Ok, this is getting frustrating. I had to buy the collector's edition trough Amazon, because the EVE store doesn't ship to Brasil. Now I can't buy this because it won't ship to Brasil. But now it is worse, because I ran to the store to buy it and get the lithograph, and I see I won't get it. C'mon man, I even went to fanfest last year, I want to spend my money in EVE stuff, but I can't. I'll have to settle for the hardcover edition, that's it?
I'm really mad about this. |

I'm really mad about this. how about moving to a country with less stupid laws on importing stuff ? Even you being right about the stupid laws, or the massive taxes, the problem now is not here, the problem is the EVE store not shipping it here. When I bought the collector's edition, I paid more in taxes than the sum of product and S&H. I knew it, and I was prepared to pay for it. Now I don't have the option to buy it, because the only store selling it won't send it to me.
Got it?

Going to express my private frustration in public: charging some customers in the U.S. $32 to ship this is absurd.
Like Malcanis, I was hugely impressed by this in Iceland -- it's a VERY high quality product -- but I'm not paying $120 for it. I join my voice to the gentleman from Brazil in hoping Amazon will be getting some of these, and some of the signed ones would be ideal. Strange, I just looked at the price of ordering another one, and the shipping cost has jumped to $32. I didn't use a promo code, and yet my receipt says that I payed $15 for shipping.
Was there suddenly a change in shipping prices? If so, I don't know whether to feel lucky to have paid a pricing error, or flabbergasted that the price suddenly jumped for everyone else.

Turn-about is fair play to be honest, EU citizens generally pay at least that much for shipping anything from the US to the EU, and then we get hit by the import taxes on top of that. |

I'm from Yorkshire, which is to say I'd walk a mile to save a penny. I bought it instantly. Seriously, you can't directly compare cheap paperback pages of pure text with the glossy printed, near-card quality paper, half of which is covered extremely high quality colour images of original artwork.
If you read my edits, I already bought it...Because apparently I like EVE stuff...Darn it...
Aaanyway, it still feels like too much, you are definitely right that this is not just letters and a paperback cover, but you have to admit that 5000 pages for 25 euro vs 200 pages for 90 feels and sounds kind of ridiculous |

Yeah... announcing a memorial gets a countdown timer, something incredibly limited like this gets sprung at 15:30 GMT without any warning?
I have to say there's something insidious to the price point (which some people have been pausing at) combined with the exclusivity creating urgency to 'buy now, before they're all gone'. This feels like CCP has been learning the wrong lessons from in-game scammers... bad CCP! |

So-- it's a bad habit? But when I wake up each morning, I check the news, glance at a couple of comics (SMBC, XKCD, etc), do a quick check to see if I've received any email or evemail, and check http://www.eve-search.com/search/dpf/dev to see if anything interesting popped up, seeing as when I wake up CCP's been at work for most of their day. Most often, it's the community guys at work, but sometimes this means I'm aware of news before my mostly-US TZ alliance is.
I saw the release, hemmed and hawed for a couple minutes, and took the plunge at 1544 UTC, or 7:44 am local time -- a little bit under an hour after the news went out. Needless to say, I got a signed copy.
Not intended as gloating? But basically: they usually do their releases late in the day UTC, which means that most US players will be awake, if not necessarily active online. If you want to be on top of CCP news and releases, it's beneficial to have a habit of checking them during their business day-- because it's not like they're doing the release at 0900 UTC, when AU TZ is the only one active. No, some of us work that don't have access to a computer in order to buy books about internet spaceships. And it's just not about this. This whole announcement was very badly handled in my view - lets see what they didn't do:
1) Put anything about it in the messages in the launcher (yes lots of people don't use it but this seems a logical place to have something).
2) Why didn't they announce they were going to have a limited edition in advance - people could then have actually planned for it. I know eve source had previously announced but that was all.
3) They have just had a 10 year collectors edition with a code for benefits for people who had bought that - why on earth didn't anyone think to send out a mail to the same address as any other offers letting people know about it - can you think of a better market than those who have already bought the ce?????? |

This is definitely legitimate. I wonder if CCP was surprised by the rate of sale, as I get the impression the CE didn't have the same churn on it. I got the impression that CCP's outsourcing of the EVE store to Musterbrand was because of their history with overstocks. Priano Trans-Stellar is recruiting! Interested in nullsec combat? Research? Indeed, I would have expected some hinting at it even if not an outright announcement. I actually subscribed to updates to the musterbrand store to have it tell me when any books hit just so I could snag a copy. That email hit my box around noon which is a few hours after the book went on sale. I know that's more on musterbrand than CCP, but damn, that's slow for something like this.

