80 hours a week and getting paid about 40-60k a year...hmm sounds alot like my medical residency...although at the end of it(3 years away), the salary goes up quite a bit. __________________________________________________ 2006.01.24 06:13:19 Your Tachyon Beam Laser II perfectly strikes Amarr Control Tower [TSBS]<TSDS>, wrecking for 1528.7 damage. |

Okay just to clear things up, there is a differeence between Salaried and Hourly. Its like Dust Angel said
Quote: if your salaried, they own your ass.
How do I know, I was salaried for 4 1/2 years. And I was scheduled for 45 hours a week but in reality I averaged 50-60 hours a week and didnt get paid **** for it.
And anyone in the US be happy or scared but about a year ago some people tried getting a law on the books that if you earned over 22k a year you would be considered salaried. (it got killed but quite a few people were interested in pushing it thru)
Think about that for a second.

Self employed people the world over, myself included, work similar if not longer hours with less time off and no rights to receive sick pay or holiday pay.

Not sure if your compairing that story and being self employeed. If you are they are two different sides of (I'll go so far as to say) different coins. You directly reap the benifits for the amount of work you put into your own business. Not much most of the time I know most self employeed make enough to pay the bills and keep the business afloat.
He will never (the person in the EA story), and 95% of the salaried people will never, reap the rewards of their hard work. The person in the story is a perfect example.
The complaint of this persons SO wasnt so much of the hours, but that EA intentionally factored 60-80 hour work weeks, and lied saying they should only expect 40-50.
I cant find it at the moment but California has a law stating that salaried people can be compensated for working over their scheduled times. Because employers were abusing salaried people and hours worked. To the point it went to court and they even had to pay back wages for something like 10 years. I remember it because I was hoping it would become a federal law, and I was going to get to cash in for all the time I had worked.

i decided long ago that i would never ever give my money to EA again, and this has only served to reinforce that idea
first off the games are usually crap, the same sports game with new names and sponsors... granted there are some exceptions but mostly it's the same boring ****.
second they seem to me like some kind of borg company assimilation game companies that used to be inovating and turn them into the same boring uniform game p.o.o.p.ing dispensor unit
then there is the horrible need of ea to push half finished titles out just to make sure they keep to the release date... hey EA get it through your head that we'd rather wait another 6 months to get a finished product rather then paying 50 bucks for a ******* beta at the planned release date

Well, it's a good read and all... very well written... but... if what EA ios doing is illegal... shut up and sue already! You can write in your diary any time you want. Sue EA and make enough money to start up your own gaming company. --- --- --- ---
