Didn't read all thread, but above statement prolly correct.
I engaged an ishkur in my rax last night. Had all gank setup (5xmed ions + 1 dmg mod + mwd). He was dying pretty quickly when he left, in structure. Had 2 wcs fitted

I'm 2 months in the game now but when I was about 3 weeks in, I got blown up by a harpy, and I was in a thorax...But I had no idea what the hell I was doing then, my first PvP encounter..I think the outcome would be much different now

Caracal with assault launchers would tip things in favor of the cruiser(and its not uncommon to find them with assaults if they are frigate hunting, and with close to 50km range the lights arent too shabby for cruisers).

you guys saying that t1 cruisers > t2 af's are crazy.
Most of the time i kill cruisers in my merlin with no problems, so wtf are you guys talking about?. I will say these are mostly long range ships i go after, but unless they are geared for close range my money is on the AF's, and even then if your smart in an AF you shouldnt have a problem (ie: long range frigs).

yes you kill cruisers in your merlin without no problems. and you have even made it to 0.0 once. but it was way too dark for you there.
like someone before mentioned: the most important variable here is that t1 cruisers are usually flyed by less experienced players than t2 assaults. and that tips the favor towards AF.

you also have to take into consideration the fact that most cruisers you would be preying apon are fitted to take out rats. That means bigger/slower weapons that favor range (usually), unless (like dude said) hes frig hunting, or he's in a close range ship.

I have to agree with Dark , altho' i can fly AF's and they are fun to fly , a tech I cruiser = dead AF ,
I regulary (sp?) fly Ruptures and don't specifically setup to kill AF's just all rounder sort of thing and hold no fear against any AF out there , maybe the Rupture is a bad example just because it is the pwn , but if you fly whatever race cruiser regular i can't see how an AF wins , as is always in pVp it is mostly luck , u might run into a cruiser npc'ing and just wipe the floor with him in an AF

True, a properly fitted tech1 cruiser vs AF = dead AF.
Then again, you can properly fit a tech1 cruiser to kill a HAC or BS too.

I lost vs a wolf yesterday in a stabber 
I had only 2 guns online and forgott to turn mwd off, so I had 30% cap left when starting to fight.
I warped out at 10% armor, he had 20%.
the setup was ok but with 2x425mm and 2xassault you cant hit **** and dont deal enough dmg even with web.
2nd solo fight and I failed to get a nice kill, oh I suck

So u have guns u wont hit u have anything but precision heavy or smaller u wont hit for much.
Take a Caracal fit for dmg 300dmg per hit in kine 107per missiles. 500dmg a volley no rof bonus so with T2 launcher 9sec each volley take me 3.5sec to get back 87 shield and cap stable. 223 dmg tanked in 9sec this mean only 273dmg a volley....
Be serious a caracal wont tank me for 1min
AF > Cruiser anyday
Noobs AF = Cruisers...
And yeah got also a kill of ferox with launcher in my blaster harpy... but before Precision T2.

I'd take on a cruiser in an af, only because a lot of pilots can't fit their ships, if the cruiser pilot has half a clue, af dies 1v1.
I killed a moa in stilleto the other day solo, but it took 4 reloads and he was armour tanking - when I looked in the can there was 280 t2 howitzers..

Well Dark I once tanked 2 Cerberus in my harpy in a 20km trundle at 280m/s to the gate, and they didnt break my tank before i got out... I dont think missile ships are all that great against AF, medium blasters and a web however make an AF a melted mess.

With tactics, an AF can rip a BC apart. I made a Brutix run at 50% armour, because it couldnt keep up with me - Every time it gets close, warp out, warp back in. (I had friends 100km off, dealing with a Tempest, me and a Cruiser were working on the BC, the Cruiser had to warp out. The Brute pilot bottled it when his drones wernt working.)

I'm training my first cruiser skills today whilst I've had assault frigs since Christmas, I think extra skills will be a big factor here.
In terms of the AF vs Cruiser arguement, many noobs train the cruiser skill straight up and dont have the extra back log of tanking and ganking skills to back up the basics...
I have taken down cruisers in my AF and even a BC with surprise on my side but from a standing start, from distance against a decently skilled cruiser pilot, the odds are definitely against the AF every time...
Also the cruisers have more slots for gadgets like webbers and jammers and such which make such a big, big difference...
5 drones suddenly coming at you is also an unpleasant surprise when it happens...

There is a simple answer to this just like every other is this shiptype better than this shiptype post.
If your cruiser does not have a Web there is a good chance that an AF can beat you. For instance, I have beaten a Thorax in my Wolf when I was mainly setup for PvE. He even had light blasters so don't give me that "well he must have been missing often."
On the other hand, if he had whipped out the Webber, I would have lost hands down. Guns would have hit for more and my armor would not have mattered as much. So once again the answer is...

Yes i have killed countless cruisers/BC with AF. I have won BC+cruiser+t1 frig vs my AF fights etc. But that doesn't mean AF is better than a cruiser or BC i simply fought inexperienced players. A half-decent pvper in a t1 cruiser will make you run or kill you anytime.

Why are people quoting kill mails? Yes AF's can kill cruisers. Yes Inty's can kill cruisers. Hell even tech 1 frigates with crappy setups can kill cruisers. That doesn't mean every cruiser in EVE is going to by DEFAULT die to your frigate.
Cruisers have it much more eaiser to counter and defeat a frigate than a frigate can counter and defeat a cruiser. It's about the same for AF vs Inty. AF have it eaiser compared to Inty vs AF's. It's how it goes...
Again, ships dont fly the pilot. The pilot flies the ship. I have about a 100 of AF and Inty killmails of me killing easy dumb moronic cruiser pilots who should of put my lights out. Again, it doesn't mean anything if the pilot sucks in combat.

I also got killed. Mine was assault launcher x 5.