Still, given the population of EvE, I would have expected them to have expected to try and sell to a larger percentage than they did.

The missing 100 ( unsigned ) were reserved to be sold to CCP staff and for PR, reviews and business partners. Members of the EVE dev team and more obviously wanted to get a copy as well. |

I've been involved in IGS kinda sorta since I started, but really got into it a little more than a year ago, and something like this would really help, not only because it could help fill gaps in my knowledge, but also because it's supposed to have new information which lets me go further. (my backstory being retired navy turned propulsion engineer, more up to date lore on stargates and warp drives would be great). I do sometimes struggle a bit because I need to do more reading. |

Quote:Exclusive clothing for male and female characters*. Something comfortable for your avatar to slip into when reading chapters about the corporatocracy of the Caldari, slave mines of the Amarr, or the glistening streets of Caille where everything has a price. * Clothing items remain exclusive to this product for 6 months.
can the clothing items be put on market, or is it locked to the redeeming account? or after 6 months it will be available through LP stores or NEX?

CCP's sometimes come under fire for 'limited edition goods' being available through a later marketing bonus. This makes it clear that the vanity items are a timed exclusive, which is to say exclusive only for a period of time-- after that, the good may be added through other means. Usually, though, CCP's been pretty good about not going hog-wild with vanity items. Consider, for instance, that Ishukone Sterling shirts are now on market for ridiculous prices-- because most of them have been bought up and are in collectors' hands.
Similarly, Genolution gold pods are starting to creep up in price, as are Phanca arms and all the rest of those things. Priano Trans-Stellar is recruiting! Interested in nullsec combat? Research? Exploration? Contact Priano Trans-Stellar: elegant solutions for the State's needs. |

It's exclusive to this offer for 6 months. It may be seeded elsewhere ( TBD ) after 6 months. It basically means that CCP does not promise that it will stay exclusive forever, but hasn't determined if and how and when it will enter the game by different means. |

This is definitely legitimate. I wonder if CCP was surprised by the rate of sale, This is true. We did not expect it would sell out in 7 hours, to be honest. It caught everyone happily by surprise, save for those who missed the announcement.

This is bullshit. Seriously. Was going to get it but what's the point now. I'll find a way to get it for free when it comes out on e-book just out of spite. If you're going to do limited/special editions, give people a chance at least.

I'd also like to second the suggestion that the countdown for the memorial would've better been suited for this. When I first saw the countdown I got excited and thought I should stay up till it hits zero cuz I might miss out on something....no, it's a memorial that I don't care for.
But when it comes to something where timing DOES matter, there's no foresight or thought that a countdown or devblog or announcement might be a good idea BEFORE starting sales. Seriously this is a slap in the face. |

The EVE store has sold out.
I have just ordered my copy of the limited edition from somewhere else.
I'm not going to say where, as I don't want the hordes of US players to know. But Australian players have a local option, a little detective work and local knowledge should be enough for you to figure it out. I can post on a forum, therefore I represent everyone.

Dear CCP / t0rfifrans / Falcon
My first impulsive move was to write a much flamed, angry, rage-quit words for you. However, I set down, and then went outside for some walk, and now I am back here to try to explain my frustration. As Manic Velocity, wife came to ask why I was staring anguish to the screen. Then she said almost the same.. That I really deserve the book. And so I run to buy it just to get even more frustrated because your Eve Store do not ship to my country. Why? Oh dear, why? Eve it is a MMO, which means that it is played for almost everyone in the globe. Why the good stuffs have to be sold only to a selected ones. And do not tell me that the majorities of players are in Europe / EUA and they could buy the book. Why they were privileged and I was excluded? I am an eve player like then! Please, which all my 9+ years uninterrupted of eve heart, I urge you to think about it. I know I and not making a crazy demand. I just want to be treated equally. I just want to have eve stuffs like everyone else. Again, please, think about it. Sincerely,

Reading the devblog, I get nostalgia thinking about the E-ON magazine days.
Nostalgia will make bad business decisions and I won't be purchasing this book, since it's only snapshot of the new eden universe and not a continued monthly/quarterly recurring magazine. Eve rule no.1: The players will make a better version of the game, then CCP initially plans.

