I agree with others that losing 24 hours of training is unacceptable, but that should be easy enough to gift back.
All I would ask is a wee bit of notice so I can be properly fit!

Just do it on Sisi - as you have in the past. There is no reason to to this on TQ. |

It's funny to read all this ... and if they pull it off ... ... read about all the whiners who couldn't log on because of [whatever reason].
Also, it's quite unfair using Singularity for it, because plenty of people won't download around a few gigabyte twice ...
Not against the idea, just believing it's impossible to pull off without annoying most of us.
Altough seriously, it's a very biased present that will pretty much spur hatred in parts of the community ... ... which really shouldn't be the goal.

If there's some huge update which requires TQ to go offline for a whole day like with the original Armageddon Day, then sure, why not.
Doing it just for the heck of it and disrupting everyone else's regular Eve activities when there's a perfectly good test server people could use for shooting each other risk-free seems a little silly though. |

In the past they just used the TQ client connecting to the Sisi server. No need to DL anything:

You could log into Singularity instead, right after a mass test. Which happen pretty regularly. Also, you may not realize that most ships are seeded in navy stations at 100 ISK a pice. A lot of things are, as a matter of fact. Have at it. So it goes. |

I would totally go for it if you guys could somehow save the database before one DT, have a free-for all day and then the next day pretend it didn't happen and back up the DB from the day before. That would be awesome! Of course instead of Armageddon day it could be: Eve Online: GROUNDHOG DAY! |

Just wanna say he's not a goon, and actually a very good friend of mine.(Do you know who I am?) Incidentally he recently semi-retired from eve and I've been trying to convince him to come back.
A FFA day with no consequences afterwards, and perhaps a refund of a day's worth of SP would be AWESOME.
+1 for this idea.

EDIT - Just an FYI he was a complete carebear when he played eve...I've been trying to convince him to try PVP in eve and this might be a nice way to get him and other ppl who initially didn't know the joy of PvP and who can't be bothered to set up the test server to try pvp ;) |

Everyone keeps thinking 'Oh, everything can be replaced after 24 hrs.'
Sure, if a snapshot is done of the entire server just before it happens. All isk, ships, equipment, clones, implants, etc, will all be recorded and then after 24 hrs everything is set back to how the snap shot was. That means all the shinny loot, KM's and corpses earned during that 24 hr period will also be erased as well. So basically it's a waste of time and makes this 'Armageddon Day' useless.
So yeah, everything gets replaced except for the 24 hrs of missing skill training time and 24 hrs of disrupted game play.
Oh right, Credit of skill points added to all characters after that 24 hr period.
Just exactly how is that to be done?
Someone with a full set of +5 implants trains a higher amount of skill points than someone with no implants. Also would the amount of skill points be based on a rank 1 skill or a higher rank skill? Rank 1 skills have a faster training time thus more skill points would be trained.
So you say the amount of SP's will be based on the snap shot. OK, that would mean the skill rank being trained as well.
Snapshot of a player with a set of +5 implants training a rank 1 skill. That player then switches to a naked jump clone (No implants) and goes on a rampage and probably goes thru a few more j-clones. Then said player jumps back to main clone with the +5 implants just before the 24 hrs is over.
Snapshot shows him with +5 implants training a rank 1 skill and he gets credited massive amount of SP's when in reality he spent the majority of that 24 hr time period with no implants at all. He then uses those credited SP's on a rank 14 skill. This situation can also be viewed on the flip side. Suppose someone was going to buy a set of implants on that day? Problem is the snapshot only shows him with no implants thus he won't get the extra SP's due.
Also what about the players other accounts? Do they also get SP's even if they aren't active that day? And what about other alts on the same account? They all lost 24 hrs.
I'm sorry but this sounds like it could be exploited just to gain extra SP's or in some cases, short change players.
As for the disrupted game time, adding an extra 24 hrs to every account could balance out the numbers but it wouldn't replace that day.
Maybe a player had that specific day free from real life obligations and was going to do some mining to refuel his POS that only has a couple days of fuel left. He logs in to see all hell is breaking loose and Concord is nowhere to be seen. He tries to do his plan but get's ganked every time he turns around. That player now can't do his regularly planed game play and logs back out. Unfortunately that player can't log back in til next week due to real life obligations. By then the POS is out of fuel and open to attack.
Even if it's just one player that is inconvenienced like that, the whole idea of 'Armageddon Day' becomes nullified. I sincerely think that most players will not want their game play disrupted by this 'Armageddon Day'.
Sorry to point all this stuff out but if you really want to go on a 24 hr shooting spree, better go jump on the test sever.

A very dumb idea.
For example players might jump their caps and supercaps into Amarr, or Jita if the systems become 0.0 for a day.
Make an Armgeddon day on Singularity and you do what you want, but this as far away from TQ as possible. |

hows it dumb? even if everyones caps are in jita, on the day, the following day, theyll all be back in stations where they all undocked them from to jump down.
Everyones ships, wallets & anything else they got going, will all be back to pre armegeddon. Nothing lost, nothing gained as they say |

My 10cents
If we assume the no consequence route (TQ does a roll back).
The Pros
Everyone will participate with all ships Empire ppl will get a taste of null-sec life I believe it will be alot more fun - ship replacement will not be a issue (you can fly and lose it all) The BIGGEST plus is that CCP can do LIVE TQ stress testing !!!!
The Cons Everyone will participate with all ships - it will be a fiasco Empire ppl will get a taste of null-sec life or may not even log in (too attached to their pixels) CCP could have a corrupt backup and may NOT be able to roll-back, Many tears would ensue The server cluster may not be able to handle it and BSOD would be the order of the day.
I would love it
I am aware of my own ignorance, and painfully aware of yours |
