Hey, after nearly 3 years of living in EVE I have seen my share of others doing some noobish things. But... we have all been there. What is your favorite noobish thing you ever did?
Here is mine...
While surfing the trade channel back when it was all one channel full of spam orders Tank CEO was trying to buy the F90 Sensor Booster. Ofc this was when Saurum was still a 0.4 and littered with mines. Everyone hated him and noone would sell to him. He was paying top buck for any module anyone would sell to him. So, I thought I had a F90 and convoed him. He was sincere and wanted this module. Hell I didn't even know what it did except a brief recognition that it did something to a signal.
Well he kept asking me if I was sure I would sell it to him and kept asking me if I was jerking his chain. I told him I was on the way. Was to meet him around Amarr and I was in Jurlesel in Everyshore it would take a while. He kept asking me on my trip if I was really coming and was really thankful that I would sell to him.
I didn't give a rats arse... It was 4 mil ISKies and I was in a vex. This would get me enough Iskies to graduate to a 'rax. So after all those slow jumps I finally docked at the station with him. Put the module in the trade window and Tank CEO then asked me what this module was I had. I had goofed. I had the F90 signal amp NOT the booster. LOL. Egg on my face and such a nublet. Needless to say I wasted both our times and made no Iskies. Oh well... atleast the most nefarious pilot in EVE at the time was very polite and didn't work me over with nublet jokes.
Ah.... EVE 2003 where every day was a new day to a nublet. If I was you... I'd run. |

I once lost a ship (either a ferox or a raven) on a level IV. After preaching about using autopilot and alignment to get out quickly... I sat there hammering the large A wondering why I wouldn't warp out.
Guess which CEO forgot to set the autopilot destination. ______________________

Showed some friends my "Indestructable Thorax". They stopped paying attention to me and started doing something else and isntead of paying attention to the game, I tried to get their attention. Then I heard and explosion. My first rax. :(

You haven't graduated from the noob academy until you've done a classic noob mistake like accepting a really long courier agent mission, get to your destination, and realize you forgot to put the package in your ship's cargo hold. _____________________________________________ Member of the Amarr Border Defense Consortium [AMDEF] Curatores Veritatis Alliance // R3-K7K Anti-Pirate Defending Providence with the power of God and |

I was doing an agent mission 150K out from a belt in .4 when a rather red ferox warped into the belt. For some reason I still haven't figured out, I sat there watching as he warped 15km away, quickly joined by some friends of his.

- When remote boosting was still effective, i shot my remote booster ship to obliberation 3x of wich 2 times in a row
- Me and a friend thought we could take on concord, there was one 0.5 system in a series of 0.4 on wich we couldnt go around. We took it upon ourselves to fly threw the 0.5 systems with 2 full geared TII but all stabs in low and both cargoholds full of TII gear and named stuff thinking the stabs would save us. The end result was 2x -10 pods floating around and a ton of gear missing .
theres probaly much more, but this i remember very well.

omg, so true. I have done that before. It really ****ed me off and I had to logout and throw a few chairs. Then, after I regained my composure, I got back online.
Some carebear things I have done:
- mining in a badger - opening somebody elses can in high sec Kisogo SWA - hiting autopilot while leaving station, ang getting stuck - purchased the wrong cruiser (twice)
well that should give you an idea of my initial trial by error approach to EVE.

I once docked on a station that didn't have repair facilities and I was broke. My ship was badly damaged and when I tried to undock it kept saying that my ship was "too badly damaged to be flown on that condition". So I was stuck. Had to petition it.

after mining for what seemed like ages in a vigil i finally bought my first cruiser, a stabber. this was before any ships had mining bonuses and getting 1.2 isk for trit was the norm so it took awhile. thinking i now had a tough ship with more firepower i proceeded to the nearest low sec system and got toasted by the first group of rats i found.
cruiser # 1 popped on maiden voyage.
it was back to mining in the vigil to afford to replace the stabber and after another few long mining sessions i finally had enough. was a bit more careful this time in belts and survived the experience. on way back to station however someone locked me up, i didn't know u could lock someone without it being considered an agressive act and proceeded to shoot at them. sentry guns finished me in one volley.
cruiser # 2 popped on maiden voyage.
needless to say i took more care of cruiser # 3.

Shot some mines that were sitting at a gate once in my shiny new rupture.
Took me several seconds to notice that sentries didn't like that. In fact, I had started firing at a second mine before I noticed it.
Took a few more seconds to explode.
Took a few days for my gf to get over being ****ed at me for losing "her" ship. (I had named it for her.)

Attempting to make my first mission-running battlecruiser (My Laserox, a Laserboat Ferox) with lasers AND active shield tanking. Lasted about 30 seconds.
Then I switched to passive shield tanking and it works suprisingly well. ___________________________________

AFK autopilot haul through 3 consecutive 1.0 systems in Caldari space, while -2.7.
At first I thought I had been suicide-ganked.
Didn't lose much though, I was on my way to buy stuff.

Ouch
Wonder what my most noobish thing would be. Hmm. Maybe attacking an ore thief who was in an Enyo, even though I full well knew I'd get wasted. Cost: Brutix + fittings.

Edited by: dabster on 08/04/2006 21:49:57 omg so many I have...
One that stands out in my head was first jaguar (this when they were new cool and expensive). I figured id try and pop some npc haulers in 0.9..i knew exactly who the sentrys would protect and not..incoming outgoing and all that..
well ahem lets just say that 8 sentryguns in 0.9 pops a jaguar in 1 salvo :/
edit; oh rawr one just came back to me..engaging 2 plated raxes within 2km outside ded x in yulai during a war with BNC, back when they held 8 heavies. I did this in a gankageddon with megapulses i had bought 5 minutes earlier...no i sure as **** didnt win

Gave some guy (pre Exodus) 7 Million ISK so he can "double" my money. I am still wating. Since then I dont trust anybody.
Allowed my GF to drive my Rattlesnake while I was in the bathroom. I came back to a dead Rattlesnake and a kill mail letter from CONCORD. I think she shot at the station or someone, cant be sure.

Bought a mammoth for 40mil. It was in a trade window and it had its name changed to "Mastodon". Spent the next week mining scordite to recoup the cost.
However, having learned from this mistake, I managed to con another scammer. He was offering a cormorant renamed as a ferox. He agreed to trade for a succubus BPC. The deal went ahead.
The succubus BPC had zero runs left on it. Got a free cormorant. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Signatures must be eve related - Laqum Huh? Since when? - ReaperOfSly |
