INTERCEPTORS TOO STRONG?
So as most of you are aware there has been heavy changes to the Frigate class ship known as the Interceptor. The most prolific of these change is the ability to move interdiction nullified, in a nut shell this allows for them to avoid all forms of 'bubbles' and 'drag' bubbles in 0.0 security space. This makes them very very hard to catch and therefore makes the life of a interceptor very easy and (almost) risk free in moving from system to system.
Current Interceptor Role Bonus:
80% Reduction in propulsion jamming systems activation cost. *immune to interdiction sphere launchers, warp disruption field generator and mobile small, medium and large warp disruptor.
Being a NULL SEC (0.0) pilot the changes have been both beneficial and a nightmare to me. The interceptor has gained massive benefits from the changes to eve in regards to warp speed and acceleration and deceleration changes and this puts it into its rightful place and I fully agree and enjoy these new changes. The ability for the Interceptor to warp around without fear of any form of 'bubble' is something I donGÇÖt agree with, the change I am suggesting is both a simple change and one that I hope can or will revive null sec PVP. My suggestion is to REMOVE the Warp disruption field generator immunity allowing ONLY the heavy interdiction cruisers to be able to catch, drag and stop them. This will enable interceptor pilots to be able to move around still 'freely' to a certain extent but will revive not only the use of Heavy Interdiction Cruisers but stop the constant flow of the massive almost UN-catchable interceptors fleets that are making 0.0 life boring and removing the normal fleets that use to roam from existence. They will still be very strong with this change but the 40mil (on average) 'I WIN' button will now have certain fears to avoid and think about while travelling.
I hope this can cause a discussion if nothing else and hope my feelings on this matter are shared to the wider eve community.
Regards Claytis
PS: This is not me crying about losing a ship to a interceptor roam or anything of the sort, in fact if you look at me KB you will see its normally me in the interceptor. This is just regards to my experience flying and living with these changes. :) |

Immunity to bubbles created a new nano age, and like the old nano age it's terrible balance and results in a binary ship option; "do I want to win? then I'll need nano/inty". The result of this plague of inties is that it completely messed up true solo pvp. It's easily the worst decision Fozzie And Rise have made so far. |

an interceptor by itself is not a threat.
A horde of interceptors vs an equal-sized fleet with logi will always lose as well.
A horde of interceptors is only a threat in a uneven numbers scenario. But in this case, a horde of anything is a threat, even a horde of ibises.
So no, dont cry nerf because you got blobed. If you were blobed in anything else, result would still be the same. |

Easiest way to fix this is to make it a module/skill
High Slot Module that only interceptors can fit, when active allows bubble immunity, but reduces lock time/range and takes up a high slot (less DPS)
So, if you want mobility and the ability to scout for your fleet and get out of bubbles, you fit for it.
If you want to take the risk of getting caught in exchange for catch your target faster and applying more damage, then do it.

But in all seriousness, there's no need nerf the nerf the intie's. Just adjust your tactics. As a solo pilot you should always have some sort of anti-tackle equipped. Use it... then leave before their friends show up.
Also, anything that reduces an interceptor's ability to perform in its roll, Such as reduced lock time or range, it's a terrible idea. |

Interestingly enough, we don't have bubbles in lowsec. So we don't get to bubble anything. And yet many things, including inties, still die daily. They're caught using skill, wits, and the proper ships and fittings designed to do so.
Bubble camps have made a certain subset of the null population lax and wholly ineffectual, lacking entirely the skills to tackle and pin down anything that is not first caught in a bubble. You need to read up and look at what I said.... I said not ALL kinds of interdiction bubbles JUST HICS! Also because you live in low sec then you would not need to worry about how OP a interceptor is, as if it engages you 9/10 its going to die as they are vey weak tanked. My point is the fact that they can run around almost un-catchable and go wherever they like, its like having a fly immune to all kinds of fly spray or insect replant.
Again please read before you post as you would also see I was talking about 0.0 NOT LOW Sec as that's where my experience lies.

