1: No matter how uber your new Dominix is, and no matter how good your instas are, you are not going to beat that Vagabond to warp to the next gate.
Cost: See 2
2: A Dominix with two LAR and 4 E500 nos can tank said Vagabond, and it can even tank the Marachiel that jumps in in support, if you don't freak out when you see all your shields vanish in one volley and [/b]forget to turn your tank on[/b].
Cost: One Domininx, 500m implants.

Don't fight your way through World Collide mission with a Frig or even a Destroyer. Cost: 1 Rifter, 1 Destroyer, numerous repair bills, loss of ISK for the 1 1/2 days spent on the mission alone.
Smaller one:
Blasting away my autocannons when I'm not even in range. What a waste of bullets.

Buying your first ever battleship (80mil). Buying all the mods (20mil). This is one I just discovered....
1. When departing to 0.0 to rat for a couple of days in your Domi, with no guns so you don't have to worry about ammo, check to see if you have any drones before making the 17 jump trip. (Lots of time, 30mil in ratting profit)
2. It really sucks when the first belt you warp into, in said domi with no offensive capabilities, has a couple of warp scrambling/webbing frigs. (Lots of time to fly 150km from the rats, so they get bored of harrasing you, at 30m/s)
3. Check to see if the route you took, which you now need to head back along to pick up drones, has miraculously spawned a big alliance gate camp since you came through it. (More lost time, no lost Domi though, luckily.) -----------------------

Edited by: Yeggstry on 26/03/2006 20:09:22 Since I started the game nearly two years ago I have learnt the following very important lessons (in no particular order).
1) Do not use space to target a hostile in Yulai (pre RMR) (Cost: One ferox due to targetting the wrong person near a gate with my missile launchers active)
2) Do not go to pick up the stuff you just lost from your Ferox 5 minutes after said incident occurs. (Cost: Another ferox when I forgot about the 20 minute agro timer on concord)
3) Do not use space to move towards an object, right click on the object and select approach. (Cost: One blackbird after 30 ATUK warp straight on top of me 200k away from the POS I was trying to approach)
and recently.....
4) Do not alt-tab away from EVE when transporting goods in 0.0, no matter how safe you may feel. (Cost: One incursus and 90mil worth of skill books for corp courtesy of a BC NPC at a gate)
No matter how hard you try, you still end up making really stupid mistakes, even after you've played the game for ages :/ ___

Some of mine:
The offer for a faction frig BPC costs 90 mill not 9 mill. cost 90 mill
It is not a good idea to go back for your drones after having panic warped out of a .4 belt. cost: uninsured apocolypse and the fittings
Never, ever trust a corpmate who is known to dislike you to "test his weapons". Cost: uninsured Apocolypse and fittings
RIP apocs.

Doing hard level 2 missions in a frigate is not quite as easy as it seems. (Cost: One Merlin and feeling of invincibility in a frig)
Clicking orbit is not a substitute for manually piloting for getting close. (Cost: One Atron and almost losing a Crow - down to struct)
Do not shoot at people with bounties in high sec and then not knowing about the aggression counter. (Cost: One Merlin from Concord, one Kestrel and Shuttle from sentry guns, one Condor from Concord)
Chasing a inty camping the station in a cruiser. (Cost: Lots of time)
Gate-camping in a Kestrel by myself. (Cost: One Kestrel)
Trying to be tank by rushing forward too fast. (Dignity and massive damage to my Raven)

The only stupid story i have to tell is from when i just started playing eve (first time) in 2003. I went with my shiny new thorax into Syndicate to fight some npc rats.
Cap ran out fast and i got away with 3% struct... nobody told me about weapons using cap. Probably had 0 cap skills too, cant remember... =)

"Just because incursus has simular atributes to a ranis doe not mean it has a chance of killing one"
"Yes your ranis does have drones and you should launch em"
"Dont Agree to 1v1 a gistii Crow in a basteranis when u know hes faster"
"Dont fire missiles off at a target just before trying to MWD through a gate"
"Theres always 3 other peeps on the otherside of the gate"
the list goes on

my personal top5, definately not all my mistakes but the ones I remember most.
5. going to 0.0 in a mining fitted tempest with the pvp fit in the hold is not the smartest thing to do. (cost: T2 mining fitting, pvp fit in the hold, clone and implants) 4. warping to gate just after podding someone (cost: 1 stilleto) 3. accidently webbing stargate because your webber was blinking and you wanted to take a look at the gate... (cost: 1 cheetah, cloak was recovered \o/) 2. Just because you're flying a vagabond doesn't mean your invulnerable to a frig pack (cost: 1 vagabond and fitting) 1. dampening your gang mate in low sec so you can try to cloak, forgetting he isn't a corpmate. (cost: 1 cheetah, cloak was ... recovered again )
thing I learned most of all is that my covert ops cloak has a hidden luck attribute or something - phew! dodged the mods on this sig!

