Hey, after nearly 3 years of living in EVE I have seen my share of others doing some noobish things. But... we have all been there. What is your favorite noobish thing you ever did?
Here is mine...
While surfing the trade channel back when it was all one channel full of spam orders Tank CEO was trying to buy the F90 Sensor Booster. Ofc this was when Saurum was still a 0.4 and littered with mines. Everyone hated him and noone would sell to him. He was paying top buck for any module anyone would sell to him. So, I thought I had a F90 and convoed him. He was sincere and wanted this module. Hell I didn't even know what it did except a brief recognition that it did something to a signal.
Well he kept asking me if I was sure I would sell it to him and kept asking me if I was jerking his chain. I told him I was on the way. Was to meet him around Amarr and I was in Jurlesel in Everyshore it would take a while. He kept asking me on my trip if I was really coming and was really thankful that I would sell to him.
I didn't give a rats arse... It was 4 mil ISKies and I was in a vex. This would get me enough Iskies to graduate to a 'rax. So after all those slow jumps I finally docked at the station with him. Put the module in the trade window and Tank CEO then asked me what this module was I had. I had goofed. I had the F90 signal amp NOT the booster. LOL. Egg on my face and such a nublet. Needless to say I wasted both our times and made no Iskies. Oh well... atleast the most nefarious pilot in EVE at the time was very polite and didn't work me over with nublet jokes.
Ah.... EVE 2003 where every day was a new day to a nublet. If I was you... I'd run. |

I once lost a ship (either a ferox or a raven) on a level IV. After preaching about using autopilot and alignment to get out quickly... I sat there hammering the large A wondering why I wouldn't warp out.
Guess which CEO forgot to set the autopilot destination. ______________________

I was doing an agent mission 150K out from a belt in .4 when a rather red ferox warped into the belt. For some reason I still haven't figured out, I sat there watching as he warped 15km away, quickly joined by some friends of his.

- When remote boosting was still effective, i shot my remote booster ship to obliberation 3x of wich 2 times in a row
- Me and a friend thought we could take on concord, there was one 0.5 system in a series of 0.4 on wich we couldnt go around. We took it upon ourselves to fly threw the 0.5 systems with 2 full geared TII but all stabs in low and both cargoholds full of TII gear and named stuff thinking the stabs would save us. The end result was 2x -10 pods floating around and a ton of gear missing .
theres probaly much more, but this i remember very well.

omg, so true. I have done that before. It really ****ed me off and I had to logout and throw a few chairs. Then, after I regained my composure, I got back online.
Some carebear things I have done:
- mining in a badger - opening somebody elses can in high sec Kisogo SWA - hiting autopilot while leaving station, ang getting stuck - purchased the wrong cruiser (twice)
well that should give you an idea of my initial trial by error approach to EVE.

I once docked on a station that didn't have repair facilities and I was broke. My ship was badly damaged and when I tried to undock it kept saying that my ship was "too badly damaged to be flown on that condition". So I was stuck. Had to petition it.

after mining for what seemed like ages in a vigil i finally bought my first cruiser, a stabber. this was before any ships had mining bonuses and getting 1.2 isk for trit was the norm so it took awhile. thinking i now had a tough ship with more firepower i proceeded to the nearest low sec system and got toasted by the first group of rats i found.
cruiser # 1 popped on maiden voyage.
it was back to mining in the vigil to afford to replace the stabber and after another few long mining sessions i finally had enough. was a bit more careful this time in belts and survived the experience. on way back to station however someone locked me up, i didn't know u could lock someone without it being considered an agressive act and proceeded to shoot at them. sentry guns finished me in one volley.
cruiser # 2 popped on maiden voyage.
needless to say i took more care of cruiser # 3.

