The only good Matirx movie was the first one. Everything else was just a rehash of the special effects and the continuation of a storyline. By the end of the third movie EVERYBODY KNOWS what's going to happen.
"OMG, NEO WON!!"
"Yeah, they told you he was going to win back in the first 30 minutes of the first movie. Why are you so surprised? And why is it that the good guy can be surrounded by MILLIONS of bad guys and only have to fight one?"
Hrmm... cheesy movie? Terrible special effects in 2 and 3? Storyline that should've been summed up in the sequal and not drawn out to make more money? Check, check, and check.
I hope V for Vendetta is MUCH better than Matrix 2 and 3! Esspecially 3!

Not really. You have Aliens. Same plots and such troughout the films, but it was/is still a very good series. Star Trek? Star Wars? Lord of the Rings? The Evil Dead series (though those are only good FOR their cheesiness)? Lethal Weapon? The list can go on. Tons of movie series are great, imho, but The Matrix won't be included on that list.
We've sort of stolen the thread though... my bad... =/ --- --- --- ---

Well im a big fan of the graphic novel, even read the original few chapters in warrior magazine...yes im that old. Ive had a copy of the graphic novel for years and is one of my favourites.
And...ive just come back from seeing the movie. Bearing in mind they had to reformat some things, and deal with some other bits with some brevity, i came away shocked.
Shocked good? or shocked bad?
Shocked good, i was startled at what they have done with the source material, for me one of the movies of the year. I felt they handled it with wit, intelligence and great respect. Though i will say one thing, it's one of those films you will have to make your own mind up over. It isnt an 'easy' movie, definently not a popcorn, mind in neutral movie. Its a movie that can have a profound effect on your own beliefs and make you re-examine them.
Anyway, enough babble from me. Go see it, and i hope you enjoy it.

Quite a lot about it in April's Empire magazine, including a short interview with Alan Moore on his relationship with movie makers. According to that, after the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen debacle he insisted his name is removed from any project where he no longer has a say over what's done with his work and the money he would have been paid given to the artists involved in the project instead. I especially liked his comment about V for Vendetta:
Quote: Out of the blue, I got a call from one of the Wachowski brothers. I tried to be as polite as possible and told him I didn't want anything to do with the film. Then a friend of mine asked if I was aware that Joel Silver said I was very excited about the film. Obviously I was less than pleased. I wanted a written apology. That didn't seem to me to be punitive.
No apology's been forthcoming obviously. But it's nice to see an artist standing up for himself for a change rather than rolling over in the face of offers of cash.
The Empire reviews were pretty good. I've heard less good ones from elsewhere. But I'm still planning to go see it - I like to make my own decisions on this kind of thing.

Oh my god that was such a great film!
BOW DOWN TO THE MIGHT OF Stephen Fry!
Hurt and Weaving were also very good and Miss Portman did well from about halfway through.

I'm also an old, old fan of the original V for Vendetta comics and also read them in Warrior when they were first released. I'm a bit of a purist with these things, I dislike the colouring of the comics when they were recently re-released, I preferred the original stark black & white.
I didn't like the film unfortunately, but I am very fussy - don't take that as a suggestion not to see it, if you wanna go see it please do .
I thought it was plodding, crass and the story hasn't survived the test of time very well - in the context of the late 80's/early 90's when it was written it was a lot more effective IMO.
To all of you who liked the film can I recommend you get hold of the comics/graphic novel? They're superb and David Lloyd's drawings give it an atmosphere and gravitas that I thought the film lacked. Also the pacing of the comics is much better and makes the constant flow of obscure literary references feel far less ponderous than in the film.

OMG
I saw this film last night. Absolutely awesome movie.
I have never seen a film that offers such a dark interpretation of a future Britain. The whole Britain taken over by dictator thing is extremely unsettling and thought provoking.
The most amazing plot of any film I have seen in recent years and the trademark Wachowski action in it as well makes this a definite must see. It works on many different levels.
This is the first film to have left a lump in my throat and an uneasy feeling since Schindler's List.
Nope :) -Capsicum |

Spider-Man?
Me, personally, I can't wait to see it. I make it a point to see every instance of Hugo Weaving hamming it up as a larger-than-life character.

