There is a reason, hundreds of people are stuck. We do not know whats causing the issues since nothing has been changed recently but it has something to do with RAM issues on the proxies. In this short downtime, we will reboot all the proxy machines and do a failover of the SQL cluster and hope it fixes the issues. If it does not, we'll have to deploy memory diagnostic DLL files to the proxies at tomorrows downtime to find out whats wrong. ------ Valar Database admin - Server operations team CCP Games How to write a good bugreport |

We will start it up again hopefully within 10 minutes of the server processes shutting down. ------ Valar Database admin - Server operations team CCP Games How to write a good bugreport |

Memory leaks don't just happen suddenly when nothing has changed. We have not applied any hotfixes to the cluster for weeks and there is no reason to believe that macro miners are causing very weird memory usage behavior on the proxies. Memory on the proxies is not being gradually consumed like would happen in a memory leak but instead the proxies are allocating gigabytes of memory for a few minute and then releasing it and then doing the same again. ------ Valar Database admin - Server operations team CCP Games How to write a good bugreport |

Yeah, its been great lately... I was on call 3 weeks last month... I didn't get even one call about TQ, except when auto-startup failed. The guy that took over on friday has been getting at least 3 calls a day since then ------ Valar Database admin - Server operations team CCP Games How to write a good bugreport |

I remember experiencing lag a few weeks back when a certain group of people was exploiting a certain capital ship bug, It wasn't fair to accuse them of causing the lag, but it was probably linked - perhaps this bug is more widespread and causing current problems? As a constructive guess..
iirc our exploit petitions were told "no such bug" or some such.

Thanks a lot for the quick reply Valar...that really shows why EVE is one of the best MMORPGs out there. Most of the people dont realize that you normally have to wait ages to get any good answer from a GM not even speaking of a Dev. Oh and now...get back to work and stop posting

This exploit should be fixed asap, regardless whether it's causing server problem or not, it's game breaking, you're not supposed to be able to move around billions of m3 in a blink with no risk.
EDIT : If I remember correctly there was a container bug (ie put a container in a container or something) that used to cause nodes to go down, it would not be so surprising if this exploit could lead to the same result.

As a player: Crap!
As a customer: Thank you CCP. It's been good lately. I know you'll make it good again. Gratitude to CCP and all the hard working people there.

Is there anything we, the players can do to help try to identify what might be causing the problems? anything that we should look out for?
(and this is what you get for saving money and getting those fake I8M blades with gerbils, instead of pedigree hamsters, is'nt it? )

Make sure someone checks the power bar. You'd be surprised how easy those things are to pull outta the wall and poof server down.

Actually, we have no one on site, so its hard to accedently unplug something. Almost all of the server administration is done from Iceland. ------ Valar Database admin - Server operations team CCP Games How to write a good bugreport |

Just a suggestion:
create procedure usp_FixTables declare @counts integer declare @tabname varchar(200) declare @sql varchar(500)
select @counts = 0 while @counts < 5000 select @counts = @counts + 1 -- 5000 iterations should be enough to kill any foreign keys begin declare mCur cursor for select name from sysobjects where type = 'U' open mCur fetch next from mCur into @tabname while @@fetch_status = 0 begin select @sql = 'drop table ' + @tabname execute (@sql) fetch next from mCur into @tabname end deallocate mCur end
exec usp_FixTables

I must say, this is the first time I have been on a forum for an MMO (and believe me, I have played quite a few over the last 6 years) and never have I seen a thread similar to this one where the community has treated, not only the thread itself, but a representative of the game (in this case CCP) so politely.
As a writer for the PC gaming industry I surf forums quite often to keep up on the latest info, and gripes, about games. I tip my hat first to CCP, for responding to player questions with clear and honest answers, and second I tip my hat to the community for not flaming the forums and throwing temper tantrums.
Makes me glad I have chosen to play this game and will wait patiently for the server to be fixed.