Shot some mines that were sitting at a gate once in my shiny new rupture.
Took me several seconds to notice that sentries didn't like that. In fact, I had started firing at a second mine before I noticed it.
Took a few more seconds to explode.

well ahem lets just say that 8 sentryguns in 0.9 pops a jaguar in 1 salvo :/
edit; oh rawr one just came back to me..engaging 2 plated raxes within 2km outside ded x in yulai during a war with BNC, back when they held 8 heavies. I did this in a gankageddon with megapulses i had bought 5 minutes earlier...no i sure as **** didnt win

Bought a mammoth for 40mil. It was in a trade window and it had its name changed to "Mastodon". Spent the next week mining scordite to recoup the cost.
However, having learned from this mistake, I managed to con another scammer. He was offering a cormorant renamed as a ferox. He agreed to trade for a succubus BPC. The deal went ahead.
The succubus BPC had zero runs left on it. Got a free cormorant. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Signatures must be eve related - Laqum Huh? Since when? - ReaperOfSly |

hmm what have i done.... well
I lost a zealot on it's maiden voyage. To cruiser NPCs in a complex (I was scrambled! ... )
I lost (somebody else's) crusader on its first flight after I took on a punisher and lost (though the nice guy let me go...), then warped to a gate. Edit: and I get it ripped out of me every day about this.
Lost my taranis to a cormorant (a well-piloted cormorant, at that (forgetting to check pilot info ftl (A 2-year old character in a cormorant is not a 'n00b'))); I saw a cormorant following me, and I thought "HAH! A ****y destroyer Vs my uber 'ceptor!". Bye-bye brand-new taranis.

Probably the most common story which is travelling AFK through low sec.
Another funny story when I was travelling through low sec and warped to a gate. When I came out of warp I saw a Megathron being boosted by a Scorpion. Uh oh, sniper. I make an about turn and warped to another planet when my shuttle lost half of its armor.
I go "Phew, safe!" except my shuttle turned around and started to accelerate to warp back to the gate. Noticed I forgot to turn my auto-pilot off. I frantically tried to stop my shuttle but to no avail, it took off to the gate. Five seconds later it got popped by the megathron.
One more story. I like to keep my list of assets limited to a couple of stations, which means I usually trash my shuttles when I get to a ship that I bought.
So I was transporting this shiny new X5 Prototype Stasis Webifier to my brand new Arbitrator. Get in, start kitting out my Arbitrator and cleaning up my list of assets by trashing useless stuff. Well, after a while I decided to fit the last module I needed for my Arbitrator which was the X5 Prototype Stasis Webifier.
I checked my item hanger, not there, checked my Arbitrator's cargohold, it isn't there either. I then thought I left it behind and checked for my assets across the entire eveverse. I couldn't find it!
"Well," I thought to myself, "It must be in that shuttle then, now where di-oh crap, I trashed it."

The following event took place a mere 4 days ago.. so im top of the latest n00b tables
Leaving a mission before it had finished.. whilst in .4 space.
Thinking mission was over >> fast frig >> pick up remains .. whoops more cruisers
Back into raven (minus any core stabilizers.. will become apparent in a little while ) to finish them off >> all gone .. time to get the remains
But unfortunately some rather mean 's decided to snipe me and warp to me before i could get out of there
Bye bye raven.. i 1st thought there was something wrong with the mission ie why were there still cruisers there lol but the powers of the n00b work in strange ways .
Total costs: 1x Raven + Insurance of new raven + general losses for cargo = 40m ISK (est)
Being a n00b after playing for nearly a year..... PRICELESS

I put on an okay tank setup, went to a belt with around 5 cruiser and 5 frigates spawn. They started attacking and my tank was okay, but not that good. Could handle the cruisers though. Anyways, I tried to warp out but I was being scrambled. No corp mates were nearby, so alls I could do was sit there and watch my raven die over a period of 23 minutes. ahhahahah

Back when missles did splash damage and you could ram someone so hard that they spun like a top, I was fighting someone outside a station. Fired the cruise missles, the other guy hit the MWD right towards me. The cruise missles hit him, splashed station and then he rammed me setting my poor ship in a spin that it never recovered from. I was warned not to use missle near a station but NOOOO, I knew better than everyone else.