Edited by: Arron S on 26/03/2006 04:20:09 I loved the movie! Kick ass made alot of good points and raises questions.
Funny how it shows how easy it is for the goverment to manipulate people. Which has been done over and over threw out history and probably will be repeated in the Future.
I remember reading a quote from a **** party memeber saying how easy it is to manipulate people in any goverment, Dicatatorship or Democracy.

Loved the film as a whole, only problems I have with it are tiny ones.
For example everytime they showed the public looking at the news anouncements they showed the same two houses and a pub. All of the people had blank faces, and for a country that VOTED in a dictator an awful lot of them just said '*******s' to anything they were told.
They hardly struck me as a populous who believed their goverment, and those that didn't as scared. A country that would execute you for eating butter and shoots childred for wearing masks is not exactly going to be flipant about people in public places slagging off their administration.
..and why ban butter and 'decadent' music by not alcohol?
Also, why blow up the Houses of Parliment if you've already killed those incharge? I would have thought it'd be a better idea to blow up the Houses first. Not "oh, well i went to all this time making dynamite out of fertiliser... erm i mean.. 'this country doesn't need a building, it needs an idea'"
Not that he ever told anyone what the idea was. His whole thing was about revenege anyway, saving the country was just a bonus along the way. Anti-hero through and through.
..and wtf was with the vapour trails from the knifes at the end?
I still really liked the movie though... seriously... despite all that.

Quite suprised by the film considering it came out of america...saying that thoughm the english accents by the american actors was apalling, ****ed me off straight away.
Film was nice and chunky all the way up to the last qauter where the film seemed to patter out a bit and the ending was the usual american affair where the guy gets the gal, world becomes a better place and everyone lives happily ever after.

Fear makes people unwilling to be disuaded and word of mouth is the underlying aspect that is written in betwix the lines here. How many people were in the BTN tower how many people saw what happened in there how many people really saw the Baily destroyed, word of mouth is how all great revolutions started, him distributing the masks solidified their beliefs that he was alive and that there was hope. All V had to do to win from the moment he escaped the BTN tower was survive and poke the public at the right time to let him know he was going to live up to his word. All of the true recruitement for the revolution was inadvertantly done by the government, the more they *****ed down the more disbelieving the people got. What the cinematography shows is the truth that V tried to tell,The governments should fear their people, for governments no matter how hard they try will never know what their people think and more importantly will do. In short the end was an inevitable surprise and the fulfilment of a sociological destiny. ----------------------------------------------- Done is done Yes, there will be no taking back Every journey must come to an end All hail to the Gunslinger Beyond our reach, out of control |

I went and saw it yesterday too and really liked it
I am 'politically' minded so I found it really interesting - its more like a political thriller than a usual comic book adaption.
The thought of an England of the future turned into a Daily Mail readers heavan with a Richard Littlejohn type clone giving nightly 'educational' rants is soooooo scary...
I also like the idea of the extension of modern day happenings that bit farther - war in mid east extending, new super viruses killing millions (aka bird flu) and politicians scaring everyone ****less to keep themselves in power.
Whenever I see John Reid (British Minister) making pronouncements - 'Everything is fine in Iraq - there is no war there - soon be sorted - but in the meantime we need to introduce ID cards for evreyone because of the terroroists and illegal immingrants' it will remind me of this movie...
Not as good as Matrix 1 Better than Matrix 2 & 3
Final review: 8/10 --------------------------------- Smiting pirates and terrorists since Sept 2003

Also I do not think the movie was suppoused to be 100% serious, it was quite cartoony at times and had some "symbolic" scenes (the march w/ masks at end for example) Anyone else agree?

Saw it yesterday, don't have much to add to what everyone else has said except I really liked it Hugo Weaving was awesome as V...brought so much to the role, was increadibly enigmatic. Liked the story a lot...and yeah there was a lot of humour in it but I don't think it detracts from it's point. When Stephen Fry's character parodies the leader vs terrorist situation on his tv show it's over the top silly but is making a point to the people watching his show (who laugh)...I think the film does a similar thing in some parts I actually liked the way we (brits) were represented in this...sounds about right to me that we'd all be watching telly, not believing a word we were being told, saying it was *******s then sitting on our arses not doing anything about it __________________________ Indulge Me |

Actually, despite all of my pezamism (i know i screwed that spelling)... V turned out to be an awesome movie. The ending was a bit too much, but other than that the movie rocked.
I like that they never remove his mask! And Hugo was simply fantastic!! I esspecially enjoyed his little introduction to EV. --- --- --- ---
