I've been flying lvl 2 mission in a Thorax and had no problems. Will the same ship be sufficient for lvl 3 or do you advise me to get something with bigger teeth? If so, what would be good?

Bigger teeth...
A well setup Battlecruiser(some combat mision can get tricky if you have a poor setup) or a Battleship for the "no questions asked" win.

I fly a Zealot if I ever do level 3 missions. Only Spider Drones are hard to hit. Zealot can do every level 3 mission out there, afaik.

Edited by: Firequill on 11/04/2006 09:38:00 yup.. a battlecruiser is good. (use a brutix myself) Did some in an enyo though, and it is doable.. However i got careless on step 2 of massive attack and aggroed the heavy missile turrets, pop went the tech2 weasel .
just make sure you get that bc skill up, or it can get rough on the tougher missions.
I dont know if my new agent hates me or what but ive gotten massive attack 2 times in a row, and then got black market hub 2 times as well..
anyhoo. good luck , and may your ships always have full insurance

Does the Zealot holds level 4 missions or a BS will be better for that ?

A retribution is excelent for lvl 3 missions, i kills cruisers fast and it can tank anything My setup: High: 4 medium pulse II Med: 1MN Gist A-Type AB Low: Small Armor Repairer II, Thermal Hardener II or faction, Dark Blood Energized Adaptive Nano, 2 CPRs
I can run everything forever, you can even tank the lvl 4 missions with it if you have someone that can take the webbing frigs fast and has some firepower to brake the tank of the bs.

You can find a post like that in almost EVERY newbie fitting thread, it's so laughable.
He does level2 missions in a thorax. And you advice him to use a zealot. That's very intelligent.
Or was this just another "look mummy, i'm a big boy already and can fly a cool zealot" posting?

With good skills and a good setup you can do most level 3s in a cruiser but some will be very hard. Recommended ship for level 3s are either a Battlecruiser or Assault Frigate. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I think a Titan would be best for level 3 missions.
With medium guns.

Some level 4 missions are done faster in a Zealot, but most missions are too much. Essentially, all missions past ~3k LP (low sec system and high grade agent), iirc, will get you killed.

Anyway. My advice for level3 missions when skilled to gallente : Megathron with medium rails. Mediums because you won't encounter BSs anyway. And meds hit cruisers and frigates better. Especially when they are closer than 10km, which is mostly the case.
Glad you enjoy it.
Now, a Zealot is quite possible to fly effectively enough at low skill points, it's mostly the cash for one that's the problem. Some have that sort of cash after less than a month, others after less than a year. Yarrmageddon is one month and 2 days old. I seldom take the time to log in and check it out, but since you thought it was a good idea to flame away a bit, I did.
Presenting advice for a bit more advanced contents is not such an act of bragging as you make it out to be. He'll be, in short amount of time, in a very competent ship if he focuses on the Zealot. Should take about a month and two weeks. I might add that this training time is not too far from a Megathron, which you suggested.
Megathron, however, have several major drawbacks, and I am surprised you even suggested it after going on so many lines about how stupid a suggestion for Zealot was.
Yarrmageddon, if you want a good ship that you'll probably not loose even if you screw up, do yourself a favour and aim for the Dominix. It's cheaper, does more damage to annoying HAC NPCs, and won't hurt as much if you somehow do manage to loose it to a level 3.

Armor tanked Rupture. Though I've managed some in a Stabber as well.

I managed to do a lvl 3 mission in a Stabber once. But I got really bad skills in Minnie ships, and it took ages. Then I took out the trusty Maller and melted them all in no time

I do level 3's in my Shield Tanked Cyclone (Minmatar Battlecruiser). The ship is a bit skill intensive (as most shield tanks are) but it is very effective.
Hi 5x720mm Siege Artillery 3xArbest Assault Launchers (Frig defense)
Med Afterburner Large Shield Booster 2 Large Shield Extender 2 2xMission Specific Hardeners
Low 3xPower Diagnostic Systems 2 (Needed the grid for those 720's.. plus free shield/cap is nice for my tank) 1xNanofiber/Gyro (Depending on if I want more damage or better handling)