This is definitely legitimate. I wonder if CCP was surprised by the rate of sale, as I get the impression the CE didn't have the same churn on it. I got the impression that CCP's outsourcing of the EVE store to Musterbrand was because of their history with overstocks. This was priced way too low. That collectors edition was 150?I would have paid that just to pre-order this book. This was an EVE art book with backstory = $250. Really, $90 is 3 dinners with 1 friend in any big city.
CCP needs to look at their player base - older, tech, males... that's a formula for discretionary spending. People fly to Iceland for this game - that's not cheap. |

I am a pretty annoyed with the real marketing miss on this.
EVE is not a guerilla marketing company, it has no reason to post limited time offers in near silence without a precursor announcement to allow for people to adjust schedules accordingly.
Like others here I was waiting since attending fanfest for the Source LE. I paid attention to the posts, and as usual with lots of limited offers, its posted a day or two before I get my check to boot. If I had known maybe a week in advance it would be something simple, and many players including myself could have gotten one, nevermind the people who weren't railroaded due to timezone or those that bought multiples.
The non-signed limited lithograph was very much something I was hoping to get but clearly that just isn't going to happen. Kind of irks me as you spend thousands of dollars in appreciation to attend a party/conference in support of a company, only to have very poorly planned marketing campaigns happen on multiple levels, whether its a bad PR driven in-game campaign or no forethought of how things evolve when you release a very limited quantity item and no forewarning. If an idea is logically sound, then be constructive about it. -áIf an idea is illogically sound, burn it down. -áRational thought and utility is everything... Oh and fire. |

Got it? About moving to another country, I would love to, but it is something easier said than done, right?
Again, I agree with my friend Katabrok. When I bought others stuffs I know that I will pay a small fortune because of taxes, however, this time we (brazilians) did not even get the opportunity to buy it. And that was the reason of my previous post.
Again, I pledge to the reason of CCP personals to think how frustrating this was.
In addition, no, I am not rage-quitting, and no, you cannot have my stuffs. I like the game, and despite that fact of being exclude of buying the promotional book, I still like the game. There nothing wrong with the game.
I am really mad with the people in the CCP office with decide to exclude me, and a lot of others players. Shame on you CCP.

$250 is pretty steep. Leather bound or not, it is still just a book. The $150 collectors edition game cost that much because it has a crapload of feelies in it. Hell it has a board game in it, and board games generally run $30 - $50, plus there's a USB hub, and not a basic model either. Even if their market is similar, the contents aren't that comparable. While I admit I would have been willing to pay a bit more, $90 is a fair price for a leather bound volume and a few extra things. |

I appreciated CCP wanted to make this limited edition, but a far better approach would have been to release 60 per hour for a day, of which the first 20 were signed, and to give fair warning ahead of doing it to allow people a chance to try and get one sometime in that 24 hour period- would have been a lot fairer.
Food for thought for another time I guess...

Hard to say. There's over 500k subscriptions and if you assume the average is 2-3 accounts per person, then you could also assume less than 1% of people got a chance to get this item.
I also think it's pretty **** move of certain individuals to gloat about the success of sales while completely ignoring the legitimate concerns of a large portion of posters in this very thread, not even an acknowlegement that the announcements were lacking and the release was very poorly executed. Nevermind the lack of foresight to produce enough copies to satisfy their roleplaying community.

It's just the limited version that was so very restricted in its availability, which I do not necessarily see as a bad thing. I do agree that the announcement and launch of the limited edition sale could have been handled better. |

Well the issue for some of us is that with an E-book version available that is searchable and can be taken on a tablet, the only reason to get a physical book is if it's a very very nice book. The Limited edition one is a nice book, the hardcover isn't bad but is still fairly ordinary. Then of course there's the fact the hardbound isn't a collectors item.