Originally by: Ral Ulgur Don't look at the fullsize marketwindow while doing complexes and running eve in a window and the clicking the top right "x" thinking it would close the market window. Cost: Saying what the **** out lound with actually noone being around
My fav :)
Recently:
Go do a complex raid in .5 system with some friends in your freshly equiped, uninsured, cyclone while you're dirt poor. Then once you manage the complex with little trouble DO NOT shoot the cans (that aren't yours) to "help manage the looting effort"
Cost: untold amounts of pride, a Cyclone + fittings, and further self degration by cursing at an inanimate object
Never, NEVER do something in a system > .4 where you have to say "I doubt concord would attack me for doing that".
Cost: 2-3 Rifters, 2 shuttles (took a couple to figure out why my shuttles kept blowing up when I undocked), and a rupture
BTW, is there some sort of guide as to how Concord works? What you can and cannot do? This would save me (and i'm sure everyone else) lots of isk/time/pride.

Don't rush in with a worse fitting after lossing a ferox to a lvl3 silance the infomat mission.
cost 2 ferox plus fittings
One other thing learned on that mission...no you did not leave the warp out to late mission rats do warp scram you... ========= "I am not saying there should be capital punishment for stupidity, but why can`t we just take the safety labels off everything and let the problem fix its self |

Don't buy 2 Dominixes for 55 mill and try to sell them instantly for 60,000.00 (which is not 60 mill) for instant profit.

1 - Just because you fly a raven and think you can kick just about anyone's ass does not mean you're gonna survive againced 2 hacs. (1 raven) 2 - Fitting a battleship with all smart bombs and the rest cap recharge equipment does not really mean that it will live long enough to kill anything (1 apoc) 3 - Torps are too damned slow and should never be used solo againced another person, esspecially if he's in a hac. (didnt cost a bloody thing, but ticked me off when he warped) 4 - Just because you live in 0.0 does not really mean that you're safe in your alliance area, chances are you'll get raped sooner or later (another raven) 5 - When travelling through empire and in a big alliance - dont be a dumb Fu*& and go afk with 300,000,000isk worth of domination stuff in hull (pretty obvious) 6 - Just cause there's a girl's toon, does NOT mean that the pilot is really female (dignity) 7 - In relation to the above, sometimes it is a girl, and talking to her with the starting statement "Hey, man" will get you podded (one Caracal) 8 - Kestral is a kick ass pvp ship if you can fly it well (mmmm skillz) 9 - That bloody dreadnaught skill is NOT cheap! ------------ Atlantis Earth Studio Jovian Chronicles

Could probably hit 100s here but just 5 of my worst realisations...
5. The little ships tackle and make it easier for big ships to hit you and stop you running, so yes, they are dangerous, remember this! (cost:My first ever BS, 1 typhoon) 4. Always, always, always double check escrow prices. (cost: 50 mill) 3. Just to cover what others have said, dont ever play drunk, your ship really isnt that godly! ( Many ships) 2. No matter how good your skills, how sweet ur new t2 1400s are and how many gyros you have, please dont test ur Tempest' max damage on an old rat can in 0.5 space 'cos it just might not be your rat can... (Cost: 1 tempest, lots of mods and soooo much pride) 1. Dont ever cancel your EVE account and then forget to reactivate it... (Cost: 1 character with 12mill SP (a lot to me), lots of BS, Cruisers and AFs, 200mill isk and the frustration of starting again)

DO NOT JUMP TO THE NEXT GATE! pick a planet or station and log for an hour or two. Bugger followed me and gave me lots of ouchies. Positive security rating means jack squat!
Cost: Iteron V, local hulls, dignity, clone, 2 days off life (stress).
