Almost without question, it is still the DDoS attack....and I don't blame CCP for not saying too much more on it right now... |

whoa... this is very VERY weird... i was able to log on and change skills from my PC (as opposed to my laptop that i normally log on from) which is just a few feet away from me. wtf man?
maybe i need to reboot my laptop? my pc had to download a patch and then it was able to log in. I'm not sure what is going on here. ... also, i should probably close my petition since i was able to get my next skill to start training.

Now that you mention it...
Im on a laptop as well and im pretty sure someone else in this thread mentioned that the same happened to them (could log in with a desktop computer but not a laptop).
However, when it comes to computers i know close to 0 so can be a coincidence.

Vipre Morte wrote:Cigolon wrote:Vipre Morte wrote:Asking for reimbursements is simply greedy. I'm grateful for what CCP has provided us, and this (probably) isn't their fault.
Anything that interrupts our ability to play from their end is by definition CCP's fault, either through apathy or lack of preparation. That said I'm still not upset about it, CCP cant exactly control what every sad nerd does with their time for jollies. They CAN control what kind of defenses they employ. Well it's not necessarily true that they can always prevent every failure. In this case it sounds like a DDoS attack. Sure, there are services like CloudFlare that are DDoS protections, but they don't work 100% (they increase the amount of traffic a site can take, but not infinitely), and really only works on content like websites, not so much MMO services. Welcome to the early 21st century Internet. DDoS is a current trend in cybersecurity that does not have a solid solution yet. EDIT: Also, you have to consider the business decisions CCP has to make. Almost every company on the planet would go bankrupt if they employed the best protections against every type of known attack. They have to prioritize their budget based on vulnerability risk assessment.
DDoS has a very solid solution. Ingress/Egress filtering. Don't allow traffic to leave your network with a spoofed source address. The problem is that all service providers need to implement it, and very few seem to be doing so. If you can't spoof the origin of attacks, then the compromised machines can be instantly identified, and quarantined, therefore any given botnet can be used exactly once, for a period of at most the few minutes that it takes for the necessary phone calls to be made between service providers.
We've known about the fundamental problem underlying internet architecture and its solutions for at least a decade now. Major service providers are still dragging their heels on solving it, just as email providers dragged their heels on closing open relays a decade or so earlier, until they were pressured to fix the problem. Maybe someone will start pressing lawsuits for ISP negligence and the problem will go away? |

I have the same problem on login. Central/North Europe here. Though I also had disconnects while playing yesterday, even lost a stabber.
Today I could play and do pvp after some failed login attempts.

East coast Australia and I had issues logging in last night got in eventually but it took multiple attempts.
Again tonight I cannot log in get past the toon selection screen but then it takes a minute and boom connection closed
This issue is not regional it is happening everywhere and is a flow on effect of the DDoS
Hopefully CCP gets it sorted soon it is very frustrating |

Haansu Mikairu wrote:Most DDoS attacks comprise of SYN Floods.
SYN floods are intended to overload the network stack of the targeted host, not saturate its bandwidth. Most providers mitigate those these days so they're not even used anymore. These days it's usually bruteforce UDP floods from botnets or CC frauded servers, and some of the nastier ones are, as you said, reflected from poorly configured public DNS resolvers and NTP servers. Stop being so melodramatic, firstly it's the weekend, you know that time of the week when most people have a couple of days off to spend with their family, I don't doubt CCP have people trying to mitigate it. Secondly CCP aren't the only ones being affected by the current DDOS attacks, and they're certainly by no means the biggest company being hit by them.
They'd have to go an awful lot further to compete with EA on the "look haw f'king terrible we are" stakes, CCP at least listen to the customers somewhat. |

They've done SP reimbursements in the past for similar events so it's not outside the realms of possibility.

Ok.
This is Odd, but might help someone else.
I logged into my next door neighbors wifi network (same ISP, but different WAN IP obviously), fired up EVE and *POOF* it works like magic.
Dunno why I didn't try this sooner..
My internet still doesn't work for EVE though, weird. |

CCP isn't American.
Also, none of your connection issues are CCP's fault, and it takes a lot more than just connection issues, occasionally, to get called "the worst company" of anywhere. You're overreacting. You don't scare me. I've been to Jita. |

Are people still having problems?
Was able to log in with my main but my second account get the same socket closed error I was getting last night. I'd hate to log out with my main to find I can't log back in.... Just used CCPs 4 hour activation to use a PLEX for my second account but I can't get it logged in.
Just curious if this is a problem on my end now or if others are still experiencing what was happening to me yesterday. |
