We're recording the next High Drag Podcast tonight, and the theme will be Heroes and Villains of Eve Online. I'm looking for some feedback on who your heroes and villains are within the game.
Keep in mind, that your heros and villains do not have to fit into the traditional notion of right and wrong, good and evil. Just please give an explanation for your picks.
Cheers.

I agree. I've been mulling this over for a bit; I'm having a hard time coming up with a pick for either Hero or Villain.
Hero: Anyone who gets a new player to stay in game. Villain: Anyone who pushes a new player away from the game?

A hero is just someone you look up to for inspiration. Nothing to do with player retention. Things are only impossible until they are not. |

Be very, very careful what you say. Someone may become 'unhinged' or 'emotionally distressed' to the point that it may be considered 'cyber bullying' or 'deformation' if you classify them as a hero or villain.
You have been warned.....CCP/CSM 'white knights' will be monitoring.

I've always thought that there really are no "good guys" or "bad guys" in Eve. You (hopefully, and if you're lucky) find a group of people you like and get along with, and then it's you and yours vs. everyone else.
Either the rules apply to everyone, or they don't justly apply to anyone.

Thanks for the definition, but I disagree. A common quality among capsuleers who inspire (in my opinion) center around the notion of new player retention. Whether that is fleeting up members from the Scope, and taking them out to lowsec... or teaching a slingshot mechanic.

I see that the Supervillain category is mysteriously absent from this survey....
I guess not everyone in New Eden can have a Amamake asteroid volcano lair with a CCP Dev hanging upside down over a pool of ill tempered space sea bass while he sits in his magnificently adourned seat of power and monologues while a large over the top laser moves unnecessarily slow towards the trapped Dev because for some reason shooting him didn't seem like a great option to dispose of him and his second in command has second thoughts at the last moment and ends up shooting him while taking a bullet heroically for the girl, who has fallen in love with the second in command even after he was the one who masterminded her kidnapping and interrogation and the Dev escapes at the last possible second before the laser touches him and the Dev and girl fly off in a pilfered Catalyst before the asteroid self destructs in the background.
Its all about presentation baby.

Unlikely /c By my math, 40M would have been about 500 BPOs. A chore to be certain, but certainly within the realm of possible.

We used to tell all the rookies passing through one of his gate camps to be on the lookout, and to be sure to chat him up in local if they wanted a really good deal on a TB BPO.
Some of the local chat that ensued afterwards (while very lolworthy) could make a person with Tourette's Syndrome cringe.

Heroes: Pell Helix and SYJ for helping protect Hero Coalition. Also, James 315 for instituting law in a formerly lawless high sec
Villains: Psychotic Monk for the mass destruction he causes among seemingly innocent corps.
Note: This is based on the roles these players have chosen to play. Tomorrow James could be back to scamming, SJY could take up a contract against CVA, and Monk could save high sec with these roles being reversed. It is hard to assign a static definition to those terms, especially in Eve. How does one go about deciding what makes a hero or a villain? Is there a standard one can measure a player's actions by? Or is it all subjective? |