I don't think that inceptors are completely broken, they just need a small tweak to the Bubble Immunity. Change Bubble immunity to Bubble resistance :) Bubble resistance - Drag Bubbles and block bubbles still pull them out of warp at the usual location that any other ship would be pulled out of warp, however the inceptor is not prevented from warping out of a bubble :) |

Furthermore, when people who do have the experience tell said nullsec babby that what he wants (a way to catch inties) already exists, he simply grows more petulant, because those ways are not the lazy ways he wants.
Inites are immune to bubbles now. All bubbles. Get over it.

Personally, I think the interdiction nullification mechanic itself is too strong, and that is what needs to change.
Several years ago, CCP had a patch that "accidentallied" the Interdiction Nullified subsystem of T3's. The nerf made it so Nullified ships could warp OUT of a bubble without issue, but if there was a drag/catch bubble at their warp destination, they'd get pulled into it.
I think that was an excellent balance for the interdiction nullification mechanic, and I wish they'd make such a change permanent!

Possibly a better way to put this:
Folks are saying Interceptors are unbalanced because they can (almost) always dictate the engagement. They can choose their target, choose their approach, and for the most part, can choose when to disengage. On the other hand, if some other group of ships comes in, there are plenty of options to turn the tide in my favor. I'm not the most seasoned of PvPers in the game, so take this with a grain of salt. I'm not sure I can think of any other ship class that can so easily dictate most of the elements of (dis)engagement.
On the other hand, a dedicated fleet of "anti-ceptors" (do you like that... I'd like to coin that phrase please) can engage and at least run them off, but again, as soon as the Interceptor fleet wants to leave, they will leave. In 0.0, its not always good enough to just run them off, because they will most of the time come back. So then you're stuck with a few options: stop doing what you're trying to do PvE-wise and wait around in your anti-ceptor, stick to what you're doing and wait for the swarm to arrive, or log in your high-sec mission alt and try to stay busy.
How close to the mark am I on this? Cedric

1) most soloers are kinda forced into kiting ships, for obvious reasons 2) kiting ships rely on being able to outmanoeuvre stuff they can't outdps and outdps stuff they can't outmanoeuvre 3) suddenly the perfect counter to kiting ships becomes hilariously OP to a point where they're now an epidemic, epidemics are never good becaus it kills other options and is a clear indication something is way too good 4) solo pvp is now dead
Binary ship or fitting choices that result in binary OP/not OP are terrible, just as nano fits were back then. "must bring a single type of ship/fit" is terribly boring and unbalanced. One can of course ignore that and go "lol I fly inties it's hilarious" but if one chooses to be realistic and not a hypocrite that's not a valid stance to have. |

I'd be good with this, on both T3s and interceptors. Penalize warping to gates stupidly, and re-enable ceptor-trapping bubble campers, but do not limit the mobility of either T3s or interceptors.
This is exactly what I was aiming for. |

1 so... most, as i stated
3 they're the most dangerous to solo kiters, the issue is that suddenly you see a whole bunch of them in a gang and a solo kiter simply can't deal with that realistically.
4 it certainly didn't help that you now see swarms of combat inties, I'm fairly sure OGB will be removed and I still do... ok true solo (and by that I mean i get kills at times). |

All you've said is "Inties can fly around freely and this is bad CCP fix it."
I ask you why and you just get all stroppy and say the same thing again.
What is your problem with the change other than it gives Inty pilots more freedom to fly around. And several others have poked (valid) holes in your argument and you've reacted the same way.

How about the light dictor that can load the regular inter. bubble or one that only disrupts inties? And maybe a script for the hic that only disrupts inties? That way they both have their choice. Makes it harder to travel safely in the lone inty but makes a gate camp decide what to go for when a fleet of mixed ships comes in. Of course, then the campers can just have 2 HICs, one with each script, or the same with the light d. *shrug* Personally, I think it would be fun for the HIC to have a heavy webbing script. I do like your suggestion of a script and very easy fix that would not take much to implement, much like the script fitted to HIC'S in order for them to point supers in low sec.

