I have officially announced on the Star Citizen forums that I will be bringing all of joys of Eve to their universe as well.
Please join me in this noble quest as we remind everyone who rage quit Eve that we are bringing the sandbox with us. See Bio for isk doubling rules. If you didn't read bio, chances are you funded those who did. |

We genuinely wanted to say hi and plant our flag upon their forum.
We all know that Star Citizen will kill Eve, just as X:Rebirth did.... so it only makes sense to start spreading goodwill and friendship over there as well before were forced to move there permanently due to shuttered servers.

I only hope that their moderators and in-game people will ban as many griefers as possible before they can get a toehold in that game. I don't even know if I will play it, but if some of the groups that we have in Eve get established in SC, that can spell the doom for a new game.
Still, if CCP had any brains, maybe they would take notice that Roberts has 39 million bucks committed by people on the chance that he can put together a good game.
I wonder how much of that is from people who are sick of the way that Eve has devolved.
Oh, and I give this thread about 2 more hours of life. Most people viewed Orwell's writings as a warning. The harper regime and the goons treat them as a guidebook. |

Today is the first time I took a look at SC. Sure ok, the graphics are nice. But people are actually giving money, lots of money for a game that isn't even out yet? Seems crazy to me.
Even IF and thats a big IF, the game is a success and even better than EVE, I have way too much time and effort already in EVE that there is no way I'll abandon it to play something else...Besides... I luv playing EVE... |

So far I have received 2 moderator actions with no explanation. I have asked for details but no responses. The first was being muted in the thread. The second is saying that bio's cannot even have an appearance to being a scam. They still seem to be researching where any rules have been remotely violated.
Interestingly, I cannot even update my bio from a mobile device (need more money for that I guess) though they give people a checkmark box to share their personal email address with the public... a disaster waiting to happen.
While the guy behind it is an industry great, their community so far seems very jaded from the start. So many comments over there are essentially "Eve players are mean, I came here to play Hello Kitty Internet Spaceship Themepark Online." One of those says he was a BoB founder. I did giggle when I saw a post saying that Guiding Hand Social Club will be paying SC a visit. See Bio for isk doubling rules. If you didn't read bio, chances are you funded those who did. |

Well so far the attitudes over there by the Eve refuges and moderators are that of carebear slippery slope. It's a shame that such an awesome game designer could be led down that path. I Hope not- I'm rooting for them.
That said, it looks like Chribba, Erotica 1, Psychotic Monk, and other pillars of the Eve community may face an uphill battle making the game decent and remotely sandbox related. See Bio for isk doubling rules. If you didn't read bio, chances are you funded those who did. |

While I support adding some of the chaos of Eve to SC, it just isn't going to happen. SC is being designed along the WoW model of not letting anything bad happen to the special snowflakes. It appears to be a space carebear paradise where miners will be free to AFK/bot mine. It will also have WiS. I'm sure many Eve players will give it a try. I think that many of the hardcore Eve carebears will love it. They will quit Eve and go play SC. In a few months, they will be bored of SC's themepark and quit that too. If we're all lucky they will come back to Eve after realizing what made it special to them. They might even comeback as "industrialists" and "pvpers" instead of as carebears. I know violence isn't the answer. I got it wrong on purpose. |

In other words , SWTOR and Star Trek Online (STO) all over again. STO specifically is everything 'they' say they want, walking around on/in things, no non-consensual pvp, no real losing stuff when you 'die', "griefers banned for life on the 1st offense" (or even thinking about the 1st offense lol) and so on. Loudly did some leave for a 'better game', quietly did they slink back when they came to realize that they only;y thought they wanted to be super safe and away from the 'griefers', because those griefers and the dangers of EVE give their game play meaning.....
Deep down they are all like thought you know. Dinsdale (for example) would be nothing without the goons and the even nulluminati economic RMT cartels.
The bold part has never happened and will never happen lol. Bears gonna Bear. EVE survives because it exposes players to the raw (and sometimes nasty) reality of human interaction and competition.
The makers of SC aren't going to allow that to happen (and it's not a bad choice IMO, not every game has to do the same things). I gave them money and will play it because I loved wing commander, but it won't be anything like EVE.

