I'm closing in on the skills to fly a covert op ship with corp members. My question is their really any difference with which one I go with. With my skills I could go either Amarr, Gal, and possibly Caldari without much time...Although i'm closest with my Gal.

Buzzard is easiest to fit with cloak and scan probe. Cheetah is fastest and most agile. Anathema mostly sucks. Dunno much about the Helios.

Edited by: KilROCK on 24/03/2006 23:11:44 If you want cloak + probe - Buzzard is the best at fitting them. Rather slow but it's fine.
If your job is to pin down stuff fast and get somewhere quickly cheetah is your ship but it has very very low cpu.
Helios is the rounded up one, It's not fast, it's not too slow, it has decent cpu.
I never tried the anathema, people say it sucks. I don't see why to be honest. It's similar to the buzzard, without the ability to fit a probe launcher easily, But it has alot of armor and more PG than most Covert op..
It has alot of cap, for long warp.. Which i always lack in a buzzard..
Kinda like an assault one LOL. But yea.. Buzzard or cheetah is good choices.

To get a cheetah to work properly (as in actually fit a scan probe launcher & cloak) you need cov-ops to lvl 5, which is a pain. Anything less than lvl 5, and the CPU is too tight to fit.
The helios can fit plenty at cov ops to lvl 4. Dunno about the other 2.

The cheetah is nice because its really fast, and you won't even try and get a probe launcher on there, which you'll be tempted to do on the others. --- Our greatest glory is not in never failing, but in rising up every time we fail. - Emerson |

It's a shame, as I was looking at some skill progressions for myself, and I fly only Minmatar ships. However it is quicker to train cov ops to 4 & another frig skill to 5 than to just get cov ops 5 !

Edited by: Bellac on 25/03/2006 00:04:58 It seems to me that unfortunately the devs where so worried that covert ops ships might be too powerful and unbalanced, that they got a mega nerf bat before anyone got to fly them. This makes them difficult to fit and use unless you have put in alot of training time. covert-ops lvl 5 is minimum requirement If you want to fit more than just a cloak for example.
I would like to see a little bit of loving delivered towards this ship class to make them a bit more widely used. Having a few modules that work while cloaked would not be such a bad thing either. You cant even use probes while cloaked
And I think that all ships in the class should have at least CPU of 300. They all use just about the same modules, so why are cpu levels so different. The amarr and mini versions arw well behind the other 2 because of this.

Edited by: Tar Magen on 25/03/2006 00:14:39 How useful is the Buzzard as an archeology ship?
I've been thinking of a loadout along these lines:
Highs: 1xrocket launcher II with long range rockets 1xscan probe launcher (usually offline) 1xcovert ops cloak II
Mids: 1xcold arc gas jet thrusters 1xsmall cap battery II 1xsmall shield booster II 1xinvulnerability field I 1xarcheology unit
Lows: 1xMAPC 1xBCU

I enjoy my anthema, fits in well with my amarr skills. But with lvl.4 cov ops ...and sacraficing your low slots for CPUs(I'm cheap and use CPU1's :P) You can get the cov ops cloak, afterburner and a probe launcher(and a beam...I dont know why i have a dual light beam on it but..yea in case i run into a pvp n00b ship or something) on the anthema.

cheetah : fastest, CAN fit cloak + probe launcher with 2x cpu II helios: fast, easy to fit, but still takes cpu to fit cloak + probe launcher buzzard: easy to fit, slowest from the above 3
Special section: anathema: slowest cloaker, 2. lowest cpu, it has 3 lows to help out, however it takes 2x cpu II to fit cloak + probe launcher, and with one overdrive/nanofibre it is still slower than helios.
So, whatever you do, don't go for anathema. Cheetah is best because it is fastest, everything else is pretty much unimportant, 430m/s cloaked is more than anathema with AB(well almost)
