Well, as a fun thing, here's a bit of a competition without any prices. It's all about prestige ("Ha! Devs thought my idea was great!")
Design your tier 3 battleship!
Now, before you all get a bit fuzzy and stuff, I'll post a few guidelines. * The latent data which can be found in the data extracts do not aply. There's been enough threds about those ships already * The goal is to design Amarr ships that are Amarr, not Khanid, and certainly not Caldari. These are navy standard issue ships, not special built stuff. * The goal is also to post designs that are somewhat unique. The means, among other things, no new drone ships (Dominix), no new ECM ships (Scorpion), and no new bastards that noone will fly (Typhoon :p) * The upperbound powerlevel is slightly weaker than faction ships * The lowerbound powerlevel is... Typhoon, actually. Don't think this will be a problem, though.
Some avarage stats guidelines (key word is "avarage"). Powergrid: 19,000 CPU: 600 Total hit points: 20,000 Total number of slots: 19* Hardpoint limit: none * Note how certain BShips have less (Dominix and Scorpion), while all the others, tier 1 as well as tier 2, have 19. Only faction BShips get 20 slots. However, if you feel 20 justified, then by all means don't let guidelines stop you!
Some bonuses to use (aply to racial equipment as appropriate): * 5% rate of fire** * 5% damage bonus*** * 5% electronic warfare module efficiency * 10% (or possibly higher) target painter efficiency * 10% electronic warfare module optimal range * 10% electronic warfare module fall off * 10% turret optimal range * 10% turret fall off * 10% missile (and torpedo) velocity * 10% drone damage and hit points¦ * 10% drone velocity and hit points¦ * 10% electronic warfare drone efficiency¦ * 15% logistic drone efficiency¦ * -19.8% drone control module CPU requirement (High slot +1 drone controlled module)¦ * 10% capacitor capacity * -5% capacitor recharge time * 10% armour or shield hit points * 5% armour or shield resistances * 7.5% armour or shield reparation amount * 7.5% armour or shield repairer duration (much stronger than the above, but suck cap like mad) * -5% signature radius * 5% ship velocity * 7.5% turret tracking * -5% missile explosion radius (aka fly swatter, but also needed to have torps to 100% dmg on minmatar BShips)
** Avoid this bonus as much as possible, and never field a double rate of fire bonus. Keep in mind that it's a lot stronger than a normal damage bonus as well as adds greatly to server updates (keeping RoF bonuses down today makes for less server update problems tomorrow) *** Battleships do not get damage bonuses to racial missiles first, but a double damage bonus on missiles will likely be one for all missiles and one for racial missiles. ¦ These are listed as suggestions only for forms sake, or if someone really wants to do a REALLY droney ship - something the Dominix isn't quite.

Basically, the best sniper ingame. Only, couldnt have it gallante because theyre not allowed 10% bonus to hybred range  ---------------------------

add another mid, and change the bonuses to 10% optimal range and 5% damage or shield resist and you basically have what's lurking in the item database at the moment.

I see quite a few posting caldari snipers with many turrets and tripple bonuses (10% damage = 2x 5% damage), and it makes me sad 
I like the suggestion of a dampener Gallente ship, though, since it fits with the story. Must be said, though, that Caldari ships and Gallente ships in some aspects seem to have been reversed...
Keep in mind that tier 3 is not supposed to make tier 1 or tier 2 obsolete!

Decent sniper and the rate of fire bonus doesn't at all make it overpowered considering the damage penalty. The idea was to give it a 'thing' all of it's own. Fast firing, slow damaging railguns at range is the concept.
EDIT: To clarify - the bonuses put dps slightly higher than a Tempest with t2 1400mm but lower than a Megathron with t2 425mm.

