@ Plastic Psycho & Logical 101....
You two should really try reading better. I would love for someone to poke some holes here... as of yet all they have done is flung poop and site web sources that say that a new particle has been found that is "Higgs like" but we are not clear if it is actually a part of some higgs field.
Poke away. Go! Dazzle me... son

You're equating things that look similar but work under fundamentally different principles. These similarities you see in light patterns with cymatic waveforms are illusory and nothing more. The shapes in cymatic waveforms are not physical shapes, they are illusions in the way we perceive matter, similar to a rainbow. Not all observers see a rainbow, and not all observers will see a hexagon at Saturn's poles.
I have to agree with the others here. I don't see any basis for your skepticism of the Higgs field. I've done some research into your points and I think you are mistaken about what is being said by the scientists. What they are finding is solid and tangible experimental data with which they are answering questions in science. I see nothing unscientific in their processes. Ignoring the Cymatic stuff for a moment... how? How is it solid and tangible?
How can a particle made of normal fermions, having a positive charge... do or be a part of what they are saying it is a part of, and do what they are saying that it is capable of doing? It is just a particle with a decay rate, a spin and a mass like most everything else they have found at CERN.
How can you or they be confident by any stretch, that this thing is a part of a field that permeates the universe, but applies no force to any non- mass carrying particles (and does everything else they say that it does)? Why does this particle, having a totally normal decay rates, composition, charge and properties... stand out among the rest?

I don't know enough about this science to answer that, but I see nothing strange in the particle not being as they presumed it to be. Many scientists were worried it would turn out to be exactly what was estimated, and would effectively make particle physics have an "end" to the understanding. I, like many others, believed it would almost certainly surprise us. In every major scientific discovery there has always been something unexpected. Not just most of them, ALL of them. These unexpected things help explain why we didn't previously have all the answers to our questions.
They are finding a particle which they have reasons to justify it being a Higgs particle. It also has traits that they previously thought a Higgs particle couldn't have or shouldn't have, and this raises more questions. This is science and it is normal. If you don't know enough about something to pose a legitimate counter argument, how do you even know that you understand it well enough to be confident in, and justify, your own personal distaste for a new theory? Guess what my friend... you cannot.

You're not either, but you're trying very hard to pose as one... on der EVE forums (pewpewpew)... and one smart enough and educated enough to question the efforts of some of the best minds on earth at that.

This environment is very similar to the academic community at large. So my reason for posting this on a pew pew spaceships forum as you put it, appears to be a bit over your head. But not everyone can think outside of the box, that is also a given. SO have fun in yours... I'll be playing in mine
P.S. @ Reaver Glitterstim
Do you think that in it's current incarnation, and at their present level of understanding, that they should have rushed the Nobel Prize?

If you had ever posted on one, you would know that you get one reply every few days because they are not active by any stretch of the word. Here I get threadnaughts of trolls, naysayers, and one or two people smarter then myself all lining up to roll my face in the dirt for thinking something different. And all within a few days.
This is a good thing, because it ultimately prepares you for what is out there much better then the alternatives. Besides, you don't know if I am posting on other forums right now do you? I usually am.

Seriously. What crap for a gaming forum, even if it's OOPE.
If OP is convinced he has all the answers, he should be posting where his professional peers post.
Asking for detailed explanations and outcomes from those at a layman level is just as idiotic as if he were a real doctor, asking for advice on this GAME FORUM.

@ Krixtal Icefluxor : I am happy that I could make your day You know alternatively you can just not read my threads and be just as happy... let alone post in them. Food for thought.
@ Reaver Glitterstim All you can really do is google "Higgs Field " or "Higgs Mechanism". What you get there is pretty much all there is, because the existence of the Higgs effect is entirely theoretical. You can try this link Simple English Wiki which tries to simplify the wording a little.
This Link is an interesting one, which also confirms that CERN was in fact built in order to detect the higgs field (which another poster gave me crap about but there it is in black and white I think it was baltec1 if memory serves.) That entire site is actually pretty cool.
And here is Mr Higgs talking about it.
All of it is pretty cool stuff, but none of it will tell you anything beyond a hypothetical interaction because atm all of it is entirely hypothetical, unprovable and untestable. Anyway have fun, I actually like that second site allot.

Finding the higgs particle is just one job of many that the particle accelerator was built for. CERN itself is much older and is the place where many discoveries were made including the birth of the internet.

Hmmm.... if only I could prove gravity (drops pen) Hmmm.... if only I had a model for how evolution can change a physical form (looks at my dog and googles dog breeds) Hmmm... if only there was something in the universe suggesting the big gang (looks at expansion and redshift)
Well... I guess I have some evidence there. Now show me something suggesting a universal wide field of Higgs particles.

Just to point out, the higgs boson only existed as a particle for a very short time after the big bang, hence the need to use a very powerful particle accelerator. Its the Higgs Field which is the important thing as it is critical to the standard model. Our best minds have been working and running experiments for the last 40 years to find if these exist or not. The work at CERN is simply the latest result from this ongoing experiment.
All three of those things I listed are still just theories. Join Bat Country today and defend the Glorious Socialist Dictatorship |
