Armageddon Day(s). Just let people have it out everywhere for a day or so. High sec becomes Battlefield Null for a while as people move to play king of the hill in Jita for a while.
After the said event is over everything is reset back(except skills which will train always). I Support the Goons! |

Would you still like to have an Armageddon Day if you can't keep the skillpoints which were trained during that day?

I'd be fine with this as long as skill points were reset to what they were the day before and no assets/isk are lost/gained (because otherwise many of the targets will just not be on that day).
EDIT: better would be to give SP for the day, but I'm not picky.... |

No skill points for 24 hrs?

Sorry, that's completely unacceptable.
If you want to give Concord a 24 hr vacation and let all hell break loose, fine. Just make sure everyone is notified by Eve mail everyday for at least a week prior to the event. Also all security status hits still count. Furthermore, all equipment lost shall not be replaced. Also all new player starter systems will still have Concord present and ready for action.
One more thing, all characters shall continue training skills and gaining skillpoints.
While that's happening, I'll just count how many minutes it takes for the Eve universe to implode and then count the hours it takes to recover from the server crash. |

I assume the loss of the SP is because if you are resetting everything back to the way it was a day earlier, its easiest if EVERYTHING is reset including SP?
If so, then just gift a days worth of SP to everyone along with the reset.
But for me this would just be a day I don't bother to log in. I get no pleasure from PvP combat, even when I'm on the winning side. |

The American public's reaction to the change was poor and the new cola was a major marketing failure. Yes. But it doesn't have to be either/or. You have a mechanism to give free SPs. You could do a 24 hour Armageddon day, during which we would all agree to have your future babies, then give everyone 3000 skill points (or whatever) lapsed in the interim...

Then you'd just have the bears docked up or logged off, and the rest pewpewing with cheap ships they don't care about losing. Boring! I want to spend my money on big expensive ships and then explode them without worrying about money or lost implants or sec status or standings or kill rights or all those other annoyances.

Also, it's quite unfair using Singularity for it, because plenty of people won't download around a few gigabyte twice ...
Not against the idea, just believing it's impossible to pull off without annoying most of us.

If there's some huge update which requires TQ to go offline for a whole day like with the original Armageddon Day, then sure, why not.
Doing it just for the heck of it and disrupting everyone else's regular Eve activities when there's a perfectly good test server people could use for shooting each other risk-free seems a little silly though. |

Just wanna say he's not a goon, and actually a very good friend of mine.(Do you know who I am?) Incidentally he recently semi-retired from eve and I've been trying to convince him to come back.

I would totally go for it if you guys could somehow save the database before one DT, have a free-for all day and then the next day pretend it didn't happen and back up the DB from the day before. That would be awesome! Of course instead of Armageddon day it could be: Eve Online: GROUNDHOG DAY!
Everyone keeps thinking 'Oh, everything can be replaced after 24 hrs.'
Sure, if a snapshot is done of the entire server just before it happens. All isk, ships, equipment, clones, implants, etc, will all be recorded and then after 24 hrs everything is set back to how the snap shot was. That means all the shinny loot, KM's and corpses earned during that 24 hr period will also be erased as well. So basically it's a waste of time and makes this 'Armageddon Day' useless.
So yeah, everything gets replaced except for the 24 hrs of missing skill training time and 24 hrs of disrupted game play.
Oh right, Credit of skill points added to all characters after that 24 hr period.
Just exactly how is that to be done?
Someone with a full set of +5 implants trains a higher amount of skill points than someone with no implants. Also would the amount of skill points be based on a rank 1 skill or a higher rank skill? Rank 1 skills have a faster training time thus more skill points would be trained.
So you say the amount of SP's will be based on the snap shot. OK, that would mean the skill rank being trained as well.
Snapshot of a player with a set of +5 implants training a rank 1 skill. That player then switches to a naked jump clone (No implants) and goes on a rampage and probably goes thru a few more j-clones. Then said player jumps back to main clone with the +5 implants just before the 24 hrs is over.
Snapshot shows him with +5 implants training a rank 1 skill and he gets credited massive amount of SP's when in reality he spent the majority of that 24 hr time period with no implants at all. He then uses those credited SP's on a rank 14 skill. This situation can also be viewed on the flip side. Suppose someone was going to buy a set of implants on that day? Problem is the snapshot only shows him with no implants thus he won't get the extra SP's due.
Also what about the players other accounts? Do they also get SP's even if they aren't active that day? And what about other alts on the same account? They all lost 24 hrs.
I'm sorry but this sounds like it could be exploited just to gain extra SP's or in some cases, short change players.
As for the disrupted game time, adding an extra 24 hrs to every account could balance out the numbers but it wouldn't replace that day.
Maybe a player had that specific day free from real life obligations and was going to do some mining to refuel his POS that only has a couple days of fuel left. He logs in to see all hell is breaking loose and Concord is nowhere to be seen. He tries to do his plan but get's ganked every time he turns around. That player now can't do his regularly planed game play and logs back out. Unfortunately that player can't log back in til next week due to real life obligations. By then the POS is out of fuel and open to attack.
Even if it's just one player that is inconvenienced like that, the whole idea of 'Armageddon Day' becomes nullified. I sincerely think that most players will not want their game play disrupted by this 'Armageddon Day'.
Sorry to point all this stuff out but if you really want to go on a 24 hr shooting spree, better go jump on the test sever.

