Edited by: Pottsey on 07/04/2006 17:57:10 Please post your Eve tweaks and hidden away options here. Both gameplay and graphic tweaks.
HippoKing pointed out a nice option I missed. Which is right click on the little arrow that shows/hides modules. Then press show "show readout". You now see shield and amour hitpoints precisely. Very useful for certain forms of tanking.
Due to this option and various other tweaks most pilots miss, I have decided to make a website full of them. So any tweaks, hints and tips you think will be useful please post here.

EDIT: Copy of an old post For some reason I have never played around with Gamma settings in the past, yet it makes everything look so much better. Well I guess its personal preference and not everyone will like it but I found turning the default Gamma down from 1 to 0.75 make space look darker and better. It really bought out the lights on the side of ships which where surrounded by darkness. My Helios Covert ops ship was stunning with all its flashing lights.
Depending on the graphic card drivers and graphic card its something along these lines to change the Gamma settings.
Right click on the desktop then left click properties. Press the settings Tab now press advanced. Look for a Colour tab then look for a Gamma slider which should be on 1.00.
For Gefroce useÆs after the advanced button press Geforce xxxx tab. Then click colour correction then slide the Gamma down to 0.75 some people might like 0.65 or 0.85 but I found that looked good but made text hard to read. Anyway experiment and see whatÆs best for you. Running Eve in a window or setting a background wallpaper might make the Gamma setting changeÆs easier to see.
Hopefully this will be useful for someone.

Ctrl + Left click for targeting.
Dropping items on the little cargp icon in your HUD display transfers items to your cargo hold without you actually having it opened.
And you can online/offline items as a means to 'dump' your entire ships capacitor. I've never tried this in practice but it would be a good way of denying an enemy NOS-ship his juice.

You'd need 95% of your cap to do this though - very rare in those kind of situations. ______________________

CTRL-SHIFT-ALT-E = Toggle Effects CTRL-SHIFT-ALT-T = Toggle Turret Animations
It's sometimes helpful to use ESC / Generic / "Merge Ships and Items with Station Panel". That way your items and ships aren't little windows like your cargo hold, but take up the "blank" spot below the station buttons while docked. This really helps you visualize easy what items are you in ship and what's in station. You also can see a lot more, without reducing screen space.
My favorite has to be the "cinematic zoom", as seen in Firefly and Battlestar Gallatica. First hold down the right mouse button and drag off center from your ship. This will point your camera drone away from your ship, hopefully towards your target. Then while still holding rclick down hold down lclick and drag forward to zoom in or backwards to zoom out. It gives the camera drone a "hand held combat reporter" feel and allows massive amounts of zoom. Much nicer then the shift-alt (I think?) click zoom box. -- Lil Miner |

Ahh, I've been looking all over for that. Thanks
BTW, the "combat reporter" effect was used in the B5 movies a lot as well.

Here's a couple:
CTRL + SPACE: stops your ship and cancels warp. ALT + LEFT CLICK: 'look at' shortcut.
Also, depending, TAB can be used to minimise your overview.

If you click out in space, so none of your other windows are active, holding CTRL + ALT will make a funky little 2x magnification window that you can move around with the mouse. If you click somewhere with it, the image in the crosshair sharpens and freezes for a second.
It's wierd, and I don't know what purpose it serves, but I just found it out by accident tonight.

I found that in the genral settings you can click "merge Ship and item window with the station services." So you will find in stations your ship hangar and item hangar to the right, with your agents and guests. I find this very usefull.
ctrl+f to check your FPS, ctrl+alt+shift+m to check everything, thats all I can think of

Always use the ctrl+alt+shift+m to check FPS as ctrl+f monitor will reduce your FPS just by using it.

Set as parent and set as interest...
Three advantages: 1. allows you to hands-free follow targets orbitting, etc 2. works like the old "look at" function, i.e. stays at the target's last position when the target blows up! 3. Allows you to focus on a ship thaty already initiated warp, thus allowing you to spot it's vecotr more precisely (cannot be done as well with the look at function, as it requires looking b4 the target hits "warp to..." button) or name that BS can in that plex full of tiny frig cans :) --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- ---

CTRL+TAB: Removes the GUI to allow for better screen shots and cleaner footage for FRAPS.
CTRL+ENTER: toggles between full screen and desktop/windowed mode. Another great tool when needing quick access to your desktop.
Hand Held Zoom Emulation: Hold RightMouseButton and locate prefered POV. Maintain holding the right button then hold down LeftMouseButton and push mouse forwrd/back for zoom effect. Continue holding right button although release leftButton and redirect POV. Can get some intresting footage when using this with fraps.

Locking starts, and once the target is locked, all guns fire simultaneously.

edit: typo
Another (sometimes better) is activating guns, then clicking self (mouse coursor stops actina as a an autotargetter, so you can select stuff on overview for navigation options without targetting the first thing you click) after actually targetting, the modules will open up as per normal... --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- ---

CTRL + r = reload all :D
You can set up a hotkey to engage autopilot, and a hotkey to undock. Activate AP before activating undock means that you can instantly go to warp (only from certain stations though) if the next system in the AP is in front of the undocking point. Useful if you're in a camped station, but very unuseful if you haven't tested this before, because 50% of the time you're going to end up stuck on the station in a world of pain :D img151.imageshack.us/img151/471/crisissiggy9zg.gif[/IMG] Rovers Chronicles