I loved Privateer and hope this goes in the direction of sandbox Privateer, Wing Commander, etc, without concern over profits/mass market, which is supposedly the argument for going to players for money in the first place. I've long stated the case for a player funded game well before this whole SC started, so I still have some hope. Though I find it funny that you can send $10k or more and still not have a single share, just some shiny in game assets.
Even if this does turn out to be some silly themepark, I was reading that you can discover new gates/systems and name them as well as sell the coordinates to other players...
Just being able to name a gate such things as "Eve Gate," The Mittani Gate," etc may well be worth trying it out...
Plus, it'll be a new market with lots of people who have not yet experienced all the joys we have in the Eve market. See Bio for isk doubling rules. If you didn't read bio, chances are you funded those who did. |

As for miner bumping in SC - there is collision damage and if SC devs have even a bit of common sense they'll allow to attack bumping ships in secure zones. I'm so going to answer miners' distress calls in my free-to-pop LTI ships! \o/
P.S. Malcolm Shinhwa is correct - SC is going to be carebear-only game like Star Trek Online but with better graphics. CIG want money and PvP will scare away 3/4 customers. |

Actually, two good theads.
I'm jealous of the black and white eve avatar you have over there. You guys are all lookin' rather classy.
I'm not so sure how I feel about this "pvp slider" and "you won't be able to tell npcs from players" and "instancing" and "matchmaking." Also, permanent ship insurance for early investors is troublesome.
They also have this whole notion that miners will have guns and that people in combat ships will sit around babysitting them. It could be a case of serious naivete. I wish I'd learned about Eve first, would have saved the money. I know violence isn't the answer. I got it wrong on purpose. |

I have noticed this as well. There seems to be a crapton of immersion breaking invisible walls in the game design. To anyone who is genuinely interested in up and coming sandbox experience, I recommend The Repopulation. It's creator has cited numerous design influences to Ultima Online (all praise be) and Star Wars Galaxies (pre ruined version), as well as our own EVE Online. To me, it shows considerable promise. the moment you said, pre-ruined SWG, i gotta take a look at this (though, by pre-ruined, do you mean before Combat Upgrade, or before the "NGE"? pre-nge was still fun, but IMO CU was the first ruin-ation [bleh im not a dictionary])

To be fair, I do think they are entitled to a release date, despite some threads saying otherwise. As tempting as it is to spend up to $10,000 or more so that I could get some in game ships and blueprints, I think I'll wait and see what I can acquire via game mechanics if and when this thing comes out. Let EVE be EVE and let SC be SC.
I play whatever strikes my fancy at any given time. I am notorious for real life ganking me out of playing EVE for a while at a time. I wanted to play X-Rebirth, but it quite frankly sucked.
If SC ever comes out, I'll play that too. But the kind of player that I am doesn't really change based on what game I play. I behaved much the same when I played UO, too.
And that's what I guess is part of all of this. People who have no place except EVE want to be welcome in more places. And Star Citizen seems as though it curtails a large part of that kind of experience, and they want to weigh in and say "hey, we have things we want too".
It's just a matter of putting the point of view out there. Because frankly, their community is a flippin' echo chamber right now. Not posting on my main, and loving it.-á Because free speech.-á |

The more the game was hyped, the worse it got.

Especially after the false advertising that was Aliens: Colonial Marines. Never preorder a video game.
Kickstarters can be justified because the game might not come out if the KS fails. But it also has a far higher risk of not being what was promised.

Loudly did some leave for a 'better game', quietly did they slink back when they came to realize that they only;y thought they wanted to be super safe and away from the 'griefers', because those griefers and the dangers of EVE give their game play meaning.....
Having a decent carebear internet spaceship game will be an advantage for the gameplay we like from Eve: - Players who actually want a carebear internet spaceship game will leave Eve for that game. - Players who think they want one will try it out, realise that it isn't what they want, then come back to Eve with a better perspective. In both cases, they will stop asking CCP to make Eve safer. So CCP won't be tempted to listen to them. |

That you can either face a player or an AI and not tell the difference... really? you won't be able to tell the difference... right...
That its random if you will get a fight

I do like the possibility of no skill points just jump in a ship and go... but tat still feels weird.

It does look pretty, and has some nifty things, but all in all, it sounds like wow in space. Which is fine if you like that sorta thing. That or a huge scam for money.

Not much of a different though.
If SC does have a mining system that prevents AFK mining, then it becomes a matter of convincing CCP to copy it to end AFK mining in Eve. Unless it's something silly like 'mining' in Freelancer.