The real question is how many people were more interested in the little bonuses like the Lithos (signed or not).
If enough people go for the plain vanilla book, great, but my personal bet is the regular edition of the book will sell about as well as the "Limited Availability Collectors Edition" (still being hocked in the Launcher), which bodes poorer.
Actually, I'd be more curious how many Collectors Editions sold, which SHOULD have been an indicator to CCP of a Floor for how many copies of Source people would try to snap up. If they DID take it that way, and really have sold less than 1000 copies of the Collectors Edition, then I'm hardly surprised they printed as few Limited Edition copies of Source as they did. (still sad as I missed out on getting one myself, so now I'm one of those deciding about the regular edition ... and leaning toward 'NO') CCP: 10+ years of Harvesting players Tears -á(latest efforts being Source Limited Edition, and Alliance Logo Revised Policies) |

Two reasons why the Collectors edition probably didn't sell 1. price. Sure it has some nice swag in it, but they might have put a bit too much in the box and ended up driving the cost up way too much for most people. 2. Probably just as if not more important, you're really just getting the box, an EvE account is five dollars or five euros on top of the first month's subscription. Yes, the collector's edition does come with 2 months, so that's $35 already paid for, but you still aren't really buying a game unlike pretty much every other collectors edition out there.
Compare that to most other games where the collectors edition is $70-90 with $50-60 being the game itself. |

SO what time was it in Australia when it was announced this was for sale there? CCP still needs to make more units, though. Pretty sad to see you guys are flying 200 books to australia and most of them are probably going to be flying right back out. |

THat said, Dark Horse comics will be selling these at their booths during conventions such as Comic Con. But the EVE Store is out, and I haven't heard from IKON, but their 200 units are probably selling fast. |

No, it was actually a conversation between CCP and Dark Horse, based on prior works and their limited editions they had released on other titles and franchises. In retrospect, the number was too low, but due to the nature of limited editions, we will not be releasing more of this one, that would negate the value attributed to it for the people that managed to get a copy.
There is always the standard edition, it has all the pictures and the text:

The Eve Second Decade book was the main reason why I bought the CE. I don't know if I would have spent $150 for the book alone, but would for the Source LE. I also love the older artbook that was square and came in a slipcase. The new book should be fantastic if it is of the same quality as Darkhorse's Bioware artbooks. |

Meanwhile...
there was an announcement in the news that this Australian retailer would now accept pre-orders. I was able to place an order at popcultcha yesterday almost 24h after the announcement (hope they are not accepting more than they will get). So, if you are really interested - be quick. The shipping from Australia is somewhat expensive though.
Personally, I am convinced that this whole thing is a sinister Goonswarm plot (I call it the Limited Issue Book Acquisition Cartel or LIBAC) and I expect all the Limited Issues to be on Ebay soon selling for the triple normal price... :-D |

Here's to hoping they aren't accepting more pre-orders than they're getting, but I find it hard to believe my pre-order today is still valid.

Here's hoping they're smarter than that, (or someone from CCP reaches out to them and makes sure they're not accepting lots of pre-orders they can't fill) ... that would certainly be a fitting coda to this whole incident.
... of course CCP/DarkHorse sending lots of books to AU, only to have them shipped back out again to the rest of the world is also a fitting end, so here's hoping either way. :) CCP: 10+ years of Harvesting players Tears -á(latest efforts being Source Limited Edition, and Alliance Logo Revised Policies) |

Nice idea about FanFest, more of a "do it yourself" method to appeal to Industrialists ... its like buying a one run BPC ( ... if only I was able to go and get it signed)
Either way ... \o/ ... now to wait till it ships back out from the land of the Bouncing Joey to the land of the Bouncing Betty or the land of the Bouncing Veronica. CCP: 10+ years of Harvesting players Tears -á(latest efforts being Source Limited Edition, and Alliance Logo Revised Policies) |

Thank you for that. People love EVE. Don't be surprised by it still after over 10 years. Hopefully your next limited edition product can satisfy just a bit more than 0.1% of your customer base.

forgive me if this question was asked before.... but I got a little confused about that point after reading the first posts in this tread..... the one EVE Source book wich is available right now (10.may.2014) is not a hardcover?
I just ordered yesterday and I am very exited for it to arrive monday or so, but I-¦m not sure now if I am still interested if this is just like a magazine and not a "book"?
...or am I totaly wrong way with this fear and my "not limited"Edition of EVE Source will still be a real "book" and there just some other differences between limited and regular version? "there are million ways to death, but only one way leads to life" |

My understanding is that the standard edition is a softbound book. Not magazine, but think more "collected works" or "paper back" style. Same dimensions as the hard bound edition, just different binding and cover material (the Limited Edition was leather bound).
The only other differences are the 2 prints that were included in the Limited Edition, and the "Voyager" plaque w/code for some in-game 'collectables' (like this: New Eden Source in-game edition ). Mostly just fluff and stuff to be honest. CCP: 10+ years of Harvesting players Tears -á(latest efforts being Source Limited Edition, and Alliance Logo Revised Policies) |
