First let me say that before I saw the new images, I though the current graphics were awesome. Now they look plain to me... the new models are amazing.
As for my opinion on some of the issues mentioned here.. I like what Xerxes and Diana said. I have to agree with the idea that the new scorp is too "clutered" looking. I also agree that all of them are too dark. The Executioner is a good example of what I would like to see in all the new skins.. they didn't change much about the ship, they just brought more detail to it. Where as all sorts of stuff got added to the Apoc and the Scorp.
As for the new Scorp "not being caldari". I've always had an issue with the basic design of the ships. All their ships, and most the ships in the game for that matter, are Asymetrical. This has always been evidence to me that the designs were created by "artists" (damn good ones), and not "engineers". Engineers are the people who would really have designed these space ships IRL, and engineers like things symetrical. Symetrical designs are also the most efficiant and simplistic, 2 things that the Caldari are supposed to be geared towards.
So from the start, I've never felt our ships really matched our design phylosophy. So to me, from that standpoint, changes that people here consider "un-Caldari" because of what the "Caldari ideals" are, is a false premise. So, are they very different from the Caldari ships that we know and "love", yes very much so.
Despite all that... it obvious that what ever the design, EVE has some incredible artists working for them and for that I am very grateful and appreciative. The new engine will make for some great looking stuff. _____________________________ Nukem from orbit... It's the only way to be sure. |

I disagree. The M1A2 Abrams main battle tank isn't symmetrical, nor is a modern day aircraft carrier. ___________________

The Aircraft carrier is a unique creature with specific reasons for it's structure... the M1 on the other hand is mostly symetrical, with only a few of the features being out of symetry. Look at all the other naval ships out there and you will see that they are 99% symetrical.
Most of the ships in Eve on the other hand appear to be Asymetrical, just for the sake of being that way.

Right, so why can't there be reasons why a ship in the vaccuum of space is asymmetrical like the aircraft carrier? ___________________

E3 dev blog and download the images, file size is 80 odd megs, but worth it for the abbadon alone, although the others are looking nice too,but they have to still use the same hull as the current versions for the sake of continuity,so it limits to retexturing them...
i have no issue with the antennas on the back of the Apoc, just that they should be a lot smaller in lenght...
Abbadon is now my desktop background...

Originally by: Bazman Seriously, to the people that say they look horrible, would you rather keep the junky looking, half-bugged ships we have now?
All these ships look godly compared to what we have right now
I think your missing what some people are saying. Yes the new ones look a ****e load better, but some of them are loosing some of their race stylings in the process. CCP need to keep at it IMO, and continue to improve the models while keeping the ship features more close to what made each race stand out. (and damm it new caldari ships need to stop being grey boxes and start having wings and tails again...)

lol this had me laughing for ages! :)
Not sure, but I think the apoc looks good. I like the dark surface, it gives the impression of one tank of a battleship, which it is. I think all the models fit the ships perfectly.
I really think you will have to wait till yuo can try it on the test server before making a final judgement. -=====-

i just think the scorps shape makes it looks crap, it doesn't look functional, if it had two "wings" it'd look like the weight was more balanced. It doesn't look like it was designed from its components/purpose upwards, it just looks like it was purposely designed to look like an ass. -----------------
Where'd me pod go? |
