I heard the Devs had to sell an arm or a leg each to keep the place running. This explains the increasing number of typos in the code.
They have sold Pann to an asian billionaire who loved the looks of her Avatar, too.

Yes, Westwood was responsible for Dune 2 and everything that was based on that concept, ie the C&C series.

The poor writing, glaring errors and generally slippery, meek grasp of the English language I see whenever I look up the info. on a station or read a RP in-game message ruins the immersion part of the game for me. I now force myself to imagine my own RP stories and descriptions of game elements.

No, those aren't typos or meek grasp of the English language on the parts of the writers/developers ... that is an amazing bit of immersive background on the "borderlands" educational system in the Eve area.
You'll notice the schools have military, business, science, and industrial majors ... but no literary ones? That is due to the subsistance level of education currently present :-)

they could sell their eyes to David Bowie wannabies, they only need one to code, they don't need depth perception.
Also, they can have and sell children, that is pretty profitable.

I hope CCP gets bought by Nintendo, then I could pilot a Yoshi ship to the mushroom kingdom, and fire blazing barrels at giant space monkeys. -------------------------------------------- Dead

Boooo-whoooo...Go away you Harald of misfortune!
By the way, Westwood it's the creator of the C&C series (Command and conquer) and is also the maker of E&B (Earth and Beyond). A game that takes place in space in a galaxy far far away... called "Karebearhum VX" (Hi hi...)
Really, it's a pity of game, and it was going not so good. Westwood had to fire two or three people in the firm and relocate to cut down costs and such, to continue to support the game.
When i was still playing this cra...errmmm, game, in the forums the community manager affirmed that the decision to relocate Westwood studios from Vegas to California was made and taken BY EA... so i wouldn't take a buyout of EVE and CCP from EA so lightly... EA = Sharks. Period.
Hope this does NOT translates into reality... really.

And they are independent developers

CDV? Yup - that'd kill anything off, entirely, without ANY doubts.
CDV have been the worst publisher in Europe for.. well.. ever.
They are totally useless.

Electronic Arts would ruin Eve just as they have with both Westwood Studios and Bullfrog.
I can see myself quitting within a couple months after such a purchase from Electronic Arts and moving on to some other game.
Quite a few Eve players probably already have tried Earth and Beyond and see the same situation. Earth and Beyond was a game with great potential which quickly became a disappointment. Too many broken promises and their new patches were a complete joke. Best example is the missing three classes after almost a year of release.

Edited by: Daesdemona on 12/09/2003 13:27:42 Gaming companies have a lot of problems going from a small company that is truly dedicated to their product to a large company where employees are more detached from the goals...
Management is to blame.
On the other hand you have such companies as Squaresoft and Sony that keep the games rocking.
Personally though, the best games are produced by small teams of people that don't sleep.

Problem with "publishers" is they just simply do that. No creativity or intelligence necessary. They advertize and vomit full color glossys into every game ho mag they can get to spread its pages with a bit of money. Ultimately its one of 3 things that keep a game going, ridiculous amounts of ad buzz to sell it up, a developer who has a huge wallet, or a great game. Whole problem with the gaming industry is they bet the farm one way or another on how "big" a game will be. There is no "investment" in future profits. Its all "MAKE MONEY NOW" or they figure its a lame game and pull the plug. I'd love it if MMOGS go Open Source and then the people who really enjoy these games can cut some code.

Well I for one will not worry about what I can not control. This is still speculation and not a certainty. Though if it does happen, I PRAY TO GOD that Sony/Verant does not get it.
I think if I had the ability to choose, I might go with Mythic. They produce Dark Age of Camelot and seem to be prety good for support and listening to the players. Not having a space title to go against STG, or E&B, it would be a good aquisition.

If Microsoft buys EVE, its all over , But if EA buys it, I'm sure it will become a greater game than it is right now, and it might be expanded to the point that there will be a New EVE that may take place on the other side of the EVE gate, which could lead to a whole new thing to wait for

Hmmmmm...now the reasoning behind the premature launch of Eve (sans any creditable marketing strategy whatsoever) becomes apparant. Or am I just an old cynic?
Fingers crossed any prospective new publisher can see the potential we all know exists and can get behind the game a lot more enthusiastically than S&S ever bothered to. Killgorde

Never heard of the other titles, so I imagine no one is likly to buy ssi for them. It would appear that they are looking for a buyer for EVE.
Since they have made it clear that they have tried for 4 years to make a succes of computer games, and failed because it is not the business they have any skill in, it looks like they want out one way or the other.
What does a publisher do exactly? - since they are capable of selling EVE it it must be more than marketing it.

I have also heard that someone keeps leaving loads of lawnmowers outside the entrance of Simon & Schuster, so it take them an hour to get into work - thats why they want to sell EVE.
