Dealing with pirates.
1. Run. He who fights and runs away, lives to fight another day. DonĘt bother taking on a 25 million SP character in a HAC. If you see a flashing red or yellow character on your screen, warp away immediately. Set up instas (there are guides on this forum or do a search) to your home base and agent base. When you warp in to an unscouted zone turn off autopilot (you will stay cloaked for 30 seconds on the other side), if you see a gate camp look to see what direction your ship is pointing and then warp to an object that is in a straight line. If you donĘt have to turn you may warp out fast enough that the campers wonĘt get you. Most pirates need to be in 15-20km to warp scramble you, use that to your advantage.
2. Pay attention to local. Look at who is in your system in general negative sec rating = pirate. If there are 8 pirates in the same corp be super cautious going to a gate, they are probably camping at least one. Warp in at maximum distance and if you see a bunch warp out immediately. Warp out of maximum distance and back at 15 km if the coast is clear. If you have a good insta you can probably just run the blockade. Set a path to the next system and use autopilot, it will jump you quicker than if you do it manually. Turn off autopilot as soon as you hear that you are jumping, you never know what is on the other side. If there are pirates in your system stick to mission running, as they may be cruising the belts.
3. Be polite. DonĘt smack talk in local. You donĘt want to give Pirates a reason to hunt you down. A dedicated pirate WILL be able to find you, so try to not make yourself an attractive target by mouthing off in local or bragging about your expensive fittings. If a pirate does capture you be nice, pirating is difficult work, and catching someone is an achievement. If your ship is about to be destroyed I recommend spamming the warp command. Usually you can warp away in your pod before they re-lock and rescramble you. If they catch you and they offer to ransom listen respectfully and be honest about what you are willing to pay. I am usually willing to pay implant costs + clone costs + 1-2 million (I would pay more if I had a decent character). If they are unwilling to accept that ransom politely thank them and ask them to pod you, explain to them it doesnĘt make financial sense to live. Afterwards congratulate them on a good kill and say you have no hard feelings.
If they have your pod locked and you really want to save you implants you can log out. This will prevent them from podding you. Be aware though that this REALLY ****es pirates off. I would recommend waiting at least 6-8 hours before relogging, as pirates have been known to camp for a LONG time get a longer. Also, be aware that in future interactions they will probably pod you immediately and go out of their way to hunt you down. Some argue this is an exploit, but I donĘt feel that way, especially when you just got clobbered by someone sitting on 30 million SP in a T2 HAC, but be aware it is in poor taste.
