I have been experiencing frequent mini lock ups. The game runs fine at around 60fps most of the time with everything turned on to he max. But every 15 seconds or so Eve locks up for 1 second seriously interrupting game play. Not sure what is causing it, but as you can imagine trying to fight with your game freezing on you every 15 seconds isnÆt much fun. My system specs are as follows:
P4 2.6ghz Northwood Abit AI7 1gb ram Geforce 5950fx Creative X-Fi Leadtek TV-Tuner card
I really hope someone knows whatÆs up or some potential fixes as this is really ruining my enjoyment of this game.

Same here. Annoying 1sec freezes.
I have found out the following.
When I load eve it uses around 160mb ram. When the game starts to freeze its running over 650mb ram.
I have
2.8GHZ HT P4 2048MB RAM Win XP Pro ATi 9800XT 256MB
It appears that its got a memory leak.

Edited by: Destructor1792 on 30/03/2006 16:51:01 search Google for a program called:
"freemem" or "Free Mem"
install this and it will stop Eve or any other program swiping too much of your system memory.
Did this on mine and no probs afterwards
If that doesn't work, then it may be a bottleneck issue with the graphics card or another device taking up too much of the Motherboards' bandwidth (northbridge controller i think) - try lowering the settings of your devices to see if this helps.

i had something similar, and it occured especially when client has runn for some hours. I red the advice in some chanel to open the "monitor" (ctrl-alt-shift-m) and on the settings tab uncheck the 2 options.
I have no idea what this does or if it will help you. It did seem to have lessend my freezes.
If maybe someone can explain what this setting does, i would apreciate it.

I'll have to check those 2 settings tonight and see if they help.

I've been having the same problem. Everything is fine when I start up. After about an hour of game play, I start to get 1/2 second to 1 second freeze ups. They seem to be spaced about 30 seconds apart. These continue to get worse the longer I stay logged in.
I have found though that if I log out and then log right back in again, that this resets things and everything is fine again. Well, at least for an hour or so before the freeze up start again.
I wish I could identify the root cause of this and correct it. I'd prefer to not have to shut the client down and log back in every hour.

I'm having the same issue.
When I first had the problem I noticed a memory leak... The game would shoot up to nearly a gig of used ram. One day the leak vanished, but I still got the hiccups after a couple of hours of play. The other day I nuked my cache folder, I still stutter, and the leak came back.
Go figure :)

i am also having this problem.
i have taken the settings down to the bare core, and i have also taken them all the way up, and every thing in between.
AMD 2600+ eVGA nVidia GeForce 6600GT 1.3GB RAM
installing a 3rd party memory application is unacceptable.
the game ran fine before the server hardware upgrade. perfectly in fact. REVERSE CONDITIONING: Putting saliva into a dog's mouth in an attempt to make a bell ring. |

I am having the same problem as well. Game freezes periodically but does not crash or disconnect. Starts immediately after log in. Especially noticeable after jumping--often when control returns to me, its been long enough for the emergency warp to initiate. There is no memory leak that I can tell--the game just started doing this after one of the patches. I tried it in different systems and during off-hours--same result. Needless to say this makes PvP impossible. Running AMD Athlon 64 3000+ Nvidia 6800GT/Ultra 1 GB of RAM

i completely uninstalled the client i deleted everything from the ~program files\ccp* folder i downloaded and installed a fresh 3900 client and rebooted fully reinstalled with no trace ov the game before i disabled chat logging and picked a middle ov the road video config
i am still having the problem. see my last post if you care about hardware config.
has anyone pettitioned/heard anything from ccp? im wondering if this is a 'known' bug or if i should just pettition it. i am willing to help the cause if someone has any leads. ---

Well I unchecked the 2 settings but I still will get the lockups. It takes a while of play time, so it would seam the memory leak continues.

I had this on one of my accounts, tried everything, de fra on Hd, clearing all ecept cache etc but still the same. Got rid of it by re installing COMPLETY eve for the account in question, un-installing and reinstalling, including the cache as well but this worked, just had to do my folders again :(
Been a week now and no more problems

I think I am having the same problem. The game will freeze for a second and then speed up. This happens more and more until the whole game slows down entirely and then locks up permanently. I tried reinstalling the client and using FreeRAM XP, neither helped, and I think FreeRAM XP actually made it worse - however I am not too computer literate so that may have been my fault. I did the cache thing and that did not help either. The only thing that works is rebooting my computer every 2-3 hours, which gets old quickly. I am using:
AMD 64 3500 1 GB Ram Radeon X800 PRO256mb
Are there any other options to try? I have seen a couple people suggest changing values in some files but I am hesitant because of my limited computer knowledge.

Hi everyone - I'm getting the same problem, eve locks up entire PC, even if I just have eve in the background. I've tried fresh install of eve, updated video and audio drivers, still no luck. It certainly seems to be an issue with eve itself, there are too many people with the same problem.
If everyone with this problem could submit a petition to ccp then they might pay some attention and fix this bug.

I had the same problem, but cured it: Go into you EvE folder. then into cache and open prefs.ini with notepad. Change.... buffersize=80 to buffersize=256 or 512 (depending on your ram amount) Then save the edited version. This also helps cure lag. Hope this helps guys..Sure helps me in battles. Oh and Turn off you in game sound by pressing Esc and selecting the option, and when fighting turn off all effects first - Ctrl + alt + shift + E.

I have 1 gig of ram and this actually caused hardcore paging even though I had enough RAM - it totally counterbalanced the point of increasing the buffer since EVE ran worse.
On my Athlon 1700 with 384mb ram though I set the buffersize to 20 and it runs smooth as hell now... :D

I tried this :( Didn't change anything, I'm still getting the frequent quick freezes. Should I try lowering the buffersize?

The MS hotfix here resolved most of my periodic hesitation issues on my dual core system. It seems to still occur after I have played for a number of hours, but I usually have to stop before then.