Sorry don't mean to hijack, two more issues I having... gods the more I learn about SC the more I just wanna laugh. (holy hell, 10 years of eve has jaded me to other games...)
1) "We will just pay pirates to defend us.." uh what? Pirates would want to kill you... hence the word 'pirate'. Also with the stupid slider, a pirate prolly would not see someone mining with there slider set 0 pvp...
2) "Oh we will just set a high bounty and that will take care of it..." I seriously want to laugh. Not that eve's bounty system is perfect, or really strong... ok it still has issues, but that is seriously just funny.

You can only have one forum character but unlimited in-game characters, so I guess I won't be offering ship trading services and honest investment funds on the forums under different characters.
But they seem to completely miss the fact that we can use our Eve-trained out of the box thinking to handle any game mechanic or rule. For instance, what's to stop our pirate corps from ganking ships and allowing our high sec alts scoop the loot? Even if scooping loot raises a suspect flag, we can just use pirate characters to scoop, then immediately jetcan to an alt or at a nearby station.
I wasn't going to say it publicly, but I would very much like to organize such fun activities. I totally agree we should gate camp them into highsec with pirates and haul the loot with our honourable citizens, perhaps in a convoy lol
It doesn't matter so much who runs everything- perhaps just an alliance or coalition of sorts, but guys we have got to get a bunch of Eve guys together to share the joys of the sandbox with millions of SC players in some sort of organized fashion. Not something I'd call mining.

Even if the developers want to create a carebear game, you're still doing everyone a favour by showing off every way the mechanics work in your favour at launch, you make the issue so public that the devs have to either kill those mechanics and let everyone know it's a carebear game, or let the mechanics stand and let everyone know it isn't a carebear game.
Either way, you are forcing the devs to show the truth through their actions so that people who don't like the direction the devs choose won't waste their money on SC. |

By the way guys, they get really mad when we use Eve terminology. Can someone go ahead and make a Star Citizen wiki, but instead of the terms they want us to use, make those secondary terms to Eve's. For example, high sec, tackling, awox, etc.
I'd love if new players start using phrases such as "haha, that ganker got Concorded," with SC bitterbackervets raging over the terminology that gets accepted by the broad playerbase. See Bio for isk doubling rules. If you didn't read bio, chances are you funded those who did. |

Even some of the EVE bears have picked up how to survive in a dangerous universe and think creatively. If there is one thing that this playerbase does it is that - think creatively, and often, diabolically.
If their economy is run by players then an EVE player will have control of it before a year is out.

One other point of comedy, for me, is this: In SC they yammer on about having a ship crewed by players, superior player controlled gun mounts, coordination, yadda yadda.
Really, and what happens when one or more of your crew has worse latency than you (often), loses connection to the server (also common), or a bug pops up that puts a crew out of sync with each other and the ship?

I thought the same. When they move threads to "off topic" only people who give them cash can post. You can probably still post in most sections. They only allow one forum account. If you make 2, they will ban them all and ask you to pick the one you want to use.

Guys, guys... lets think about this...
The majority of the players who are yammering on about this multi-person crewed ship of death idea are people who couldn't even hack it in highsec in eve. And if weve learned one thing about highsec, getting people to band together and cooperate in the first place is like herding cats. Team that with the latency and bug issues mentioned above.... and we have a recipe for hilarity.

On opening day, I expect you will be able to detect the Eve players right away, by the flaming wreckage surrounding their victorious ships on the undocks..or whatever it is they plan to use. The chat channels will be filled with the tears of the unprepared and uninitiated, and flag of New Eden will be firmly planted betwixed the buttocks of the Star Citizen universe. Get Monk and a friend, both gunners on separate ships. Leading to them exploiting a lot of confusion of 'he shot us, meaning he's an enemy who infiltrated our fleet'.

Lets be honest. Since I haven't seen boarding parties or multi-person ship control videos yet - I'm not holding my breath.
The bit that has me laughing is the amount of forum posts talking about 'immersion.' The evils of the 3rd person camera, and the want for piracy - but not wanting any meaningful negative consequence for pirates or for their targets.
I also enjoy the blatent: EvE has no tactical depth and no story. This screams of "I love themepark games because I'm too lazy or boring to make my own content."
Edit: I love all these ships with mannable turrets. Who wants to sit in a space fight and NOT be flying a spaceship? Insanity. |

Great reference, I still don't think that they wanted to get in a firefight?

