What if there was a dead end system that you could only enter in your pod.
The system has no celestials, just a giant volcano like 100km off gate.
And once you enter this system, you are automatically placed inside of a racial shuttle.
Like other shuttles, these shuttles have no guns or mods.
But they are titan sized.
And the goal of this system is to bump each other into the volcano.
Obviously being bumped into a space volcano means both your ship and pod die.
So see, it will be very high stakes and exciting.
Maybe tie it to like faction warfare. Like a successful volcano bump gives 10k faction LP.
Oh, and the best part? Randomly, once per hour the volcano erupts and lava moves from the volcano to the gate at a rate of 1000 km\s. Which means pilots would have a maximum of like a minute and a half to get out of the system before they get lava'd.
Please provide constructive feedback in this thread.

I can already feel some people are concerned about the theme park nature of the volcano mechanic and I sort of agree... I considered player built deployable volcanoes but like, that doesn't make a great deal of sense to me. |

This is a bad idea. Instead you should allow any shiptype, all modules are disabled upon entering the system. Also instead of a volcano, can we a have a black hole to keep with the whole spaceship thing? |

I disagree about bringing your own ship. Ships need to be super big and relatively fast or else there is no way anyone gets bumped 100km.
The black hole thing is brilliant tho! I think we could compromise by putting the volcanos IN the black holes. The lava can come out of the black hole.

Make it a supermassive blackhole with a pulsar or something that will irradiate the entire system every so often like you said originally.

OK what about THIS
100KM in any direction from the gate is BLACK HOLE territory. Literally a system that is 100km of gate grid and a black hole.
So all you need to do is bump someone 100KM off the gate in any direction and they die.
And then it can do the periodic PULSAR to irradiate the entire system.
The LP mechanic can revolve around some sort of research goal...
Like lets say there is a NPC item in a can like 93km off the gate. You can go and try and loot it but then when you do, you are a prime bump target.
Then you need to go put the item in a can on the OTHER side of the grid, that is also 93km from the gate.
Then you can turn in the mission. So in order to complete the mission you are a prime bumping target twice.
These missions to black hole system can originate from mission agents in that solar system I guess.
I am trying to see how we can still keep the volcano in this feature, but I will admit, it is becoming difficult. |

All that unpleasantness out of the way, I find your second suggestion intriguing. Perhaps if you get bumped into the black hole, there is 95% chance of death - and 5% chance of entry to a jovian system. That seems like it could work with the whole exploration thing eve is pushing.
But the blackhole is supposed to be bad. So if you are lucky enough to be the 5% that makes it to the Jovian side, all you can do is suicide yourself. Oh, or die FROM THE LAVA FROM THE JOVIAN VOLCANO. Or die from the Jovian AI Ghostships. (Like in that one book that has the ghostships filled with the extinct avian race engaged in never ending combat as they pass each other in orbit every x amount of time).

So, after a bit of thinking, it stands to reason that it would take a lot of lava to fill up space. There is no precedent for lava filling up all of space so it is kind of a silly mechanic. But what I do know is that volcano's produce a lot of fumes and gas. So the lava will just be a nice visual effect for the CCP modellers to nerd out on. What the volcano will actually emit is damaging gas - a mechanic that I believe eve actually already has.
So basically, if you get into this jove system, there is a volcano that is choking the system to death with gas. Oh, and also you.

I think what you are really asking for is: A new mini-game and since Mini-games now exist (think exploration spew cans) why not make one that could be engaged in while in station?
Why soil the EVE universe with a dead end system and bizarre code when instead you can add it as a mini-game.
Otherwise... I don't like the idea.  |

the sansha incursion shut us down for like 2 days and forced us to do pve and that hurt. i have heard of this "CO2" but only ever seen their backs as they run away so Im not really an expert so sorry about that

The whole Volcano idea is problematic as it requires significant amount of magma to be workable and even if you burst an entire planet you would barely have enough to equate to bursting a zit on the arse of the system it's in.
On the other hand...Have the star in system be collapsing in a pre-supernova state and you could argue that it could produce gamma radiation fueled cosmic pyro-clastic events that spew in a random direction and then sweep around the system in an arc as the star spins on its axis.
I do believe I now need more caffeine... |