But in all seriousness, there's no need to nerf the intie's. Just adjust your tactics. As a solo pilot you should always have some sort of anti-tackle equipped. Use it... then leave before their friends show up.
Also, anything that reduces an interceptor's ability to perform in its roll, such as reduced lock time or range, is a terrible idea. Except bubbles never really did interfere in their role. Other than T3 with interdiction nullified sub everything that an inty would chase would also be caught in the bubble so it'd still be caught by the inty.
Changing the warp speed would have been sufficient for an inty to chase down and catch any ship even a nullified T3.
The correct way to make changes is gradually IMO. Adding the warp speed changes and then the nullified changes would have allowed proper evaluation of the changes. Perhaps another option to make the Ceptor a bit more balanced is to remove any and all Damage modifying Stat bonuses.
I'm OK with an interceptor catching me if I'm solo. I'm also OK with that interceptor holding me down with near impunity until his back-up arrives. I might be OK with 15 interceptors holding me down and all of them blowing me up (slowly). I am not OK with 15 interceptors flying around space with impunity, choosing when, where and how they engage, and being EASILY able to blow up any sub-capital ship in a matter of seconds and STILL being able to get away once they've committed to the engagement.
I want to hear of any other class/type or ship that can fill all of the roles the interceptor fills, all at the same time. Specifically:
Speed Tank, GTFO-ability, DPS (300 dps on a taranis...srsly!?!?) fastest warp, and 30km scram, ability to engage pretty much any ship, ability to disengage whenever they choose (and get away to the next system).

There's two inty types and they don't get the same bonuses, combat inties (Taranis for instance) doesn't get a 30km base point. |

That being said, and understanding I'm not up to date on all the changes that took place in last four years, but wouldn't a few Rapiers and Hyenas counter the intie blobs? Used to work for me well; in a Rapier I had 50km or more range on a web.
And to ask a clarifying question, can you still put a point on an intie, iIs the immunity just for bubbles? TBH I think stationary bubbles are the problem, not inties.

This is on the right track. A 30m frigate hull should not have something that requires a T3 to fit a specific subsystem and lose a low slot.
The solution is to have the bubble immunity given by a passive high slot module that when fit reduces agility, increases ship mass, and reduces warp speed. This way you can be bubble immune or instant warp, but not both. Right now interceptors get to have their cake and eat it too. |

I don't think its a knee-jerk reaction. And I also hope that CCP doesn't give up on this idea. What I hope, is that interceptors, rather than being THE fleet, become a very important part of a balanced fleet.
What I want to see is that the Interceptor intercepts, and that the rest of the fleet is a necessary part of the rest of the kill. If i fly around, by myself in any other support role (Lachesis for example), I will probably only win against a lone idiot. I will most likely get popped quickly if I come up against any semi-organized fleet and stupidly choose to engage. If I'm skilled enough, I'll choose not to engage and with luck I'll make it out of the system to fight another day.
I don't see the interceptor fitting into anything other than a support role (that of intercepting), yet here we are, with a fleet of support ships doing basically anything they want. DPS to kill almost every ship quickly, speed to tank or get away with only a few worries, and the ability to roam everywhere and anywhere they want to without significant risk.
Which might sum it up the best... Very high reward...very little risk.
My opinion, flame away :) Cedric