That alone I find funny. So you are telling me I can join up with a buddy and I sit there, waiting for something to do, while he flys me around looking for stuff to shoot?!? And people are ok with this idea and think its cool? what? |

I'm having an enlightening chat with the SC guys.
One was kind enough to link me this guide (nicknamed the big scam). Most just trolled me.
https://forums.robertsspaceindustries.com/discussion/79442/the-big-star-citizen-admirer-s-manual-100-page-long-22-000-word-manual-on-everything-star-citize/p1
Speaking of scams, I asked if scams would be against the rules. A forum moderator had previously told me that scams are against the rules for breaking the "common sense" rule. The rule he cited mentioned nothing about what he was talking about. I read through all the forum rules and eula and found nothing at all that makes scams against the rules. Furthermore, the company's language treated in-game assets just as CCP does- they own it, we do not. Now, I am not a lawyer, so if I missed something in the rules, chime in!
In my chat with these players, they said all sorts of things, few citing any actual documentation whatsoever, just stating their opinions as though they are facts.
I asked, well blowing ships up and murdering their captains in game may be considered bad as well. "Oh that's different" I was told.
I'll read this "big book" which is written by a player who has documented official videos and writings. But so far, I see tons of people just making **** up and passing it along as fact. See Bio for isk doubling rules. If you didn't read bio, chances are you funded those who did. |

Haha so the player base says you can be evil but just don't resort to trickery.
I also noticed on their Corporation creation page one of the activities is "Infiltration". How does that work if you cant lie, be deceitful and use trickery? People, who talk, don't know. People, who know, don't talk.

Couple problems with your premises.
1. In SC ships dont drop loot. None. Go ahead, bring your secure space alts.
2. There are no jetcans.
3. 90% of inhabitants of the SC universe are NPC's. Bumpers will be hard pressed to even find a miner since they will have their sliders set to PVE.
4. Captains cant be murdered. There is no mutiny.
5. Mining will be a hands on profession. No AFK miners since they will be actively involved in mining.

You do realize you have to actually fly the ship right. And to board a ship you have to disable it without destroying it. You need to disable each individual thruster and bring it to a stop first.
You also realize of course that it will be Orgs flying those capital ships with actual players manning the controls and flying sortes in their own ships. Of course you do...:)

It might be that the people in SC are in for a rude awakening. I read that while frowned on you can easily murder pods. and so what if the UEE or whatever comes to there aid, we eve players have experience with concord, so seriously once the mechanics are figured out you will see suicide ganking, jump camping, and random theft. Unless this is a 100% theme park rail type game, if there is any leeway towards real pvp and piracy you can bet eve players who have experience will utilize it to the full potential. And i can;t believe i am going to say this cause i think the code is stupid... but Citizens will eventually bend to the code. And even if the ships don;t drop anything, which would defeat the whole point of piracy... it will still be fun to make people cry. And i plan on saying 'EvE sends it regards" to every SC i kill. |

which sounds boring as hell, i really want to sit around while my ceo flies me all over the place.. great. But i digress, as is said in the SC forums, 'everything is subject to change' and if there is an eject feature, you may not need to destroy anything, just hold a ship with enough firepower to make the people bail. and i am sure as jita grows, we have 2 years (2015 prolly the end of , if thats the actual date...it) to prepare. |

ROFL.. the code is meaningless. We will simply say no to any ransom demand. This has already been discusses ad nauseum in the community. At that point you will have two choices...leave... or try to shoot us. And since no loot drops from SC ships yuou will go away empty handed.
It will cost you in repairs and reputation. A precious commodity in SC.
So, come on over big guy. With our PVE sliders, the only thing you will ever see is NPC's and they dont give a damn about your code.

It takes your slider, and mine, and then does a dice roll. so for example if i am 10 full on pvp and you are 0 no pvp the pc will rolly a dice, if it lands on 20 i see you, if not i see npc's. Thats how it works. PVP is not 100% avoided. just less likely. Which makes me laugh that people think this will kill eve but i digress again |

The slider is part of the match making system, and that system is modified by the slider settings. Also the slider doesnt work in lawless space so you wont be finding most of us anyway, since we will be in secure space.
The people you will find are very experienced pilots in full HOTAS setups just waiting for someone to wander by. You kknow, SC pirates.

except if what you say is true.. there will be no pirates. Cause if you don;t get loot form poping a ship (which according to the forums you will get something from salvaging a wreck, but that's still being worked out) and it will be a pita to dock/damage a ship enough to steal it.. then you won;t have pirates. you will have people who will just want to blow your ass back to the medical facility. or capture your pod. which they can do instead as well. Working within the mechanic, i'm sure there will be ways to kill HS players. But if not, then other things will happen, otherwise as i said SC sounds like wow in space.

