So what is it I hear you ask. I promise that you are not gonna like it, but regardless of that, it works so well for me that I thought I would share it anyway.
Before I write down the setup you will notice one thing that might shock. I have only fitted the Raven with 5 T2 Siege launchers and not 6. Note ! This is NOT for PvP !! It is geared for those lvl 4 missions you want to do comfortably without the hassle. OK, The ship setup is as follows:
--------------------------------------------------------------- High Slots: 5 x T2 Siege Launchers (Get your torp skills as high as poss) 1 x Heavy NOS 1 x Large Smartbomb (named preferably) 1 x Tractor Beam
Medium Slots: 1 x T2 XLarge Shield Booster 1 x Shield Boost Amplifier 2 x T2 Cap Recharger
1 x Shield Extender + 1 x NPC Specific Shield Hardener or 2 x NPC Specific Shield Hardeners
Low Slots 2 x Ballistic Control Units 1 x CPU Enhancer 2 x T2 Power Diagnostic Units (You can swap out a BCU for another CPU if your skills are not high enough yet)
Drones 3 x Ogre's (Heavy Drones) ---------------------------------------------------------------
The reason I have fitted a large smartbomb in a high slot is you may have noticed in some lvl 4 missions you encounter those web/warp jammer annoyances. Those annoying flies you just want to swat. The large smartbomb will take care of anything orbiting you up to 10k.
I have now been running with this setup for a week and it is definately the best all round npc mission setup I have come across for a Raven. The tractor beam means you can get all the loot without finding the need to take a nap between each crate. The ship has so much sustainabilty with this setup that you can target and loot containers quite happily whilst still under fire.
However, I cannot stress enough that your advanced torp skills need to be right up there. Ideally all at lvl 4+ and the better you can get your BS Skills and Electronic skills, you can substitute the CPU enhancers for another BCU. My current rate of fire for torps is in the 8 second bracket. Firing like bullets, I dont think I would wanna be on the receiving end. This compensates nicely against someone on a lower skill base using 6 launchers.
Please DO NOT use this for PvP. I cannot stress this enough.
I hope this helps. Good hunting.

P.S. I would love any further suggestions you may have on any improvements to this. I have also been experimenting with various PvP setups so I would welcome a top-end PvP rig for the Raven. Cheers.

Edited by: Kamikaaazi on 18/04/2006 12:46:27 This looks like a regular noob fitting. Replace XL II with faction XL booster and youll have plenty of spare cpu. Use t2 medium drones for killing frigs. AND FFS USE 6 LAUNCHERS

Remove that large smartbomb. Ceptors in mission usually orbit around 7.65-9km range. A normal and even most of the faction large smartbombs cannot hit that far. Also, it will take at least 5 burst to kill a ceptor, during which time you cannot use missiles or you will lose them to the smartbomb blast. So use drones or small guns and forget about using smartbomb on a missile boat. Use medium drones instead of heavy drones. They are better for small targets and with 6 cruise launchers, you wouldn't have problem to kill cruisers and battleships.

IÆm not going to flame you or anyone else but whatÆs up with NOS on PvE setups these days is there nothing better to fit on a PvE ship in the top slot? I know they are good in certain situations in PvP but in PvE I can think of much more useful mods in the highslots. AFAIK you cant shut down npc guns with NOS and last time I tried the amount of cap was realy low so u sucked a cruiser dry in no time Ahh wth ill flame u a bit :P I rather have one more launcher than the smartbomb, but im no raven expert.

Well it can actually depend...
The two heavy nosfs actually help me sustain my B-type x-large booster for eternity. On most lvl 4 mission, that means the end of warping away from pirate drones -> warp in at 15 km, start tanking and watch the fireworks!
But you're right, the usefulness in PvE can be contested...
To the OP: frankly, on a raven, you'd better use 5 medium drones, which make short work of frigates and light cruisers.

Quite Easily. Sustainabilty. Against NPC's they are predictable so build the ship like a tank and take your time. If you have 2 T2 cap recharchers and 3 PDU's fitted, you will be surprised at the sheer repair speed of a raven fitted with a T2 XL Shield Recharger.
Still.... have got a new setup based on the tips above. Works great. Cheers.

How does anyone find enough Cap to run an XL Sheild Booster? Or are all your fights over in the 100 seconds it takes to run you dry?

i'm a PvE coward (i dont want to ever face the embarssment of losing a ship to misssion ) so i used XL shield booster. the trick is, you have to build your setup around this fact. so cruise launchers, not torps.
with 2x heavy nos and heavy capacitor injector with 4 800s loaded and 10 in my cargo, i can run the booster until i can warp out three times over or until the mission is done.
Nos is great for XL shield boosters on mission with NPC haulers: those have 4 THOUSAND cap EACH and orbit you at 5km lol
Those who see grey in the world do not see clearly, for the world is ever cast in black and white. |

This is what I'm using:
4 cruise launchers 2 siege launchers
1 T2 large booster Boost amp 4 T2 hardners
2 PDU/wcs, 3 T2 BCU
Works rather well so far and I've only been playing 4 months so my skills aren't great.

You're brave and/or suicidial using a large smartbomb in empire.

I have used only 2 hardeners on every lvl 4 I've done in my passive-tanked ferox...

Run it in bursts. Unless you draw a massive aggro or have screwed up your setup, you wont need to run the CL all that much 99% of the time.
And if you do, you keep the cap hovering in the 35-50% range as long as possible.

If you look at the cap usage per hitpoint of the XL II and the L II they are identical, so if you are gona run out of cap you will run out with either booster. This also means the only reason to fit an XL is if you run out of sheilds before you run out of cap. However from my experiance you will run dry on your cap long before your sheilds are down this means that you might as well fit a large booster since with that same amount of cap you get the same amount of shields. Thus giving you a fitting advantage if you use a Large.
