Hello forums friends and trolls I would like to throw out what it is like for a real new player to EVE. Now don't be fooled by my account age. I only did a trial back in 2007, I am quite lucky I even remembered my username. had to reactivate that old email. so here is my take coming from games like Everquest 2, Star wars Galaxies, Both Asherons Call's, liniage II and some no name mmo's
Eve is spectacularly complex. Thank You! I do not like how most of these mmo's are going where they literally lead you to the trough. I was a bit lost at first. But yes! you installed a basic tutorial. This helps in volumes!
The market is also a bit more complex than what I am used to, but it is user friendly enough where I figured it out enough to over pay but hey I got what I needed . Maybe the devs can have a category for beginners and skill books that would be for them. like a new player tab and what skill books we can immediately learn?
Visual effects in the game are nice, but it makes me sleepy
Game world is just nuts, its HUGE
I am on a nice machine I bought last summer so kinda confused that it has slight delay/lag on the radials ect. I fear this will SUCK when I get into pvp
After the tutorial I feel like I am missing something..oh yes mining. I am thinking that will come in oen of those business tutorials. so far I only did the advanced military. Do you all recommend I do all the agents missions or just stick with military ones?
Now mind you I am 3 days old, so I am sure there is more to learn. ps mumble is lame. I got on it the first day and haven't been able to get back on it since, not on the server i was told to go to Nor the public. FAIL. Is there a in game voice?
Character models...they depress me. no really . can we get some mood emotes or mood activators so my gal don't look like she wishes she could have an espresso sometime this week? Other than that nice graphics. its especially fun tomake my toons look ********, all those facial sculpts are fantastically fun
So in closing, game looks really nice, slow learning curve but helpful community for those questions. I feel like this game is worth subbing, so much game play and content. Hoping someday to actually land on planets though, wouldn't that just be the bees knees (sandycheeks from spingebob quote haha)
Any tips on a basic set of skill books you think any newb should want will be appreciated
p.s I havent been blown into the next universe yet wAhoO! lol |

I have totally enjoyed pvp in any of the games I played in the past. One time I was getting beat down so hard on a newb pvp toon that all I could do is laugh and say dannnng! lol No, I am not the rage quitting type. I understand that many deaths, sacrifices and in this game ship fodder will occur before I even have the chance to put up a decent fight. but you learn through these experiences...well most people do lol |

Is not only for PvP. For any gameplay you will join is better to leave hig-sec as soon as possible, you learn more in 1 day of low/null than in 1 month of HS.
HS enforce a lot of artificial barriers and mechanics to protect players. But this also limit the gameplay and often just those same mechanics offer more room for exploits and grieffing.
In HS you don't learn an huge part of the game simply because you don't need it. So my humble hint is to not fall in the "I wait to be prepared and skilled to move" beause you will never be till you don't move.

Or at the very least head over to the recruitment forum and find a noob friendly PVP corp. To be honest you can have some good PVP in any type of space. There are just more rules to learn in High sec.
Personally, I'd go go high, wormhole or null sec. Low is really not for beginners in my opinion. It's pretty specialized and narrow in what kind of fights you'll get. The exception being Factional Warfare which can be a lot of fun.

Definitely do all the tutorials (yes, even the mining ones). At the end, you end up with a bunch of ships, skillbooks and ISK which is very helpful getting started. Also, although the missions can be a bit dull, you do learn the basics of the UI, Eve specific terms, and the like.
After the tutorials, do the Sisters of Eve missions. These are a bit more challenging and will put a little bit of cash in your pocket and some more in game experience. Low sec and null can wait a few days while you learn the basics.
After that, find a good corp: Brave Newbies, RedvsBlue, and Eve University are good places to start, depending on where your interests lie.

You probably won't be using the radial menus during PvP.
1) Eye on the overview 2) Click in space to manually fly your ship as much as possible. 3) Focus on target 4) Manage modules via appropriate F-key combo's 5) Also don't forget to watch local if your target brings more friends. |

Yes keyboard and f macros will save your life..
Dont forget to properly set up your over views and save them (god by all means title them to)
Keep local in its own window ..
When u can get a cheep multi button mouse or moba or mmo mouse number keys on side of mouse is a big plus :P (thats just personal preference.) |

My advice, do all the agent missions and read my signature if you plan to do mining in LoSec. Don't tease the Rats, and if you do, GTFO of the system. Unless you are dumb like me and try to ninja some more ore while an HIC sneaks up on you.