Out of a few hundred thousand, perhaps millions, you think they will all say no to ransoms because a few guys in the forums said that? Without ransoms and loot drops, there is little point to piracy... except for the fact that the company has outright stated that non-consensual pvp will be allowed and expected in all space and that pirates will be shooting merchants for... wait for it... the cargo.
As I have pointed out ad nauseam over in SC forums, there is a huge misperception that we will all be flying our mains around with no alts whatsoever, so we will fail miserably and hate the game.
A game with no skill training and unlimited alts is a suicide ganking paradise. Sure, we'll have to crunch some numbers, examine mechanics, and pour over the rules, but I have a strong feeling we will be the only ones doing so. The others will just be crying.
Now before someone tries to quote me yet again as trying to "grief" or "harass" the dear SC community, nothing could be further from the truth. We simply want to play in the same sandbox and will just do it better. See Bio for isk doubling rules. If you didn't read bio, chances are you funded those who did. |

exactly, unless there is zero pvp without consent then things will be worked out. 'Pirates' do not exist unless they get money. 'Pirates' do not protect merchants... and if there are no 'pirates' then you would not need to protect merchants. |

Still not getting it are you...heh.
SC is designed to allow piracy and even griefing, but it is also designed to make you not want to do it. Thats the fundamental difference between SC and Eve.
The designers dont want to force people not to PVP so they are going to give you plenty of reasons not to.
We eagerly await your arrival. |

Me too. For many reasons, some ironic.
*edit*
By the way, I got my first SC mail from a guy over there interested in EVE. He played EVE off and on a couple times and was looking for advice if he comes back. I typed up a longass mail and offered him some possible no-strings-attached starting funds (1 plex) if he decides to give it a go. Oh, and he said he wanted to learn to make isk like I do.
It's actually a really nice mail that I'd love to have posted on some popular EVE online fansite, but I may ask if he's okay with it. After all, I'm building bridges of sorts. See Bio for isk doubling rules. If you didn't read bio, chances are you funded those who did. |

That's fantastic! You just cant beat the draw of a game where the hangars are functional, the space is usable, the fighting is point and click and the mining permits are only 10mil ISK. God Bless Eve Online. Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings? |

After all "common sense" is what tells you the sun rotates around the earth, not the perfect tool when you are banhammering your customers.
It seams to me that there is a big junk of the SC community with some white knight ambitions who fail to understand thet there will be nothing to "white knight" if you deny any basis for piracy or ambitious businessmen like us. No one will waste any time with a playstyle if there is no monetary or other gameplay incentive, except the New Order of course, we will most likely attempt to save the game anyway.

Indeed, highsec is worth saving in both games. I can't help but wonder if Ledrian is sowing the seeds of discontent among rebels in SC. The game is PvA, with a focus on PvE

This said, there be zones that is lawless, and pretty much anything goes, shooting pods will most likely still give you rep hits... but beside that, your free to PvP to your hearts content in these lawless zones.
Then for the actual ingame rules, hasent been stated yet, but forums and chat are under a "be good" rule... and violating that may get you banned !, feel free to behave badly ;P |

Remains to be seen, as we dont know exactly what precousions and consequence factors will be in the game once it goes live... all we know is, that if any style gets out of hand, they will "fix it"... ie they will be hands on ! |

Their forums are actually full of all sorts of foul language, so this "be good" rule must be very... interesting in application. There's also quotes about how nonconsensual pvp will not be something you can avoid.
It was really adorable all of the comments about pirates being able to attack each other away from the good citizens who will be protected by cops, their own fearsome weaponary strapped to mining barges, and all of these bad guys they will hire to protect them. Especially when the devs say that you will want to protect your hauling ships cause they will be juicy targets lol
It's almost as if every playstyle group is being told exactly what they want to hear to raise ever increasing amounts of money.
Now, that's the cynical view. My personal view is that no one really knows what the hell this game will look like outside of some broad guidelines until it is released. See Bio for isk doubling rules. If you didn't read bio, chances are you funded those who did. |
