Another patch another font change. Better or worse? You choose:
3900 vs. 3908
I tried to make them similar enough to show the detail for comparison, side by side.
Setting for both were normal witdth, 12pt menus on a 1024x768 screen.
I like it, it works well on Sisi and is easy to read.

There is a noticeable improvement in the clarity and readability, but I don't think the font is really 'new'. I'm pretty sure they are just tweaking the font rendering engine to not suck.
I still like the old Serif font from pre-Exodus...

Not just you. The only picture where I see any difference whatsoever is the menu, and only the spacing - the individual characters all look the same to me.

Again? Do you have many chicks on the development team? This seems like a typical chick thing, let's change this for the sake of changing it, it doesn't give off a pink enough aura.
Leave it alone the current font looks great, no changing of outfits to suit your moods please!

Someone at CCP needs to read up and typography and visual comprehension abit. Not to mention, concider how "easy" the fonts are to read if you play in higher resolutions (1280x1024/960 or 1600x1200).

It's not entirely identical. It seems the new font's characters are a tiny bit wider than the old font. Doesn't make much difference to me, but I guess it's slightly easier to read.

Spacing is a bit wider, line height has been adjusted a wee bit.
It needs roughly twice the space to show the info as it did with the pre-unicode font.
The font that's been designed ignoring each and every font design rule is unchanged.
Some monitors can't show that font sharp on top of the bad font design because of the client rendering it in an awful way.

right-click menu font has smaller spacing, feels more readable to me. Nice change.
The description font wasn't changed at all. You can check it easily in Photoshop -- overlay one over the other, set the 'difference' mode for top layer... they match pixel for pixel.

ok, i might need a new pair o glasses instead of a new font, sure, but I tend to be ok with most every other app but eve which really put some strain on me eyes.
Why doesnt CCP try to get the font ergonomically right instead of designer right, even forget a compromise ffs, just hire someone who knows ok.
Hoping for a serious change to all this bull**** s been going on since too long.

its the same font.
The font sucks no matter how you look at it, more kerning isnt going to make it look better.(old - 1111, new- 1 1 1 1)i.e. you can put icing on a pile of sh** but it is still a pile of sh**.
there are much better fonts out there that can be used with unicode, so lets see the actual font change to one that will not make the difference between a I, 1, l, and o,0,O amonst other annoying things, LESS ANNOYING and unreadable.

A lot of CRT's and even some LCD's. It's especially bad on Iiyama CRT's. Guess what are some of the best monitors on the market, and I use at home (19") AND at work (21"). Yep! They're brilliant for everything else so I really can't justify a change :/

I Agree,I play at high resolution. The graphics look great, but PLEASE let me adjust the font to what is comfortable to me. Both in size and width. Not just a choice between 10pt and 12pt. I end up dragging my client to a different monitor set in a different resolution in order to "zoom" in to read. A minor anoyance, but one everyone who runs high res has.

Hmmm... no noticable difference on the 2 different LCD panels I'm using at work.
My 7 year old CRT at home displays the pre-3908 font with no problems at 1280x1024, any bigger and the 12pt fonts in Windows get murky.
This signature is a tribute to the greatest signature of all time.

I'am using resolution 1280/1024.
This new font is terrible. There is a space between line. When using the chat option "text only" on a chat , we now see 30% less text than before for the same chat windows.
Please CCP give us an option to restore the old font !!!

I just logged on, and I have to say the new font is a major annoyance. Especially the line spacing in chat windows it horrible. This is in my opinion a case of 'fixing a running system'. Please CCP, see that you revert those unneccessary changes asap.

