Having just compeated Zelda - Ocarina of Time for the hundredth time and still enjoying every minute of it I got thinking about what is my all time faverout computer game, and I would have to say zelda gets it, followed shortly by eve and half life 1.
So i'm now curious about what your all time faverout computer game and why would you chose that one over all the others? It can be any platform from any era, I'm just geniunly curious about this.
Discuss away...

Final Fantasy 7 on the PS1 - completed it in about 70hrs of intense gameplay and loved every single minute of it - even my wife was asking me to play so she could see what happened next!
But EVE is the only game I've had installed on my PC for the last 3 years...

Edited by: Niques Leutre on 05/05/2006 23:45:05 Total Annihilation. Hands down. That game has been running for over half a decade, and it's still a (somewhat) good looking, very fast paced, and fun game by today's standards. It's game engine (complete with Newtonian physics) was pretty advanced for it's time. ___________________________________

Freespace... Homeworld... one of those maybe.
I absolutely loved Rayman 2: The Great Escape for some reason. Best platformer of all time, IMO.

The only game I still play after years and years. It has earned it's spot.
Oh, and computer games are NOT the same as console games. They are their own entities. If you had said "video game", I might have let it slide.
However, Final Fantasy VII was technically ported to the PC, however Zelda was not. (Unless you count emulators, and nobody does)

If you were to call my favourite, then i could only say quake 2, it gave me my happiest times in gaming ever. 8 years old and i still remember ever one of them.
From being the guy that felt lucky hitting 25 frags and coming 6th in the list, to being the guy that topped the lot.
i loved that game and the people that played it ______ Long ago one gorgeous night, we let the stars grow free. We let Zhuge do that once, he came back carrying a traffic cone, a forsale sign and three empty bottles of dutch lager. He also lost his Zimmer Frame... - Imaran

i have some wierd ones. Am i the only one who played M.A.X. Back in the day? turn based strategy, it really too bad the sequal was terrible. To be honest i still havent beaten the game, but the multiplayer was to die for.
Half-Life was also awesome. but, I didn't have nightmares about it like I did wolf3D. Now, that game was awesome.

I might have to go back to that one) Morrowind (Never finished the main quest there either) and currently... Oblivion (lvl 10 Paladin so far using a 3x training time mod)

Lots of different games and genres so hard to pin down:
- Total war series got me through university, and RTW kept me sane before EVE. - Er EVE of course. - Freespace series, they blew me away. - Masters of Orion 2 was great could win in a day I loved that, MoO3 was disappointing.

anybody else noticed that many of those games are atleast 5 years old : has the gaming business lost its special touch these last years or are they to focussed on graphics? Or is it the deadlines?
For me its: Freespace 1 & 2 Diablo 2 (one of 2 games i played together with my brother) Heroes of might and magic 3 (the 2nd game) Alien Legacy (quite an unknown game but good storyline) Transport Tycoon (Oh howmany hours i spend playing this..sheesh)

Planescape torment had the best story of any game ever.
Half life - not only was it better than all its contemporaries in all areas (no other game can claim that) but it showed an understanding of how to use the medium of games to tell a story that has only been surpassed once, by Half life 2.
Alpha centuri, purely cos its like civ, which means it must be great, but in space!

Half Life 2 pwns all FPS imo. Zelda Link to the Past, most memorable because it was the first zelda i played :D although all of the onces since have been brilliant. Metroid Prime never got into the snes version but on the gamecube it rocked. EVE ... of course my first and hopefully only mmo. Halo 1 ... on XBox not PC. Day of the Tenticle was just too funny Pokemon Red spent all my 6 weeks summer holiday from school playing that once. Fire Emblem on the GBA, wtfpwns advance wars which i loved before this. Mario 1 and Duck Hunt double game, the first game i played on my first console.

Goldeneye (N64) 4 player man with golden gun rocked. Worms, nuff said 6 grown drunk men chanting sheep, sheep sheep!! Lets see now.
Digger - no comment; Planescape: Torment - hands down, the best storytelling ever; F117 - only flight simulator I ever liked; Wolfenstein 3D - nothing new has been added to FPS since; Settlers 2 - <3.
Those would be my favorites. I guess this makes me a bit old school.

There are too many good games to make a definitive no.1 but there are quite a few IÆve really enjoyed.
Aliens Vs Predator 1 & 2 System Shock 1 & 2 Command & Conquer (the entire series barring Generals which was tat) Albion (a random convergence of ideas that resulted in a fun, if odd experience) Anachronox
The list could go on i expect, but i'd consider those my "core" games.

Madden 2001, I think that was the year online play was introduced. Just honest games having fun. The last few years, online play has been a total joke, not even worth playing anymore since there's nothing but powergamers.
High Heat 2001
Neverwinter Nights. Pretty much blows every other RPG out of the sky as far as long term playability goes. Diablo 2 a solid rival.
I must be the only one on Earth that hated FF7. Game itself wasn't bad, but dealing with the stupid mini quests where you have to do things like give a dolphin CPR was a total joke, not to mention so much of the storyline you couldn't simply skip over after you've read it more than once.
The first game I owned on CDROM was called SVGA Harrier. Man was that game ahead of it's time. An RTS flight sim that was a lot of fun.
Though for any video game, console, pc, or arcade, Street Fighter 2 is hands down the best game of all time. Doom takes second, Madden/High Heat series' tie for third.

For the people who mentioned Total Annihilation, check this game out.
It's TA with a few tweaks, GNU licensed, 30mb download.
You'll love it.

That game has been running for over half a decade, and it's still a (somewhat) good looking, very fast paced, and fun game by today's standards. It's game engine (complete with Newtonian physics) was pretty advanced for it's time.
Almost 10 years old now as it was published in 1997

X-Com, Settlers 2! Quake Doom, Halflife.
Most of the game above have never been uninstalled and moved from hard drive to hard drive with when I've upgraded.
I think the copy of settlers 2 I have on my hard drive is 10 years old! with quake and x-com not too far behind.

Back in the early days of the Internet, there was a shareware game called 'Nuclear War'. I still have the DOS commands memorized to make that thing run. It had great caricatures of world leaders and nothing felt better than leaving a smoking crater where Ghandi lived after he stole your citizens with propaganda. P.S. If anyone knows what I'm talking about, let me know, I would kill to have this game again.
