Thought I'd take a quick look in the alliances page after seeing all the posts about alliances folding and others forming.
The scroll bar went so frickin small i could barely grab it with my mouse - must thank someone in my I.T department for giving me a wheel mouse (not a fake one......Brrmm tst)
*Grissem holds for applause and laughter......silence.....tumbleweed floats accross
Anyways reason I'm posting this, just to be put in the picture, is there any particular reason as to why so many have sprouted up recently???? - am guessing it's to do with POS and the claiming of 0.0 territory and sovereignty etc or am I way off the mark here?? ------
This is for all you new people: I only have one rule. Everyone fights. No one quits. You don't do your job, I'll shoot you myself.

Ssssh more alliances there are, more that are willing to pay for our services
Im guessing its more to do with the bob factor. Big alliances are more trouble than there worth and things take so long to get done. As we have seen with bob the smaller tighter units are far more successful and work a whole lot smoother.

/geekmode on
well considering the corp vs. corp is 10 mill the "save" would be 40 million. so if we divide that through the 1 billion alliance cost so after 25 wardecs it would have paid off :)
so i would call it a rather longterm investment
not that my calculations made any sense

Most people who wardec very small corps are bullies. They look around, see a 3 month old char in a one to three man corp, and voila. 2 million is very little. Two cycles of a strip miner in 0.0 space. Empire hugging bullies can still do that in two hours mining of a single person, or a decent level 4 mission.
However, they wouldn't be very likely to want to wardec an alliance, @ 50 million a dec. I'm betting alot of these alliances are 3 to 10 man, for exactly this reason.
A great way to **** off the bullies : they wardec a one man corp, that corp forms a small alliance with another 1 or 2 1 man corps, and viola, 50 mill war bill, and the alt alliance dock. I then go play with my main, and they pay 50 million to camp a station for a week:) --------- "English doesn't borrow from other languages. As to the cost of making an alliance, how much is it worth to several tiny corps to prevent all that bullying? --------- "English doesn't borrow from other languages. English follows other languages down dark alleys, knocks them over, and goes through thier pockets for loose grammar. " |

It needs to be increased substantially IMO. It gets very wearing if part of a large alliance to have all these little "pvp corps" war deccing you every 5 mins in the hopes of getting a few hauler ganks in Jita.

Alliances don't seem to go away, either. People tend to leave a 1-man alt corp in a dead alliance in order to keep the name alive. I guess it is sort of understandable. At the very least, it is memorabilia.
I think CCP should offer some sort of ingame (or just on this website) tombstones for corporations and alliances that reached a certain size/prestige in stead. That would be totally cool. ------------------------------------------- "Never underestimate the power of language."

another reason Alliances are created is for the standings slots, corp = 300 max i think ? Alliance many more than 300, plus as a corp you cannot set standings to an Alliance, you have to set it to each individual corp in that Alliance.
or i am completely wrong

If you could grab Sov of a system without being in an alliance you would see a lot less alliances.

Ummm there was a time when 1bil was alot.. and there will be a time when 10bil isn't. Not for a collection of people that could be 1000's. another suggestion?
Minimum membership corp or player is a good idea.

Looking at all the corp-sized alliances, probably a number of factors: - Increased barrier to war decs - Sovereignty fuel savings on POS - Corps 'merging' but unwilling to give up their respective autonomy - Corps dividing assets across more hangars and more corp wallets - Corps dividing into multiple divisions - Old alliances never die, they just get run by an alt - Corps wanting to get on the rankings list so people see your name - Forming an alliance just cause it's a cool thing to do
Notice most of these are using game mechanics to achieve a deficiency in corp ability: - Claiming Sov - Insufficient Hangars - Only one corp wallet - Corps not expiring under a certain size
And ofc. - Alliances not expiring under a certain size (either members or corps)
Corp member size limitation isn't a factor, as you need empire control V to create an alliance, which allows 1250 members in one corp.

I think this thread would like a word with you...
I also think the current limit is 1300, but same gist. (10*5)+(50*5)+(200*5) = 50 + 250 + 1000 = 1300

Edited by: Snake Jankins on 21/04/2006 00:41:03 Somehow I don't see the problem. Makes no difference to me in 0.0. If I spot an unknow alliance in our space, then it's the same procedure as with an unknown independent corp. It doesn't affect my gameplay. I know the tickers of the alliances that are of importance to me, the rest is pointless. ___________ 'Only ships can be assembled, this is a Frigate.' |

VentureCorp has formed a few alliances for single corps (at a substantial surcharge of course). A lot of the time (especially for 0.0 corps) it is very hard to keep all standings straight unless you have the number of slots an alliance has. It also allows you to set standings to an alliance, instead of relying on the usually-behind alliance page to get the member corps. If CCP made it possible to set standings corp -> alliance, not so many slots would be needed, and you wouldn't see some of these alliances being formed. - - - - - - - - Encoded with ROT26 ù circumvention will be prosecuted! |
