I pre-purchased X:R, and when I finally got it delivered, it was a totally unplayable bugfest. I too wanted to like it, but I couldn't get over the fact that it was a poorly made console game that was ported to PC. It took many patches and many restarts of the campaign before I could even get halfway through without a major bug breaking it. Several times I found myself hunting through the .xml files to bypass one broken mechanic after another. I haven't played it for quite awhile now... I keep seeing patchnotes come through on my notifications..so hopefully one day when Im bored, ill give it another try and itll work. Until then, Ill keep playing Eve, even though its clearly dead, and regret the time I cheated on it with the semi-console flopfest that killed it.
This... almost mirrors my experience with it. Wow, I'm not alone.

Isk(instead) for posting isn't such a bad idea. Perhaps start at 1m then have a downward sliding scale to encourage more fees.
But back to the topic at hand, I am looking forward to 2015, 2016, or maybe 2020 when this game is released. Until then, we will have to make do with forum discussions.
Notice how the SC guys assume we will be bumping their mining ships with small ships. I was thinking we'd bring the largest ships instead and do a bit of SC bowling. See Bio for isk doubling rules. If you didn't read bio, chances are you funded those who did. |

I've seen something similar any time someone talks about a game they have preordered when they only have the devs word on what the released game will be like.
The more the game was hyped, the worse it got.
BrundleMeth wrote:Today is the first time I took a look at SC. Sure ok, the graphics are nice. But people are actually giving money, lots of money for a game that isn't even out yet? Seems crazy to me.
Especially after the false advertising that was Aliens: Colonial Marines. Never preorder a video game.
Kickstarters can be justified because the game might not come out if the KS fails. But it also has a far higher risk of not being what was promised.
Jenn aSide wrote:In other words , SWTOR and Star Trek Online (STO) all over again. STO specifically is everything 'they' say they want, walking around on/in things, no non-consensual pvp, no real losing stuff when you 'die', "griefers banned for life on the 1st offense" (or even thinking about the 1st offense lol) and so on. Loudly did some leave for a 'better game', quietly did they slink back when they came to realize that they only;y thought they wanted to be super safe and away from the 'griefers', because those griefers and the dangers of EVE give their game play meaning.....
Having a decent carebear internet spaceship game will be an advantage for the gameplay we like from Eve: - Players who actually want a carebear internet spaceship game will leave Eve for that game. - Players who think they want one will try it out, realise that it isn't what they want, then come back to Eve with a better perspective. In both cases, they will stop asking CCP to make Eve safer. So CCP won't be tempted to listen to them. |

I thought SC could be cool, that maybe eve did have stuff to fear... then I looked at it more and realized.. no, eve has nothing to fear. We will lose some people sure, but from what I am looking at, SC is NOTHING like eve.
The pvp slider alone made me go huh?
That you can either face a player or an AI and not tell the difference... really? you won't be able to tell the difference... right...
That its random if you will get a fight
Not one server
The death mechanic is... odd... I get it.. kinda, but tis still odd.
I do like the possibility of no skill points just jump in a ship and go... but tat still feels weird.
Real physics and things sounds like an uber lag fest waititng to happen.
It does look pretty, and has some nifty things, but all in all, it sounds like wow in space. Which is fine if you like that sorta thing. That or a huge scam for money.
Anyway, i'll try it, might as well, but it sounds more like EnB, which was a fun game but nothing like eve, then something that will hurt eve in the long run. I'll have to read yoru thread after work for the lawls |

Love it how these SC people think there will be no way no how that someone will be able to AFK mine in their game, if it ever comes out.
Botters will always figure out a way to bot, its what they do. Thinking otherwise is delusional.

They also seem to think collision damage will only affect bumping ships and not the ship being bumped. I was reading that you may be able to target specific parts of the ship. I'd like to see a cheap small ship kamikaze their thrusters, or a small gang just wreck one.
This is going to be fun exploring all sorts of game mechanics and the conventional wisdom over there.
Regardless, they seem really mad about everything involving player interaction. See Bio for isk doubling rules. If you didn't read bio, chances are you funded those who did. |

I'm eagerly looking forward to the sc launch as I too would like to bring the love of New Eden to the natives of star citizen.
We should launch a campaign to ensure that gate camps and ganking are the norm everywhere in sc, though I am naturally disappointed with the talk of pvp sliders and flags, which is why I think elite dangerous may well be a much more fitting playground for us as elite has always been more hardcore in tone. Botters will always figure out a way to bot, its what they do. Thinking otherwise is delusional. There is a difference between botters and AFKers. Botters are using out of game tools to automate their in game activity. AFKers are using in-game tools to automate their in-game activity.
Not much of a different though.
If SC does have a mining system that prevents AFK mining, then it becomes a matter of convincing CCP to copy it to end AFK mining in Eve. Unless it's something silly like 'mining' in Freelancer.

I'm not sure, all I ready was "your ships will have real physics and the server will be doing minute calculations to your position, like little thrusters will be going off to keep you stable..." All I hear is "a lot of ships together = lag" |

Sorry don't mean to hijack, two more issues I having... gods the more I learn about SC the more I just wanna laugh. (holy hell, 10 years of eve has jaded me to other games...)
1) "We will just pay pirates to defend us.." uh what? Pirates would want to kill you... hence the word 'pirate'. Also with the stupid slider, a pirate prolly would not see someone mining with there slider set 0 pvp...
2) "Oh we will just set a high bounty and that will take care of it..." I seriously want to laugh. Not that eve's bounty system is perfect, or really strong... ok it still has issues, but that is seriously just funny.

You can only have one forum character but unlimited in-game characters, so I guess I won't be offering ship trading services and honest investment funds on the forums under different characters.
But they seem to completely miss the fact that we can use our Eve-trained out of the box thinking to handle any game mechanic or rule. For instance, what's to stop our pirate corps from ganking ships and allowing our high sec alts scoop the loot? Even if scooping loot raises a suspect flag, we can just use pirate characters to scoop, then immediately jetcan to an alt or at a nearby station.
I wasn't going to say it publicly, but I would very much like to organize such fun activities. I totally agree we should gate camp them into highsec with pirates and haul the loot with our honourable citizens, perhaps in a convoy lol
It doesn't matter so much who runs everything- perhaps just an alliance or coalition of sorts, but guys we have got to get a bunch of Eve guys together to share the joys of the sandbox with millions of SC players in some sort of organized fashion. See Bio for isk doubling rules. If you didn't read bio, chances are you funded those who did. |

Even if the developers want to create a carebear game, you're still doing everyone a favour by showing off every way the mechanics work in your favour at launch, you make the issue so public that the devs have to either kill those mechanics and let everyone know it's a carebear game, or let the mechanics stand and let everyone know it isn't a carebear game.
Either way, you are forcing the devs to show the truth through their actions so that people who don't like the direction the devs choose won't waste their money on SC. |
