Originally by: Nxii Edited by: Nxii on 03/04/2006 19:56:54 I'd like to say that I've experienced the same issue as has been discussed to death on these boards.
I did everything from updating drivers, installing hotfixes to sacrificing a chicken; nothing worked.
EXCEPT one thing:
Adding the /onecpu option to the C:\boot.ini file on the line that has
"multi(0)disk(0) ...."
So that it looks like this (for example):
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn /onecpu
Completely, 100% fixed my problem (at the expense of 1/2 my CPU horsepower, of course ).
ok, been at this problem a while, i have the kn8 abit sli amd dual core cpu that most others here have and ive tried most everything from newer drivers, to a total dump of eve and im at my wits end.
setting afinity to 1 core dosnt work, running in windowed mode seems to clear up the dock, undock crash however now sometimes ill jump and nothing is around me, no gate, not even my own ship, i cant do anything....my last option is to revert to the 77.77 drivers as suggested (ive done the 83.91 (original disk), 84.21, 84.25, the new 91.xx series and no joy...so 2 questions:
1. how the hell do i get rid of the nforce active armour/firewall crap? i have it disabled but i want to get rid of it entirely. ill use a seperate nic card if i have to but i want the software gone.
2. how exactly does 1 edit the boot.ini? and is that fix for multipule processors or is that with this dual core processor?
thank you everyone for the top notch work too...very constructive posts
EDIT update since running in windows mode i havnt had a single disconnect when undocking, however after about 30 minutes to an hour eve becomes unresponsive and eventually looses connection...i can reconnect right away and the same thing happens 30-60 minutes later...once i had a horrible lag spike where i actually warped backwards, to and from a station...any ideas?

Running in windowed mode is the ****! I haven't had a crash in over a week since i started running windowed mode. I wilsh CCP support included "try window mode" in the crash-to-desktop solutions.
Futher down i bet it's EVE/DX/Nvidia problem (for me) and the solution might be driver issue, but as long as windowed mode works, i really don't care anymore.

Hi all,
As you can tell from when I started this thread, I have been crashing to desktop daily for a long time.
I have now been playing CRASH FREE for 2 weeks. The Crash to Desktop was fixed by one or some combination of the following. I will be turning back these ôfixesö one at a time to find the real culprit once I stop having too much fun playing eve :-]
1) Anti Virus and Anti Spyware background operations were turned off. 2) Audigy 2Æs Firewire and game port were disabled. 3) Play EVE with no sound. 4) Dual core affinity set to one processor = CPU 0. (this will also stop EVE from an increasing onscreen "studdering" that creeps in over time). 5) Play in window mode, NOT full screen.
Hope it works for you û good luck and fly safe.

QFT (and a bump)
It's ridiculous to *have* to play windowed, but it's better than a ctd every 4 or 5 jumps or opening the map or undocking.

Both dual-core and multiple CPU.
Start menu: run: "notepad c:\boot.ini"
And just as a followup: after months of playing in monoCPU mode in eve, I decided to try getting things to run without resorting to disabling one of my cpus.
I went through the whole-shebang; updated everything and still Eve locks up when undocking.
As many have said, running in windows-mode REDUCED the number of lockups, but not elimated.
So far, still, the only way for me to play Eve completely crash free is with the above /onecpu hack.
Sad.

I newly got a dual-core AMD and began seeing CTD as others have as well.
I've got Forceware 91.47 and I'm seeing the crash. Has anyone heard of progress made on this issue by the developers? Or a workaround that's worked for them other than disabling a CPU or reverting to 77.77?

I have very similar specs as everyone in here (amd x2, 7800gtx, 2gig mem, audigy, etc) and I am constantly crashing. I would like to know if its a client issue or driver issue so I dont have to fix one thing then 'refix' it if CCP patches their code.

I'm having the same dual CPU problem. CCP is giving me the same old check your drivers song and dance (which didn't work) I even told them about this thread and how alot of people are having this same problem.
Only the onecpu hack is working for me as well. Really sucks because I built a new computer just for this game now I have to castrate it just to play.
Specs...
Shuttle SN27P2 64X2 Dual Core AMD Athlon 4200+ CORSAIR XMS2 2GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) eVGA Geforce 7900GT 256MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card
All drivers current.

Dell Inspiron 9400, dual core, crashing to Windows when jumping, happens every few hours. Not fun. Subscribed after trial since I had a blast and the game looks fabulous, but will cancel after a month if this is not fixed. Only due to good luck this problem didn't kill me already.
