Right now it is easier to just give RL moneys to your enemies than it is to pay for a war. Between us our last war cost about $1000 between PLEX and Russian forum dues.
This new griefer corp wants a $600 visa gift card, and some of our busier alliance mates have offered to pay. As a matter of principle I had to decline looks like another collection will be taken.
War is ISK and ISK is money.
CCP please find a way to reduce the RL financial burden of operations in null, doing work in-house rather than dumping RL money in Jita and praying the JF makes it thirteen trips a month.
Getting rid of sovereignty payments would go a long way in the right direction.

This has got to be trolling, right? If you take Eve so seriously that you will part with RL cash to prevent a war, then you either need to man up and learn how to defend your space, or admit you're not well equipped enough to defend your space and get the hell out of Dodge (or whatever system you are in). And then stop paying stupid money and go get a life. What happens if you don't pay them? They blow your widdle ships up? Awww.

You may be missing the real meat of this issue.....
The post alleges there is real life cash and monies being used as a meta-tactic in EvE.
The very moment any corp or alliance attempts to extort another via out-of-game mechanisms....is the very moment said corp needs to be exposed to CCP. |

I gotta agree... sounds like you are doing it wrong. This is the craziest thing I've heard about in EvE yet. I mean... am I even reading this right? Are you are paying RL money out of game for virtual internet spaceships ransom or services?

Colour me unsurprised. It's a whole other game out in Mother Russia. Real-world crime and in-game crime sort of blend together.
The Mittani wrote:The bad crazy goes beyond dropping 100 large on internet spaceships, though. About two years ago, Goonswarm was aiding our allies, Red Alliance (RA, the aforementioned 'rats' with whom SirLordex is cross) in the invasion of the Scalding Pass region against Lotka Volterra and their coalition. Lotka Volterra had unveiled one of the first Titans against us to catastrophic consequences, and at the time these profoundly silly ships were nearly impossible to kill through legitimate in-game means; they were essentially invulnerable, with the only Titans destroyed through catching the ship while the pilot was disconnected from the game. It was determined that 'The Enslaver' and his Avatar-class Titan had to go. I was approached by one of the leaders of Red Alliance to help make this happen, but almost immediately we were down the rabbit hole. Much to my surprise, the RA director didn't want in-game information from me; he wanted us to use the forensic resources of our intelligence agency to trace down The Enslaver's home address. At a coordinated time, armed with this information, a RA member would apparently cut the power to The Enslaver's house in the real world, and in EVE a RA capital fleet would assault the abruptly pilotless Titan. man its one thing to plex it up every now and then to buy more ships to lose, but to pay for a war??
yup, you're doing it wrong
and if you had chat logs, I think demands for RL monies are probably against the rules The American public's reaction to the change was poor and the new cola was a major marketing failure. The subsequent reintroduction of Coke's original formula, re-branded as "Coca-Cola Classic", resulted in a significant gain in sales, leading to speculation that the introduction of the New Coke formula was just a marketing ploy |

I had heard anecdotal stories that some entities give you the choice between paying your dues in ISK or - at a more favorable conversion rate - in RL money. But the amounts discussed were nowhere near 600-1000$.
Maybe a troll, but not too surprised if it turns out to be real. |

The part that ruins it is, if we fight and "win" we hold sovereignty for a few months longer. If we pay we get blue status and our 10 month ROI on sovereignty is almost a certain payout.
Add in the possibility of losing and it was a very hard and potentially a bad call.
As a follow-up the offer was "clarified" assume they read this, but they wanted "45 PLEX" and stated the original offer was a typo from machine translation.
Who knew "$ 600 visa" and "45 PLEX" were so similar in Russian. :-P

Wait, are you serious? Six hundred bucks ransom in real-life monies? And here I thought I had things figured out with my standard nine-figure ISK ransoms, but...

Seriously?
Firstly, anyone who would pay this even if it was legal is an idiot. As has already been said, tell them to **** right off, see how long their attention span lasts.
Secondly, I'm 100% sure that demanding IRL money to stop a war is against the EULA or TOP, and if you petition them with proof, they'll get banned quick smart.
I'm not certain, but I suspect people in my country could actually get arrested for trying to pull that... |