If you want to add a little more complexity to your game there is an affiliate service called Entropia Partners that allows you to quickly make fast Millions by doing web tasks and ad viewing. Payout usally range between 1.5 million to 2 million for simple 3 minute surveys and activities.
The greatest benefit of this service is that it helps get new people into Eve Online, notably, if they know they can make a quick bit of starting cash. You can see from my screen cap, I made over 20 million ISK in around 30 minutes. That is HUGE for a new person starting off. There is no way you can even earn close to that as a starting miner in the same amount of time. |

OP, don't do this. I don't know if it is considered RMT or not but it is against the EULA/TOS to pay someone in ISK for an outside job.
And to answer your question about the server lag. The server operates on one second ticks. whenever you input a command, the output will happen on the next server tick. This along with TiDi keeps the lag down a lot.
My favorite thing about Eve, is like you said the game world is huge. This is also a part of everyone (except the Chinese, grr totalitarian goverments) playing on the same server. This means that, like in real life, you have to deal with language, culture, and timezone differences.

Because their 'Great Internet Firewall' that stops them from accessing the rest of the world also applies to games as well. So because they can't interact with a server that has people from all over, they had to get their own server.

I have been in Eve for five months. So far I have been getting myself trained up, got a plan going, and chatting with different corps getting insight on what is going on.
What I would consider the two most important things to not get popped in highsec are:
-Never autopilot your ship while going afk.
(( I got popped once doing this in an industrial ship. Pretty much, the fellow who killed me was looking specifically to suicide gank autopilot ships. I've read about these things happening many times but chose to ignore it. ))
-Never take direct routes to major trade stations.
(( The more populated an area, the greater the number of traders, therefore, gankers there will be. I flew from a jumpgate directly to Jita and waiting for me were a small fleet of ships right at the point where I decelerated. For the major trade hubs in Dodixie, Rens, Amarr, Jita and Hek, warp to a moon or planet, then dock to the station. Or, warp at range of 100 km or so to scope out the station. ))

Im one of those highsec guys that lives in lowsec when I feel like doing it.
Weather or not the game gets better in null is up for debate. But since you are new (again) dont worry about that.
As for skills, when you are at a point that you dont NEED to train something specific at the time. Focus on the Engineering and Electronics based skills. Train Weapons upgrades up a bit. Then train up your factions weapons and tank, then when thats usable think about some navigation skills. You can swap around weapons, tank, electronics, and engineering skills as you need in order of importance at the time. As for the level to train them, you should always train to at least 3 if you can then 4 not that long after.
Since you are basically stuck in my world for now minus the lowsec PVP that sometimes finds its way much deeper then that. Sometimes we wonder to places people dont like lol, and Ive been playing for a while I do have some advice.
If you start getting bored make a point to learn something. Ive been playing since 2009 and have 3 accounts. There is still a lot of stuff I dont know but I do know what I need to pretty damn well. I can PVP with older players I know.
Eve is complex, find what you like and just delv into it. No matter how old you get remember how awesome the game felt when you where new and the excitement and reward you feel when you finally either understand or accomplish something.
For me just turning the game music back on makes the game feel new again.
You will have to find some friends to learn from, but if you are fortunate to find to good people early on that are both good people and know the game, you can form a meaningful relationship with some people that spans far beyond EVE.
Just remember there is always something you either suck at, need to work on, or should get back too, it does not matter how old you are. EVE is the king of long term reward. This will probably always be my favorite game. Not just because of how good it is, but I'm one of the few people that understands what it really is about and can always find something worth my time to do. I am at a point where I almost need to be in a major nullsec alliance to really benifate, but I still make the game more then fun for myself by being creative with what I am doing and just loving the game.
If you get bored, learn about something else.... always be learning and testing your boundaries, this is one of the only games that you can basically do that forever and it is what will keep you here.
Also make sure to "HTFU" and dont automatically trust anyone and be happy about the fact that you are playing a game where you have to look at everyone as if they are psychopath thief lol. |
