Hi's 4 Heavy Neutron or Electrons or Ions.. I am having trouble figuring this out :( 1 Med nos ? good choice?
Med's MWD 7.5k scramb Web
Low Med armor repairer 2 nano energized plats (All resists) 1 Exp Hardner? And a Magnetic Field stabilizers for DMG
Advice, suggestions would be nice and appreciative. I also heard that 5 valkrie drones are good for the job as drones go.

You're off to a fine start for a thorax. It's quite effective at killing pirates, so I should think it would do just fine in the piracy role as well.
Something you may want to consider is that if you fit heavy electrons, you can also fit an 800 plate (very much skill dependant) along with the rest of the "standard" thorax kit.

Tbh, I prefer the gank-a-rax which is: 4x Heavy Neutrons II (or modal in the case of t1)
10mn AB II, x5 prototype webber, 20km warp disruptor
1x Medium Armor Repairer II 3x Magnetic Field Stabiliser II's and 1x RCU
You do need advanced weapon upgrades 4 to fit this though. -------------------------------------
Murder murder!!!! Kill them all! (I like the happy place)

i normaly use
5 ion (might have to mix ions and electron as i have max fitting skills) mwd web scram med rep, adaptive nano, 2 mag stab and a 400 plate
risky as the tank sucks but thats half the fun, 300 odd dps with t1 gear + drones
using all electrons should let you fit an 800 plate so you live a bit longer and you will hardly lose any damage

When I'm flying a rax (my favourite cruiser) I fit as:
4 Ion Blasters, 1 Med Nos MWD, 7.5k scram, Web 800 plate, explosuve hardener, kinetic and thermic membrane, medium rep
You get plenty of armour and strong resistances across the board. Its the perfect 'other cruiser killer'. And its damn effective against webbed AF's too.
You can take out poorly fitted battleships without a problem, which you probably encounter a lot of when pirating (unfortunately I only encounter well fitted ones :p)

Question:
Do heavy blasters have enough tracking speed to hit webbed (assault)frigs / interceptors?

Depends on the crusier and his setup. To kill a blaster rax, prolly not. -- Rells

Highs: 5x Heavy electron blaster II's Null ammo Mids: 10mn MWD, Web, 20 Warp disrupter Lows: 2 Magstabs, MedAR II, ,400/800 plate(cant remember), PDU Drones: 5x Valkyrie II's
Absolutely awesome damage output and with advanced weapons upgrades lvl 4 i believe you could swap out the PDU for another dmg mod/cap relay/hardeners other fitting requirements permiting ofcourse.

Yes, but that's really not what they're for. If you're looking to make an anti-frig 'rax, you're better off using a 1600mm plate and some small rails. Though, in a cruiser that has the capacity to take on battleships (particularly an npc-fitted battleship, which is what a pirate would be looking for) you want to catch the "bigger fish" and go with heavy blasters instead.

Yes...but use the thorax bonus, do more damage. Go with heavy blasters. Ever since RMR, the only reason to not fit medium turrets on the thorax is if you're trying to kill frigates.

You mean light ions or heavy ions? It doesn't look like it fits with heavy ions but can't check in-game atm.

It doesn't. Not even with adv weapon upgrades 5. I can only assume he means lights.

hmmm well I've only been going for 5 weeks so I amnot as knowledgeable as you lot... my cruiser:
H: x3 250mm Prototype Gauss, x2 150mm Prototype Gauss M: MWD, Scrambler, Webber L: 800mm plate, Small Armour Repairer II, Magnetic field stab, Tracking Enhancer, Nano plating thingy.
Guess I need to do some rethinking... I thought Rails were the way to go.

... + something else in the last low slot works, even with Advanced Weapons Upgrades 4. The 800 plate he mentioned doesn't fit. ---------- Please fix the scan probes!!! (also included a guide how to use them) |

Try
5 x Heavy Electron Blaster T2 MWD (Named), 20Km Scramblerm, Webber 800mm Plate, 2 x Energised Nano's T2, CPR, Med Rep T2 5 x Medium ECM Drones
Lots of cap and fun to fly, breaking the enemies lock is quite fun too.

the thorax is my favourite pirating ship
It's so uber it's untrue. you just gotta know theÖ setup.
But really, tbh it is a bit of a solo pwnmobile and is easily capable of taking on BCs and so rocks.. --------------------------------------------

i would recommend 4 t2 small neutron blasters, 1 nos, 10mn mwd, webber, scrambler, and a armor tnak. that usually is the setup that i use when soloing in my rax

Would using rails at range work with the drones? Or is it the tracking that is the issue?

Or a ship with a scram/web and a jammer.
I encourage everyone to fly a thorax, it's a very useful ship.
Plus if everyone flies one, then I know to fit more Gallente jammers.

I had a thorax attack me once in a lowsec belt when I was checking out a Ferrox setup on rats to fine tune my optimals. Too bad for him I was sporting a full PvP rig designed to kill crusiers and intys.
A thorax will only work against someone set up for NPCing. Against a pvper its a rather weak ship. -- Rells

Ah, and Rells... Are you dumb or something? You take pride in destroying a cruiser in a battlecruiser? That's like saying "Yeah, an Ibis is only good against NPC setup, against a PVPer in a Battleship it can't do squat".
To be entirely fair, a thorax is ideally suited precisely for killing battlecruisers. So well done to Rell, whatever the circumstances were.
But that broad-brushed "thorax is no good against a pvp-er" sentiment is flat wrong. I do hope you're not teaching your students that.
