my station for ammo and repairs several times, and the only thing that made it completable was that I could set BMs inside each section of the mission.
Anyone else had the same problem with this mission?

Yes, the first time I did it with a corpmate, he ctd'd on the 3rd level with all the frigs and cruisers and my brutix was peeled like a overripe banana. :( We ended up having to get a bs to help us.
My skills still need much improving, but that mission was the first time I'd lost my brutix doing a lvl3 and I never had that problem on the others. I think this mission is too hard, even Portal to War didn't rip me up that fast. It's a mission I'm declining from now on.

yeah... did both, portal of war and massive attack in bc - cyclone fitted with t2 only got thru them without warping, but i think they are a bit too much for lvl3 and no... i wasnt using wrong setup =] -- chasing brain in warp -- |

I did it in a Sacrilege just now and found their attempts to break my tank pitiful. Even the sentry gun tier only peeled a fifth of my armour before it was repaired. I had a friend along in a Thorax, he sped things up a bit when he showed up, but it was obvious from the start that I could tank the lot. In my opinion Portal to War 2/5 is a tougher mission both in terms of enemy tanks and damage output. Though it still takes me half an hour.

Tanking against thermal in my Brut, I had an easier time with Massive Attack than most of the toughest level 3's.
I can see where a shield tanker would have a hard time, though. Some of the EM damage you can take is, well, massive...

I'm a shield tanker, no problems here.
Cerberus with 2 large extenders and an EM hardener + small shield booster = no problems.
I wub my cerberus... ---------------

I completed massive attack solo with a brutix, just a lrg SB2+amp to rep dmg. I had 0 EM and 20 therm resistance, finished the mission with 99% armor.

Well, I just lost a Ferox to this mission.
Biggest problem I had with this (apart from dying) seemed to be some issue with the gates between sections... corp mate couldn't get through fast enough... i.e. we're talking several minutes.... he was 300m away and it said he was too far away or some such nonsense!
Oh, well, we live and learn... I'll be back to this.... with more than 11000 shield!
Bloody EM damage!

Hi,
If this is supposed to be easy with Ferox then give me a hint about the configuration.
I have been trying this few times with Ferox equipped with 5 heavy launchers, 2 med. nosferatu, 2 x named med shield boosters, 2 x invulnearibility shield, low slots are for cap recharge upgrades, ballistic control and one WCS (learned to use WCS after I lost one Ferox to horde of rats with scrambler some where once...)
I can keep my shield tank up for some time, but I feel like I'm doing too little damage all the time.
Thanks already for hints. city4dev.city.fi/kuvagalleria/kuvat/54/53/92/545392.jpg[/IMG]

Well i did this level in a Vexor. I had to warp out of section two and three once, but the fact its not deadspace means you can use BM's to circumnavigate the earlyer gates.
The section with the overseer in was a laugh. Killed the overseer, wiped out the turrets then sat there tanking the swarmers while my drones killed the constantly spawning little buggas. Lotsa cash
The key is just a good EM/Thermal tank. With shields you want to forget the invunerablity fields ang go full EM/Therm ________________ What you do is you store up the rage, let it fester while you gain strength, then use it to gank those weaker than you... and so the circle of life is complete |

Ok, thanks for the tips. I will switch to EM and thermal tanking. I'll let you know how it goes - by the way... Any specific missiles I should use?

Done this a few times now in my Ferox, without breaking 60% shields.
Highs: 5x XR-3200 Heavies shooting Widowmakers. 2x Prototype 125mm shooting mostly antimatter.
Meds: 3xLarge Shield Extender II 1xNamed EM Shield Hardener 1xNamed Thermal Hardener
Lows: 1x Type-D PDU 2X Type-D SPR 1x BCU II
4x Hobgoblin Drones
Got 576k SP in Engineering and 1,2 mill in missiles. 11900 Shield HP and 61 shield/second recharge at 33%. This thing can tank all level 3s without breaking a sweat, including Downing the Slavers 2/2, as long as you fit proper hardeners for the job.
On a long enough timeline, the survival rate for everyone drops to zero. |

Yeah, did this no problem in a Brutix last night. Like others have said, EM/THERM tank and you are all set. It was very easy w/
1 Repper, 2 Em & 2 Therm hardeners in the lows.
Just don't get scared when your shields drop in seconds w/ all the EM damage =).

