How about a module based on the hacking mini game which allows players to break in/access some resources contained within an outpost. The module would have to be activated within 5000m of the structure and would render the ship immobile, similar to a cyno deployment, whilst it was active. A way to steal resources from ones enemy/adversary more directly than the siphon units, but also highly risky given the close quarters required for the module to work. The reward would have to be a player tradable item/resource of significant value to make the risk worth taking. Limits would have to exist preventing hell camping of stations.
Please discuss. |

1 trit, the value of this idea.
Imagine jita, and all those undock watchers also getting free stuff from jita, c/o people that actually work/grief to place stuff there.
Imagine a spacepony with two highs, two mid and two lows, 3 rigs, +5km/level of rainbow magik skill Rainbow magic repulsion, and
a specialized role of ponyfarting, which forces everyone on grid to warp 100km away. can only unleash ponyAOE once every cycle of Ponyday weapon, one cycle per hour.
ponyfarts increase sig by 10000%. Cannot use ponyfarts anywhere outside of 1.0, 1.0< aren't magic enough.
My idea is more plausible, more fleshed out, and leaves less work for other people.
Your idea:
Some thing some where that get me free stuff, you work out details
My idea: Fleshed out, implausible and stupid, but with intended game mechanic explained, numbers involved, limits and detriments included.
My guess: my idea will be more popular. Get some Eve. Make it yours.

So...by steal stuff, do you mean steal from the players, the outpost owner, or something more akin to ratting or exploration loot?
Because if you're stealing from players, corps or alliances, I want you to explain EXACTLY why our stuff should be vulnerable to any random in a covops, no matter what we do. It'll be impossible to defend against this, especially if, for example, you're stealing my stuff out of a station now in hostile hands. Stuff I could potentially retrieve in a number of ways as it stands. |

Interesting responses.
I like the pony fart idea only if it could be a tradable commodity.
The idea really was to encourage a different form of player aggression/combat/direct action if you would. So as far as outpost was concerned I was really referring to outpost in sovereignty space so hi/low sec would be off limits.
Bearing in mind these stations are rarely unmanned and also the use of this module would render your ship immobile the risk would be primarily on the part of the aggressor. If any pilot undocked the aggressor would almost certainly die as they would be stationary for the duration of the modules active cycle. As to what could be plundered or rewarded for your efforts we'd need to further explore.
Of course I don't think it would be fair to be able to target a particular player either so the loss would likely be suffered by the corporation or alliance holding the station.
I don't see this kind of loss as worse than losing ones ship in combat. |

So all I have to do is roll on through some renter alliance's space in their off TZ and I can get rich for literally zero risk of any description, right? I can steal everything they own and there is not a damn thing they can do to stop me.
Explain how this is balanced. |

OP displays his ignorance, here. I think he is genuinely unaware of the fact that sov changing hands means stations change hands. Of course, stations changing hands doesn't actually let you access anything in that station... even years later, your stuff in 0.0 remains safe, regardless of whether or not the alliance you were in at the time even still exists.
This change would simply mean that people could randomly loot stuff out of stations, randomly taking random items from random players. After all, OP hasn't considered in any way the problems of 'who are you stealing from?' or 'what are you stealing?'
Terrible idea, not supported. |
