Right at the start I want to make clear that I am not bad mouthing the Curse Alliance as I have contacted some of their members and they seem good guys, however this post should serve as a warning to all those intending to travel in the Curse region and surrounding space.
I was unaware that there was even a strong military presence in the region in the form of an alliance when I set off there tonight however it turns out there is. Nor was I aware that it is being treated as a closed region by a few of the corps involved.
Due to the ongoing war with the Stain Alliance it would appear that some members of this alliance, who are guarding gates on the way into the region, are a little trigger happy. Having contacted the alliance I found there should be a warning or questioning that takes place in the local channel before any action - however in my case this did not happen.
On approaching the gate I noticed 3/4 ships belonging to Shinra Corp (2 Apocs, a Scorp and something else). At about 20-30km out travelling at 140m/s and posing no threat I assumed all was well as they are not a pirate corp and all had large positive sec ratings. However seconds later I was warp scrambled and destroyed.
Still I tried to contact the players responsible but they rejected my convo's until they finally answered in the local channel, I was accused of making a run to the gate(!) and they didn't know who I was. This despite me trying to contact them in the local channel before the attack. It was also suggested that there is not always enough time to question people, again bullsh*t in my particular case.
So for those of you who had no knowledge of the Curse Alliance be careful. If noone replies in local channel while guarding a gate and you are on your own (or if they belong to Shinra) go another way. Its not worth the trouble, believe me.
As it stands I was caught with my pants down and blasted back to beta almost. I am now the proud owner of a pod and 700k having just lost all my new equipment, my uninsured Armageddon and the skills I was carrying. I am poor, and I mean poor. All donations will be greatly appreciated.
*knock**knock* whos that - ah the salvation army...what do you mean you have surrendered

Edited by: Durandal on 17/09/2003 01:45:56 How much did I get paid?!?! Are you joking. I just lost everything, and Second Wave Inc is in no way linked to ANY alliance.
Seriously, I am ****ed, and its only because I managed to speak to someone in their alliance who seemed a good guy that I am not jsut abusing them on this forum.
And besides, what would be the benefit of this post. I'm not saying don't go to Curse or avoid Curse, I'm saying that I had no idea the alliance existed and because of this I got destroyed. I was warning others not to do as I did. Please think before you write.

The benefit for the Curse Alliance would be obvious, making a name for themselves and keeping people out of there, think before you post...

Edited by: Durandal on 17/09/2003 01:52:35 The benefit is not obvious. And even if there is a benefit to them so what. The point of my post is to warn people who had no idea this was happening to be careful. For example, don't afk warp etc. It could cost you a ship. It cost me mine.(not afk warping, just not knowing about the alliance )
And MASS, lol. Appropriate that you should reply. They said you took out one of their battleships last night.

Danton, sir you are a jerk. A paranoid jerk. Believe me as a jerk I know what I'm talking about so just trust me on this
My sympathy Durandal, don't trust anybody.. Security rating says nothing, and more often than not if you see a battleship in 0.0 space then he'll try to kill you. Especially alliance peeps..

Well I have no shame and I asked. But they declined. Something about "if we started paying back those people whos ships we wrongly blew up we would have no money" or words to that effect. Oh well, back to mining for another 2months. Just as I was looking forward to rat hunting

This reads like a genuine post and my sympathies to the guy in question who has obviously learnt a painful lesson.
Flaming posts like this is why this forum is such a chore to read a lot of the time.
Good luck Durandal, hope you get back on your feet soon enough.

Seriously though, why were you flying around in 0.0 space in an uninsured battleship with several hundred thousand isk worth of skills not in a secure container?

I for one am grateful for the warning. Though I hardly leave Empire space - 0.0 is a wee bit too dangerous to hunt in for a solo frigate flyer - I do on occasion grab my Stabber to hunt some bigger game.
Curse is just around the corner, so: Cheers!

Been flying in and out of curse most days for the last week and seen no Shinra, although I heard they took a potshot at a corp mate yesterday. Seen a few MASS hanging around (including Xen0?!) but they didn't shoot at me.
Curse is open to anyone using normal caution for 0.0 space - Fountain this is not. Much more of an obstacle is RUS camping the superhighway chokepoint in Catch.
Also if there is some corp/alliance that wants to make curse a closed area, aren't you making your job rather hard by not actually telling anyone?

Chai: Not at all, there's no way you could describe my corp as big and we're having lots of fun in curse, in fact the Angel Cartel got a bigger piece of us than Shinra Corp ever did, due to an embarrasing afk incident with an indy...

The reason I was in 0.0 space in an uninsured ship was because I had no money to insure it :P. I was going hunting to get the isk, it was a calculated risk that didn't pay off. Our members have been flying down that way for the last couple of weeks without incident so I wasn't too concerned. Again this is the reason for the post, had I know of a war I would of been way more cautious. You live and learn .
As it happens there are 2 alliances in Curse. My understanding is that one is the Curse Conglomerate or Commonwealth or something - I forgot the title. I spoke to a guy from it called Fubie. These guys are not at war with Stain and do not guard gates or attack people needlessly. It was the Curse Alliance (and particularly Shinra) that took me out.
Incidentally RUS have a non-aggression thing going with the Curse Alliance as they are after the Stain Alliance, so they are also floating about down there. Sods law that 15mins before my destruction I managed to do a double back warp to moons, then warp back to gate with mwd on to lose RUS and was feeling pleased with myself when I approached Shinra.

True, however it is not the Curse Alliance that I am ****ed at, or even the fact that Shinra are guarding gates. Its the fact that I was destoyed for NO reason what-so-ever. A total waste. At least in Fountain they give you a warning to leave
