Ok I buy that, but that doesn't mean I have to go to low or null and blow someone up for the LOLs
No, but it
does mean that there is no way to GÇ£just do your own thingGÇ¥ in EVE GÇö the game simply does not allow it. As a result, this means that everything you do affects and influences the combat / political portion of the game, and they need to be able to affect you right back.
It also means that even if you don't want to PvP, you still have to. You can't
not do it. You may choose to do it in an arena where you're more comfortable, but you are competing with (and beating) other players, which creates problems for them. So when they come right back and cause problems for
you (using an arena
they're more comfortable in), it's not really something you can complain about GÇö it's just part of the game.
EVE is a sandbox, but that doesn't tell the whole story, and it doesn't mean you can pick and choose what to do. The full story is that EVE is a
multiplayer sandbox, where
everyone can pick and choose what to do, which includes doing things to you that you will not like. To make matters worse, this sandbox is built around a market and a war economy that
requires bad things to happen to people in order for the whole thing to go around.
Now, just to make it clear, I'm using the generic GÇ£youGÇ¥ here, not one directed at
you, Kariel. Quite the opposite, in fact sinceGǪ
Quote:In short, it's a big game, you play your version and I'll play mine, if we cross paths we'll shoot it out. But you are gonna have to come to hi sec for that, or catch me when I'm crossing low sec.
[GǪ]
I'm just not into blowing stuff up for profit or funsies, I know the risks and accept them.
GǪyou seem to want to agree to the terms the game sets up: you are indeed engaged in constant conflict, whether you choose to or not (or, rather, by choosing to play the game, you choose to engage in conflict). The problem is that a lot of people GÇö especially in highsec GÇö don't share this notion. They falsely believe that the sandbox works like a single-player sandbox where they GÇö and
only they GÇö can do what they want; that they are supposed to be disconnected from the multiplayer aspect of that sandbox; that any intrusion into GÇ£theirGÇ¥ part of the sandbox is a most gruesome violation of their person; and that all such violations should be banned.
GǪwhich leads us back to that original quote: if you don't want to PvP, you are playing the wrong game, because in EVE, it is quite literally
impossible not to PvP. Complaining about being GÇ£PvP:edGÇ¥ in this game is like playing CS and complaining about being shot in the face GÇö it's kind of the point of the game. It's just that EVE offers so many variations on the theme and that it has converted activities that normally delivered in the form of PvE in other games into PvP, and this apparently comes as a huge surprise to some.