Minmatar T3: Squall
7.5% damage bonus to Large Autocannons 5% velocity
Slot layout: This is a bit tricky though. A good AC boat slot layout would be the same as the typhoon already have, I guess. Some might argue "Then to make it different from other minmatar battleships, let's give it a lot of mids for shieldtank!", but that would also make it an AC/EW king, which sounds totally awesome but might also be a bit unbalancing. A fast ship with a lot of mids will lock down any ship too easily I think, being able to scramble, web, target disrupt etc. at once without a problem. So give it lows for speedmods or an armortank instead to avoid this scenario. While 8 lows might also be unbalancing, give it the same layout as the phoon, but a way smaller dronebay and bonuses that will give it totally different setups from the phoon anyways.
8 (8 turret hardpoints, 2 missile) 4 midslots 7 lowslots
PG: 16750 CPU: 625
It should be able to fit a full rack of AC's without a terribly big problem. Train Adv. Weapon Upg. Lvl 5 might be needed to free out all lowslots though.
Shields: 5896 Armor: 5565
Same resses as the phoon and tempest.
Cap: 4500 Scanres: 110mm Base speed: 145m/s (at lvl 5 bs: 185m/s)
This ship wont serve too much use in shipbattles, tempest will still be the king there with it's 1400mm's, but it will be the missing ship for us people who always wanted a minmatar BS that make full use of large autocannons. A ship with apparent uses in both smaller PvP gangs and lone PvE, can deal a good deal of damage at expense of no real range. Always thought minmatar are a race who want to rip their enemies apart up close and personal, and here's the chance to give them a ship that can do that :)

Ms. Spitfire: I was hoping that people'd not design obvious ship of the month/year, but rather something that could be discussed pros and cons over. Your own suggestion makes a ship vastly more powerful than any faction ships, and the devs've stated that's not really wanted for tier 3. Use tier 2 as guidelines, and don't be shy to look at other races for dps caps versus range caps. Remember that tier 2 should not be made obsolete - and that goes across race limits so a Caldari turret boat should not make the Megathron last century's left overs.

If it wasn't for the low powergrid, the dps would actually be 20% higher than the Megathron. Remember that RoF removes from the divident, and thus a 10% rate of fire actually doubles dps at level 5.

Ooh, nasty. Really good suggestion as long as the damage bonus aplies only to AC (can be done, that's how the Megathron was built waaay back - with bonuses only to blasters)
Kind of makes my Gallente-lovign heart a wee bit jelous, though, since your Squall is everything a close range ship needs to be that Gallente will never build.
Oh, and as for Minmatar names Typhoon > Tempest > Hurricane ? (I bet people will start naming their tier 3 minmatar after the latest Florida-wrecker, though)

1) agreed with the hurrican name 2) change the bonus to rate of fire, so it doesn't make 1400mms completely overpowered on it. 3) add another mid (ccp seems to be giving tier 3s an extra slot over tier 2)

Yes I should have been more specific. At battleship level 5 it would pull ahead slightly, but at all other levels it does less.

Well, problem is the suggestion you put up does 20% more damage and 50% longer range without a Megathron's fitting problems. At the same time it also makes a better blaster boat, again without any fitting problems what so ever.

Plenty of names to choose from for the Minmatar T3. I would say the most logical one would be:
Typhoon > Tempest > Tornado (see, all T's )
My absolute favorite would be simply "Storm" though

Glad you liked it. I've designed it with counters in mind.. currently there really is no counter to 200+ km sniper except warping out.
On second thought a 20 slot setup and a large drone bay might be too powerfull... drop the drone bay to 100 m3.
It really wouldn't be that powerfull.. with the latest stacking changes, sensor dampeners are not that scary at close ranges (especially if you fit some sensor boosters). And at long range you could dampen maybe 2-3 ships (since you need some mid-slots for sensor boosters as well).
6 low slots provide a semi decent armor tank, but nothing esceptional, while a 4/4 weapons setup allows for a variety of fitting.. since there is no weapon bonus on the ship.
All in all, it's a pure fleet ship.. pretty useless for anything else, but a couple of them would keep a small fleet safe from snipers. ------------------------ I don't believe in sigs. |

Sounds a bit like a gallente T3 phoon Though I guess slightly more useful
