I want to skill up for a command ship, I really like the BC class *(can't wait for the tier2 ones).
Anyway - are they honestly worth it? As far as I can tell the BC class is the closest one to a BS. Not to say that a BS is an I-win-button, mind you, simply that - from the looks of the forums, a properly skilled BS pilot can handle a frig,cruiser and BC.
The question is, properly skilled, does a Command Ship stand a chance against a properly skilled BS pilot?
Or should I just forget it and get a properly skilled BS.

well I'm no expert on this, but looking at the resists on command ships, I'd say a properly skilled command cruiser will wreck a properly skilled bs with very little trouble.

A command ship will tank better than a T1 BS unless that BS has billions in officer and deadspace gear.
Most field command ships can do the same or more damage than a T1 BS.
Command ships use cruiser sized weapons and mods, thus the skills required have lower ranks than battleship sized weapons and it is easyer to become powerfull in them faster.
Command ships will be prerequisits to T2 Battleships.
Command ships can fit uber gang mods.
And theres a bunch of other reasons that I am too tired to think of atm, but command ships are deffinantly worth it. Deffinantly for PvP but especially for NPCing because they can tank better and dish at just as much or more damage allowing them to brease through level 4 missions and high level complexes.

Unless that BS has a couple heavy Nos equipped. Nos is the ultimate BS weapon, as soon as Nos is fixed command ship, AF and HAC prices will sky rocket.

Command Ships kinda go like this IMO: Absolution > Astarte > Sleipnir > Nighthawk.

They've already skyrocketed. Granted, nos effetiveness should probably be scaled based on the size of the nos and the size (class or perhaps signature radius) of the ship, but other than that, they're fine.

I've seen these things in action, and I'm rather impressed by their tanking and damage output capabilities. The Absolution and Astarte are on my wishlist, but the Sleipnir and Nighthawk aren't exactly pushovers.

I would argue that Absolution==Astarte&&Astarte==Sleipnir && Sleipnir > Nighthawk, although a lot of it is situational (all command ships excepting caldari can fit just about anything you could possibly want on a cruiser sized ship).
(Note to self: do not post after writing a bunch of C logic)
To answer the OP, as an Astarte and Eos pilot: Hell yeah they're worth it.

Ah very cool.
I will continue skilling up for the Sleipner then.
Now to decide whether to continue to use medium guns on a Tempest (just doing level 3 missions so it's no trouble)
Anyway - thanks for that. Made me happy.

Use a battlecruiser for level 3 missions, it will get you used to handeling BC sized ships, BC sized weapons and mods, and with decent skills they do level 3s faster than a lot of BSs.

Yeah I think nos should work like missiles where its based on sig radius, only thing is that would suck for gallente blaster pilots and intys that use MWDs as the MWD would boost that sig so high.
Anyway, nos should be made so a large can only work like a small nos on a small target, and as a med nos on a med target. Fixing Nos won't nerf your beloved curse johnny...
And yes they would skyrocket even higher, the number of pilots that can use HACs that don't PvP with them in ratio to the number of pilots who do PvP with them is 5:1. Once Nos is nerfed, people will start buying HACs for PvP and prices will rocket.