Edited by: Devil MayCare on 11/04/2006 15:19:14 Edited by: Devil MayCare on 11/04/2006 15:19:00 Just another question from a lvl3 newbie: If I have enough money to fly a BS, is there any reason NOT to fly one in lvl 3? I mean, BC is probably moving a little faster, but BS has more firepower. All this is withskills to use a T2 passive tank and the same skill level in both medium and heavy guns and BC/BS. Or is the difference so marginal that I don't have to buy a BS for lvl3 and can use the 50+ million ISK difference for other things in the meantime?
Tank shouldn't be a problem with both Prophecy and Geddon, correct?

I would say buy a BS as the lvl 3 are very easy in it and with some solid mission running you easily make back that 50 million :)
I use a Dominix for most lvl 3 cause it is much more easy that the Brutix Also Tractor beam will help alot in getting the loot cans

What I did (don't laugh), was to take the exact BC setup I had and move it to a BS. Then I used the extra low slots for nanos, and an extra high slot for a tractor beam. Result: same basic firepower, better tank, FASTER LOOTING. All in all a great mission setup. (But it would be embarassing in PvP with my puny cruiser guns.)

Hands down get a Battleship, You can do missions much much faster, have tractor beams and loads of weapons, able to carry lots of loot, and with enough skills you can go afk for a min and still be ok when you get back
Battleship for lvl 3 missions FTW

Essentially what I did on my alt. Noone should laugh, the cruiser turrets will actually do goodly damage compared to battleship turrets since tracking is a huge issue unless you set for snipe (in which case looting will be a problem). Should sacrifice a med slot for a sensor booster, however, since I find lock times on battleships to be annoying.

the best cheap ship for lvl 3's is a maller
high 5x medium pulse, med nos
mid 10mn ab, web, cap charger
low med t2 rep, 1600mm tung, 2x hardeners, cap relay

Was, that was pre-pulse nerf. Now you should fit beams:P
However i think zealot should be the fastest ship to do them. (possibly cerb). However most lvl3 missions are quite easy and doable in retribution. I was using this setup: 4x beam II web small rep II, 2x hs II, mapc, cpu. (yeah my old pvp setup). I think it should be doable also in harpy / wolf/ enyo, but retri is probably best, because beams outdamage rails/artys by quite large margin.
For afkers: apoc with permatank and 8 small guns:P

i don't have hac skills so i bought me a navy vexor.
pimped it just a tiney bit and trained for med t2 drones.
very little skill training involved, just the cost is around 300 mil total. (bit more than ishtar + fittings)
l3's go smooth as butter. very very fast. Maybe he is right that it goes faster in a zealot, ubt im not complaining. Right before you wake up in cloning bay you are gonna say my name! |

I use a Brutix. Setup like so:
5 250mm 2's 2 125mm 2's (loading am and iradium ammo) 10mn ab 2 3 cap rechargers MAR2 SAR2 2x passive hards plus dmg mod 2 or 3x passive hards
10 Light Drones or 5 Medium, mission depending
I can do every level three mission and I started out with 1 items in all the 2 item slots, cept a second mar instead of sar2
Basically its all about which spawns to agro in what order, including keeping control of ur drones, and having weapons to hit at a veriety of ranges.
There are a few instances where that tank will not hold indefinately. For those I unleash drones, which continue to att while ur warped out, gank some dmg dealers and warp out. Rinse and repeat. |

I have used an Eagle and a Deimos with great luck on missions (LVL3...and select 4s)
I have a few setups i use depending on the missions....if you use a ion blaster deimos use null ammo as it hits up to 15km....and shreds frigs fast and cruisers go down fairly quickly too. It spits out lots of dps. If you dont like blasters go with 200 rails...and drones for close frigs...either makes quick work of lvl 3 missions...in my 6th high i use a tractor cuz im lazy.
Eagle is same....close range or snipe em all and leave the loot.
Ishtar I have never been a fan of due to drones having a mind of their own and always aggro things on themselves if you are not constantly vigilant of what they are doing.
Just my two cents.