A very dumb idea.
For example players might jump their caps and supercaps into Amarr, or Jita if the systems become 0.0 for a day.
Make an Armgeddon day on Singularity and you do what you want, but this as far away from TQ as possible. |

hows it dumb? even if everyones caps are in jita, on the day, the following day, theyll all be back in stations where they all undocked them from to jump down.
Everyones ships, wallets & anything else they got going, will all be back to pre armegeddon. Nothing lost, nothing gained as they say |

My 10cents
If we assume the no consequence route (TQ does a roll back).
The Pros
Everyone will participate with all ships Empire ppl will get a taste of null-sec life I believe it will be alot more fun - ship replacement will not be a issue (you can fly and lose it all) The BIGGEST plus is that CCP can do LIVE TQ stress testing !!!!
The Cons Everyone will participate with all ships - it will be a fiasco Empire ppl will get a taste of null-sec life or may not even log in (too attached to their pixels) CCP could have a corrupt backup and may NOT be able to roll-back, Many tears would ensue The server cluster may not be able to handle it and BSOD would be the order of the day.
I would love it

Sounds good to me. Just please take a survey of your subscribers before you commit to anything.
Make absolutely sure they know they won't get SP for that day.
You may also want to do some market seeding on said day. |

I agree with the whole test server thing, but the ONLY thing that affects training speed is implants. you do NOT gain skill points any faster training a rank 1 skill over a rank 6 skill. A rank one skill SEEMS faster because you actually have fewer sp to train in order to advance it one skill level.
IE: Spaceship command (rank 1) level 4 -> level 5= 210745 sp
Battlecruisers (rank 6) level 4 -> level 5 = 1264470 sp |

This is a great idea. Full day of free for all slaughter and awesome, then reset everything like it never happened.
I won't even mind the loss of skill (though I wouldn't turn down a compensatory bundle of SP).
This would be a chance for all the care bears (like me) to cut loose and try some mayhem. I love it.

Sancha take out cloning bays so people are reset 1 days training
Concord took responsibiliy and is refunding all lot ships.
Esentially do the event and then roll back......have some rp explanation...maybe a GM in a few supers to make it crazy.
Make a good demo of time dialation.

Just skimmed over the entire thread and I must say... gawd daymn! Some people need to get back to basics and relearn how to have pointless fun for the sake of pointless fun.
Killmails? Who cares. You have the story. Tell it to future players. With no corroborating "evidence" (aside from some peers maybe) you can tell a good story and embellish a bit for effect. No SP gain for a day? Comon. That's 24 hours out of... how long have you been playing? I've been playing for 3 years. That's 1,095.75+ days. I'd be willing to give up one or two of those days of training for an epic free-for-all with no real tangible gains/consequences. Afraid of losing ****? Everything get's rolled back after 24 hours. Go wild and do all the stupid dumb crap that you've always thought about doing. Pimp out that Nightmare with 8 bil in officer mods and jump into a gatecamp. Refit your mission ship, get together with a bunch of other carebears in their refitted missions ships, and Leeroy into the lion's den of pirate scum!!! It's not like you'll be ACTUALLY risking your ship (you get it back the way it was in 24 hours).

They don't want it on the test server.
What they want is not even a combat functionality test.
It's not even a "let's have a huge death match and a ton of fun!".
It's all about those people in high sec who will not know - being casual players not watching the forums and ads- getting griefed and even if the loss is not permanent, greifers are still going to enjoy getting a rise out of somebody.
If I want to play a death match, I got COD2 for that.
Here's a deal: let's have an Armageddon or "I had a really bad dream that everything went Mad Max" day, but make sure that EVERY player gets an email notice first from CCP.
Doesn't seem so attractive now, does it?
That would mean the griefables would either not log in (because nothing you do will last win or lose) or they might gear up combat ships and get ready to have a good time.
I would bet that most of the people thinking this is a good idea expect to catch others as they try to mine an mission, not having gotten the memo, and greif them while relishing in the tears.
I would love to see a Mad Max destructo-bonanza but I would also hope everybody gets the memo first.
And there is also a liability. Even if the loss is not permanent, if I they to deal with "AWW UMAD UGOT PWNED NOOB GBTW LOLZ PHAG HEADSHOT!!" they would decide that not having to put up with people like that at all and having the choice means no more sub. Even people who know it's just a game will decide not to have to put up with semi-autistic griefers.
