Memory leaks don't just happen suddenly when nothing has changed. We have not applied any hotfixes to the cluster for weeks and there is no reason to believe that macro miners are causing very weird memory usage behavior on the proxies. Memory on the proxies is not being gradually consumed like would happen in a memory leak but instead the proxies are allocating gigabytes of memory for a few minute and then releasing it and then doing the same again.
Welcome to the world of memory allocation in windows.
If you were using a real server os you'd be able to watch the allocation in real time, and even adjust the allocation model via os tools. In windows, well, you get to watch it crash and burn.

Wait a minute.
Is this a new guy in CCP? If it is, have you done a background check to make sure he's not some kind of industrial spy from a competitor?

Poor server. As I understand Valar, weird things are happening and they have no idea why it's happening. Nothing's been changed recently, etc, so they get to a ton of detective work during the next downtime (which may or may not be interesting).
Or it goes away and drives you guys nuts (for not really knowing why it's being caused). Memory quirks drive me nuts.

Who put the female hamster in the cluster?
Now all the male hamsters stop to look then have to go really fast to catch up.. This would explain the huge allocations (when they stop) then the release of resources (when they catch up)..

Well Sephir if you treat your customers well and dont lose sight of the fact thats its they that pay the bills - they can take almost any amount of crud. I cant express how annoying it has been that it should happen on a uk bank holiday the one day i had hoped to get a good days gameing in. But now that i know that its a problem and not CPP just tinkering then i can live with that - it happens. As long as you keep people informed instantly. It stops tempers riseing and rumours spreading i find.

Edited by: Apixeuj on 02/05/2006 02:15:52 I have a recommendation.
Add a section just below the Eve Banner (the one with the 1-2-3)
The area would be wide enough for two things
1 -- A Server Status display On the left - Up/Down Members online last 5 minutes -- AND -- when the server is down, the approx return time. AND possibly a reason for the server downage.
2 -- Move the Server Graph to this area on the right.
This will accomplice two things.
1 -- when the server is down, people will have an idea of how long it may be down and possibly why it is down.
2 -- I find the Server Graph interesing and I think that others will also. You might also add a dotted line showing the current max members online record.
All in all CCP has been doing a great job. The only problem I have had is not enough information

This is one good reason why it would be nice if we could automatically continue training a skill we already have after the one we are currently training finishes. Especially when we can't long on.
Of course, I'm only talking about the skills we have skill points in- the ones on the character sheet.

Is Linux really that good? Maybe it is a hardware problem that CCP is experiencing? Maybe it is some kind of library files that have been corrupted during power spikes and are giving problems? Maybe it is human error? Thousand of possibilities but to say Linux is the paracetamol for server problem is just a bit inappropriate. I am pretty certain if there is a problem with servers running Linux, they wont be easy to fix with a click of a button. ---------------- May 1st - We love Khatred day. RecruitMe@NOINT! |

See, the best side of Windows servers is that you can scare them to work properly! No need to spend hours configuring some mundane thing.

I just noticed, that it is possible to login to TQ using the patch 3902. Perhaps some used this patch on TQ altough it is meant only for the Dev-Server. (Perhaps it¦s not compatible with the code of the proxy-servers)
PLEASE DON`T TRY TO USE THIS PATCH ON TQ, UNLESS ANYBODY OF CCP ALLOWS IT!