I like this idea, though I wouldn't limit it to interceptors. At the very least, make strategic cruisers need this module to get their bubble immunity with the subsystem that does it--it can have some other effect if you don't. And blockade runners have bubble immunity too right? Everyone with bubble immunity should have to fit a module for it, just like covert ops have to fit a covert ops cloak.
Also, to defeat or guard against interceptors, it helps to understand their weaknesses. One big weakness they have is CPU. They tend to have an extra high slot to fit a cloaking device, but if they fit one, it can cut their CPU more than they may be comfortable with. I'd wager that most of the more dangerous interceptors do not have one fitted. You can take advantage of this by cutting off their exits, then once you have them trapped you can bring in a scanning ship and chase them down. You might never catch the interceptor but you at least put him on the run, and he can't be used for attacking your fleet during that time. Fit a warfare link to your tech 1 battlecruiser. Train Wing Commander. Get in the Squad Commander or Wing Commander position. Your fleets will be superior to everyone else's. The argument is not about whether you can catch them or not. If I fit for it, yes I can catch one. However, that interceptor in almost every case will always dictate the engagement.
On the off chance 3 people in my gang have a Huginn, a Lachesis/Arazu and a Skirmish Booster and I do catch it, sure, it will die.
On the other hand, if I don't have that, or if the server ticks in the Interceptor's favor, that interceptor gang continues to choose every aspect of the next engagement. They can decide where, when, for how long, when to disengage and when to come back. There is no other ship type that can dictate all of those things, all at the same time. Each of those options, by themselves, are fine and good and add to the game. All of them in one ship is bad.
My stealth bomber/recon can get caught in a bubble, or is slow enough if I point it to take damage. My Blockade runner doesn't have enough DPS to do anything My *Insert non-interceptor nano ship* is fast enough to run away, but will get caught at a gate because it doesn't "insta-warp" My *insert every other ship in the game* will be committed to the fight for better or worse once it engages.
Put any sized gang of any ship composition against an even number of Interceptors and the worst case scenario is the Interceptors leave without taking losses. Best case is the other gang catches one or two interceptors and drives them off.
If any other gang of ships comes to my space, I can always force them to move in a certain way. If a ceptor gang comes to my space, they will always dictate every engagement, and THAT is the problem.

It seems like your only argument is "I can't catch it, therefore its OP". They are paperthin and die very, very fast. So what if they get to pick the fights? Neut or drones will make it back off very fast. And so what if it then decides to bail out again? Like in what possible way is that a reason to nerf it.

They dictate the engagement because those are literally the only options. I am forced to fight them that way, and at best they are simply "ran off." I can't pull some fancy, well thought out move and turn the table on them. I can't pull some hair-brained, yet super-lucky trick on them and get it to work. Put any other ship type in place of the interceptor and there are any number of ways I can turn the tables on them.
I like the fact that these ships are super fast. I like that they can get there and land before I enter warp. I'm glad they can point me from 30 km if they want. I'm glad they can fly around bubbles with impunity. The problem comes when they do it all at the same time, and that there is not consequence for committing to the engagement. I want to be intercepted by an interceptor, not blown up by it.
Every other ship type, even in gangs, has to seriously consider the consequences of committing to the fight. Interceptors have way too much freedom in this regard.
My opinion, flame away :) Cedric

I'd like to see interceptors have just 3 high slots, and having to give up a weapon to fit a bubble immunity module, or a cloaking device, or a neut. If they want to fit all 3 well.....that interceptor will be useful for a lot of things but shooting people won't be one of them.
I'd call that balanced. Fit a warfare link to your tech 1 battlecruiser. Train Wing Commander. Get in the Squad Commander or Wing Commander position. Your fleets will be superior to everyone else's. (had this sig BEFORE Odyssey BC rebalance) And bring back the missile Inquisitor!! |

Let's turn this around a little bit. Let's remove bubble immunity from the interceptors, but also remove bubbles except for HICs. Fair trade?
Seriously if anything is OP it is bubbles. It locks people out of significant areas of null sec space effectively barring the "good fights" everyone says they want. |

I've got two sides to this coin.
Firstly, as they are, inties are a great way to get more people into null, and it is working. It's also a good catalyst for more of that 'small gang' stuff everyone missed so much. In this respect, I think they are accomplishing exactly what CCP hoped for.
On the other side of the coin, I am by NO means a good inty pilot (just started with Rubicon), and have 160 kills to ZERO losses in a crow. So yeah...wondering about that overpowered bit. |

With the introduction of WH's any null area is only one or two jumps from high sec. All you need to do is take a bubble immune interceptor or covert ops alt to the area you want, scan a wh back to high and bring any ship you like through. I took 6 drakes and a rohk to deep stain the other day in about 40 minutes. Not a single bubble was encountered in my 2 jumps from high to there. Want to make billions a week solo running combat sites in null sec? -á Read my Exploratation Guide here -> https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=309467 |
