I find i turn the music off, and just have the game sounds on, I only really want them on becuse i alt and tab between two chars and hand to hear if one if beeing locked when using the other.
How ever I find that eve sound gets really choppy when you run two clients, and in the end you have to trun off the sound on one account, to get rid of the sound lag. ----------------------------------------------

I have to say the sound isn't too bad - ah well I mean the music. One of the things that used to give the game atmosphere back in Ye Olde Days when I was swayed to play by such considerations. The problem I have is the Audio lags the client to hell on my PC. I don't get trouble like this with other games I play, so I don't think it's my motherboard or drivers.
I suppose it needs to be more efficiently managed (coded), like the graphics!

Custom engine sounds for different ships like those in star wars would be cool. It would be nice to be able to hear what type of ship is closest to you as well as see.

Yep, sounds need a bit work. Regarding Autocannons, I would love it if they had a constant rattling sound instead of the short volleys they do right now. It wouldn't fit with the way damage is applied, but still it would be totally awesome i think.

Hooray, I'm not alone anymore!
Definitly not, I even tend to mediate to the music while mining.

Caldari engines have definitly different sound compared to minmatar engines, when undocking I can tell that there is a blackbird or caracal accelerating - haven't yet listened to an osprey or moa - from their specific sound. ******************** Those without a tribe can only keep their word.

If you think about it sound really is important!
Imagine..say WoW without sound, or CS without sound or guild wars without sound. I'm sure those games won't be as fantastic as before.
Whenever I'm playing eve and my non-eve friends are around and they heard the warp drive for the first time all of them commented that it sounded quite good.
Autocannons in EVE just doesn't sound like ACs. They fire in short bursts instead of constant rattles.
Engines definitely need to sound better with distinct hums for each race and ship class(bs,bc,cruiser, dreads, etc) at least.

With two clients on one box, sound is a big nono because it is causing a lot of problems when you're in a fight.
That includes music as much as all the other nice to hear when solo sounds.
I tested it over the last couple of days and I am back to soundless EVE again.
EAN and EVE do not work together. The EVE soundsystem even changes settings in the sound driver ... And that happens only with EVE. --*=*=*-- Megadon CCP wanted a well known artist and celebrity to test the new font so it's approval would be well known. They got Ray |

How about custom sounds?
Make people quit whining bout it and get their own preffered sounds or just no sounds. Whatever makes them appy. |

Some of the sounds are pretty good. There are a fwe sounds that could use a little polishing, but that boils down to personal preference.
The unmutable warp sound makes it unbearable after a while. The performance problems when you're running two clients are just bleh. (And having to set your sound driver settings back to what you want after playing EVE is YUCK) --*=*=*-- Megadon CCP wanted a well known artist and celebrity to test the new font so it's approval would be well known. I use the sound when I am not paying attention and doing something else when making longer trips, lets me know if I am being targeted.

Edited by: Gothikia on 11/05/2006 00:32:09 I have to agree, sound most definetly has to be improved. As lots of folks know it causes major lag in the client, perhaps with the trinity upgrades shunting the graphics processing mainly to the gpu, the sound architecture will get some loving and use the cpu space that the graphics took up.
For the vista client they NEED to do this anyways becuase of the new driver models and the 64 bit float sound architecture (w00t! no more int32 sound!) So i think CCP will work on this, they said right from the very beggining that they wanted to get the sound right because so many other companies got it wrong, and invested heavily and done alot of work on the sound itself, only problem is, it dosn't work all that well.
Whenever I can i have the sound on, only times i dont is when im in a large PVP op.
EDIT: Maybe we should make a cute flash like GoonFleet and we might get what we want...

I have just the sound effects going (firing weapons with no sound is just wrong), but have winamp going in the background.

I have to agree with people when they say the sound is pretty poor. However, even with the audio being low quality I still have it enabled, the world just feels to empty if I'm playing in silence (and listening to my own music). |
