I have been a EVE player for about 4 years now, on a new account. I was here before, during, and after the Incarna expansion. I knew it was supposed to bring walking around outside of your pod with your avatar, which it did. But it was also supposed to bring multiplayer experience to inside the stations (bars, corporate offices, agent offices, etc.). What happened to all of that stuff? Is it still in development? Or a lost cause? |

To my knowledge, CCP has currently no resources allocated to that project. So in the short term (next few expansions) it is unlikely that we will see any content along those lines.
In the long term, who knows? Could be like fac war where you get nothing for ~5 years, and then suddenly it becomes amazing and worthwhile. vOv |

No one wanted WIS to happen back then there was going to be an outrage and lots of players were going to leave the game.
This is a spaceship game and CCP said in a statement somewhere in these forum or threads in the past that WIS is not going to happen.
So do not expect CCP to worrie about useless WIS its not going to happen at all and it is a lost cause.
That is where Dust 514 has taken over with Walking and Fighting on Planets.

Actually, the big upset was at the potential of CCP introducing pay to win with the NEX store.
The vocal minority were upset with dev allocation to the incarna project.
From what I can tell, the majority of people would be totally fine, or indifferent to, a walking in stations feature.
It all got grouped in together and the whole thing got shitcanned. |

People felt exploited and the backlash led to CCP promising the refocus on FiS. |

CCP management believed that we'd fall over each other to throw money at them for space pants and monocles and so didn't think they needed to include any gameplay. As such, they spent two years designing themselves into a corner that will take a great deal more development effort to get themselves back out of than they have available to them right now, that would involve taking resources away from core game development (even more so than they have done so already with other projects), and for a playerbase already deeply sceptical on their ability to deliver.
Unsurprisingly, it's on hold indefinitely. Post on the Eve-o forums with a Goonswarm Federation character that drinking bleach is bad for you, and 20 forum warriors will hospitalise themselves trying to prove you wrong. |

Don't listen to Rhes. The Incarna riots and the people unsubbing had little or nothing to do with CCP's plan to implement more Avatar content. Incarnaggedon was the result of a large number of failings on CCP's part, fueled by micro-transactions and a terrible effort to address the issue by telling people to Harden the **** Up. |

The use of resources in incarna enraged playerbase that left in mass. CCP apologysed deeply on their knees to not go bankrupt and promissed they would focus on SPACE not in walking in stations and that means its basically dead for foreseable future. CCP are currently consulting with Peter Molyneux on more ways they can talk about stuff they will never actually do and make money off of it. |

Well yes, there is that. But they have it working for World of Darkness which is using a changed CARBON engine, so they should be able to commute the changes fairly easily. Python is an OOP language, so if they didn't make those changes modular and with loose coupling then... well, then they're terrible people and they should feel bad. |

I for one dont remember the riots being about the use of resources for Incarna, or the concept of WIS.
I remember people being enraged by the fact that Incarna was released with a crazy micro transaction model that was not so micro. The "greed is good" newsletter that highlighted ccp's greed and internal discussions of p2w models. The terrible implementation of WIS, the Incarna expansion added nothing other than a room which gave no additional gameplay, nothing like the fanfest videos that were shown years before that had actual content , and what people were expecting.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LwFB272ckvk
I really dont see how avatar gameplay and expanding on WIS could be a bad thing for EVE, I still would much rather see development of WIS rather than DUST and Valkyrie.

Some people have experienced walking along the bottom of their station...
If I recall correctly most of the team working on WIS were laid off or reassigned to other projects. The customers spoke, CCP listened. Hilmar suddenly realized how easy it could be to lose his baby. I imagine he's feeling even less comfortable now with Star Citizen taking in 30+ million without even launching or providing a beta. CCP is going to try very very hard to retain its players now, and "Walking in stations" is not it. |

Except the customers didn't ask CCP not to work on avatar content, they told them not to use a micro-transactions model (special edition 10 year anniversary items for hundreds of pounds anyone?), not to ignore old features, and to pull their resources back to working on Eve rather than spreading themselves too thin.
Today, the CQ and Avatar content is an ignored feature (and all the most used content in-game is still ignored), we still have micro-transactions and CCP are still selling us mega-expensive vanity items. They pooled their resources back to working on Eve around Crucible and Inferno, but it's clear those resources are being spread thin again (One more game Eve has to pull the weight of 'Valkyrie'). CCP may have 'listened' to the players, but they sure as hell haven't done what we asked. Things are the same now as they were then. |

I don't think there was ever a problem with monocles and other vanity items. And the players certainly never had a problem with PLEX, if that's what you mean by micro transaction. Where do you see other micro transactions? The whole NEX store has absolutely zero impact on the game and that's the way we wanted it. No "gold ammo". |

Some whiny gnats happened.
They hijacked the protests against micro payments and convinced everyone that they could never fly a space ship anymore when we were able to walk in sations and actually do avatar based gameplay in those.
Stupidity should be a bannable offense.

Players never had a problem with the monocles and other vanity items? I am going to assume you weren't playing during Incarnaggedon then. The NEX store was what most of the hoo-ha was about, as well as the leaked internal memo that said they were going to introduce the whole 'gold ammo' thing.
As for the current mega expensive vanity items. The cybernetic arm, the pirate patch monocle, the tattoos... only available by spending -ú100+ on the collectors edition. |

You do relize tho, that the collectors edition contains a lot more than just some fancy virtual items, yes?
Most people just boughtit for the art book and the board game, all the other stuff (the Rifter shaped USB Hub, the Plex, the virtual items) that was just icing on the cake. Stupidity should be a bannable offense.

Yea, fair enough I suppose. Except you shouldn't really be making assumptions about why 'most people' bought it.

In that case I only think in the best way of people who did or did not buy the CE.
Because, and it's really just that, I refuse to believe that anyone could be daft enough to spend 150Gé¼ on a vanity item for a game, any game actually (billionaires expluded at some point money just doesn't matter that much anymore). Stupidity should be a bannable offense.