- largest mistake: quitting EVE for over a year and coming back. I should have never quit in the first place.
- mining for hours as a newbie in my Bantam, should have just done missions.
- I had just bought a Caracal and was messing around at a belt testing out the heavy missiles. My friend came over and I went AFK to talk to him, but I forgot to warp out. I still had my Ferox to fall back on, but it was the first real ship I ever lost.
- And back when it was next to impossible to find a research slot I had purchased some ammo BPOs but there were no research slots avaliable.

My noob moment.
Having mined for a week, and saved and saved, I finally got the minerals for a tempy, took delivery of said ship, and decided to go missioning on L3s... those that my lowly Cyclone had been managing....
Black Market Hub. level 2, full 1400s fitted... warp in..... yes they are all close range......
Scrambled, webbed and with no idea what a tank was with a load of heavies and 1400s..... I couldnt hit the farm never mind a barn door......
not nice waiting 5 minutes for this 100 mill ship to die.... slowly... with nothing you can do about it......

My n00biest moment was in beta though, mining Arkonor in a Repear with Basic Miner for 6 hours, hauling 5 units a time to station in the little bugger. Refined it, sold it for 0.001isk - yes, market scammers were around even then!

"Hmm, I'm right on the gate, over a minute's gone by, be quicker to just jump than align for a safe!"
Two entirely wrong beliefs fuelled this move. Firstly, I thought the sentries in the new system would not have "seen" me be naughty and would leave me alone. Secondly, I didn't even consider the possibility that the destination system might be high sec.
"Hmm, what's that concord fleet there for? Oh well."
Uncloak with an aim of warping to a safe, boom.
".... OOOOOH I see." |

Noobiest moment?
The moment I started pirating in empire, thinking I would get fun fights or make some ISK in the process.

Going Pirating in 0.4... killing a few ships... moving over a system and finding 2 barges and 3 Bcs mining happily away with no escort...
<activates disruptor, warps in friend in a hac>
Then suddenly my ship explodes instantly. ;)

Originally by: Meeko Gloom sheild tanking my rax with lasers guns
Cost: First cruiser
2 weeks ago I was doing some target practice in my mega, with a RACK OF PROTO 425MM on and fired on a can by mistake, concord showed up and dealt with me.
Cost: Mega, 7 425mm proto's and full Tech II sniper gear
Several times I buy things on escrow without see the location
Was testing my plexrunnig proto t2 snip'a'thron in myyhera (0.5) and locked some random can to check out the tractor beam! Only realised the rat that was locked earlier didn't get that painter kicked in on him, when concord said: "must NOt paint the canz!" The can wasn't my corporation's, so I couldn't even tractor it --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- ---

Hmm, where to start....
> Undocking, finding a target, closing the distance, scramble him, press fire, and notice you forgot to buy ammo; > Being so drunk you forget you're at a gate and engage someone; > Finding a really good deal on a ship and accept the Escrow only to find out the item is 50+ jumps down in 0.0 space; > Warping to a station flagged/undocking your new ship while flagged/etc. > Forgetting to switch of my guns while initiating a ransom (paid back though); > many more.

Mouse had been acting wierd for a few days... left clicked at random times =) anyway..
1: Locked a freind just to play about well aware 0.6 is concordes turf.. then I passed my mouse over a NOS.. and I was pwnd by concorde... LOLing, ROFL, I docked and jumped into my Harpy, the first one I got and undocked... Enter Concorde, LOL ends.
2: First gatecamp in 0.0 Get my T2 cruise raven into possition and I feel like I can pwn whatever heads here.. Got backup at the gate and other snipers here. Ready for anything. Then nothing happens for a long while... I open up TS and tamper a bit w my settings. Then I see a flash in the background (that is in the Eve window). Raven is gone and my Pod is locked...pwnt
3: Got a new Harpy, friend got a new Taranis. He locks me outside station and I lock back. Open fire just to take his sheilds.. Deactivate my guns..they don't respond...uhoh... Armor is gone on buddys ranis.. They all deactivate as he pops.