Solomon's setup ^ is good, but use EM damage. I just did this mission for the first time last night and didn't even get past 60% shields. Take out the Missile Batteries first, then the big boys. Drones are you best friend against frigs.
I don't even bother with NOS, I pack 2 tractor beams to loot cans while I spank arse :).
A Ferox is meant to passive tank. 3 Large Shield Extender II's + 2 rat specific hardeners is all you need.

Also, the mission is not deadspace. So if you can be bothered taking the hassle, you can shuttle in and make a bookmark, then warp into the pockets at 100km range and snipe everything one by one.

Well, first of all... what are you doing active tanking in a Ferox? The Ferox is built to passive tank... 3x t2 shield extenders, 1x invuln field, 1x specific hardener, 2x SPR, 2x BCU (or a 3rd SPR and just 1 BCU if you really need it). I've done that mission several times with my Ferox and never found it difficult at all. The acceleration gates in it do seem broken though; took a while to get them to work, had to try them from different sides.

It seems more intimidating that it looks, but I didn't have a problem finishing it in my Ferox (passive tank). You don't need an AB so that frees up a mid slot for anything else you might want to put there. I think Once I got to the end I got into a rythmn and drones/lights were on the frigates, heavies and rails were on the sentries and overseer.
I stayed long after the overseer was popped, until I ran out of ammo. I'd imagine someone with a good armor tank setup and laser could just sit and pop frigates and sentries all day making a nice chunk of change with little to no cost at all.
Not recommended for someone without a decent skill set in engineering/shields(if that's your tank) but doable.

Nice mission, for last pocket, with Overser, i make little macro for targeting and killing swarmers with my scout drones :) I stop it after one hour ...hehe, looks like this little beasts spawn in unlimited numbers. Passive Ferrox can tank it easy.
But dont take this mission on 4 level, 2nd pocket with centry guns is deadly if you have little lag.

Also, I went through the trouble of getting the tag needed to go to the "Overseer's Stash", when I got there and I destroyed the bunker called "Overseer's Stash" it dropped no loot. So no need to bother getting the tags and trying your luck with it. :)
(60 jumps to get the damn tag, heh, 30 to, and 30 back. )
I can only imagine the money farm you can set up there with a couple of large smartbombs.

I just got this mission today, first stage pretty quick.
I was like oh, that was easy.. onto the next stage.. Now in the second stage I was agianst all but 5 or 6 cruisers at the other side, they ate through my 30% amp + large Dg booster 2x t2-em 2x t2-therm pretty fast, might've been the useless 3x t2bcu's in the bottom of my raven or my crap drone skills but either way i had to run home with my tail between my legs, came back with lows full of pdu2's just incase and got through it really fast.
then the last stage.. it was laughably easy and I just sat there with my drones going around chasing every spawn. was pretty funny actually.

The problem I have with this is that I cannot access the last gate. It tells me I need a silver tag but non of the spawns drop one.

Edited by: Mike Yagon on 17/03/2006 18:48:31 You don't have to go there though. You only need to kill the overseer.
*edit* Just for kicks I spend 60 jumps (30 jumps to and 30 back) to get the tag needed to activate the gate. When I got there and I broke the stash no loot dropped. So that was an hour of jumping wasted.

Edited by: Bodestone on 17/03/2006 20:20:31 Hmm, killed all spawns several times round and no overseer. Well all spawns in the areas we could reach, which was up to the area with 2 gates, one back to the turrets and one which was inaccessible

Same, killed overseer, fetched silver tag - went to bonus, destroyed his stash and no loot drop. That's just plain wrong -----------------------

Did it in my Brutix and less than 3mil skillpoints, but I needed help on the last stage to deal with the respawning sentry guns and the overseer (not enough damage output). I did fill the lowslots with 2xEM 2xThermal active hardeners and a T2 Medium ARU. It's worth bringing small drones for the third stage as there are lots of tough nasty frigates.