To put it mildly, I am VERY frustrated with the font "changes" CCP keeps making. For context on how I view the game:
3 PCS:
Laptop - 1920x1200 widescreen LCD, I run it in both full screen and windowed @ 1600x1050
Desktop1 - 1280x1024 17" CRT - run in full screen
Desktop2 - 1024x768 17" CRT - run in full screen
As you can see, a wide variety.
Personal sight traits :
I like very small text and I can view it very well, even from a good distance. I don't have a problem reading text at 1600x1200 on a 14" laptop screen ( I have this at work )
The biggest difference I see with the new changes is in spacing... and most annoyingly , there is a huge gap between each players chat lines now. This is very frustrating to me because I want to be able to see as much chat as possible in as small an area as possible, so I don't have chat windows covering my viewable area.
And for the BIGGEST issue, what I don't understand is how they can make all these changes and NOT address the biggest issue...
You still CAN'T tell the difference between:
"0" (zeros) and "O" (ohs)
"5" (fives) and "S" (esses)
"6" (sixes) and "&" (ampersands)(sp?)
The biggest aggrivation is the zero's thing... I live in 0.0, and it can very frustating trying to search for a system name that has either one in it, you have no idea which one it is and you have to work with trial and error. 0.0 can be dangerous and I don't have time to trying figure that stuff out.

Hey, it's only since december '05 that we got the most horribly designed font of all games I know since Elite(C64).
Barely enough time for ccp's UI design team to find out that there are problems with it.

I never noticed that the & symbol looked like the 6 until I read this post, then tested it. I always had problems distinguising it from a G. Whenever I'd type P&P, people would ask "What's PGP?"
As far as the font goes, I could live with it as is, but would REALLY prefer there to be a way to choose from installed fonts on your system already. It would take all but 30 extra seconds for EVE to scan my fonts folder for compatible fonts to build the list for me.
On that note, would it be terrible to allow UI customization? I'm tired of my screen being filled with chat windows and inventory windows and a bulky HUD. This is with my max screen resolution (limited by my 17" monitor, not my video card) of 1280x1024. I should have plenty of room, but I don't. I know either I or someone else could come up with a snazzy new layout for people like me.

I'd be happier with Times New Roman or even Ariel, I do see a small difference, but to be totally honest I'm not sure it's just because I'm told that there is Why the hell does it have to be so bloody 'Square' anyway? Angles don't make Sci-Fi I'm sure we got over that in the 80's

I vote for a major font change as well. At a minimum the font should be extremely readable, with actual aesthetic design considerations thrown out the window. It may be a good idea to use different fonts for different purposes as well. A serif font for descriptions and a sans serif for the HUD, for instance. Taking it a bit further, the user should have more control over font size, maybe a 13pt selection will help some.
I would be suprised if CCP has never consulted with a big font company, but you never know.

The new font is just... BAD. I use 12pt and extended in 1600x1200, and it keeps getting harder and harder to read. PLEASE PLEASE! Make the extended be just that!

I don't like the new font either. The moment I logged on I just noticed something wasn't right. Then I noticed the chat spacing and my entire UI just felt bigger as if I had gone down in resolution. Guess this has to do with the font spacing being changed 
Change is good and all but at least give us the option to revert to the old look.

Sorry I dont see the difference ... oops Im using Microsofts Tahoma for the lower case any how so theres no change for me.
Personally the font isnt going to change much because .....
a) --- its futuristic so angles rule as per all 1970 sci fi.....which we all know is absolute faeces.
b) --- To license a workable/ usable font will cost CCP a lot of money. So they use the free 8 bit fonts from so many 1980s games ... aka defender / elite etc.
c) --- If you take the time to break into the font you will actually see it has been created in a, let me say " very poor fashion " and " on the cheap" so to speak.
There are better fonts out there but for ccp to use them then they have to pay.
You youself can change the the font by breaking the EULA. just the same way you have your own music list etc. You get the game you want to play and it doesnt cost CCP anything.
anyway back to doing things.... stuff ..... what ever.

Again they screwed up the text. When you hover over the left buttons on the neo com they look stupiditly congested into one another... The space fonts looks... "unusual", while the rest... no difference

That's damn hilarious... in a sad way. :( Now, many cyrillic users are screwed, as the font is ugly. The symbols are spaced so wide to each other (when you use cyrillics), that you can easily fit extra symbols in between. Well, the reason is obvious. They made spacing wider to fit in asian hieroglyph, but it doesn't mean that we have to suffer now. Seems like they care now more about asian community, than about us... :(
Damn, devs make it possible for us to choose different fonts.

CCP hire this person, and fire the current font-master.
If the reasoning is to allow for asian charactors, then do this craptastic fubaring of fonts on the new asian server, not on OURS.
PLease evemail me the link on how to change the font like you have, if it is a choice to break eula or quit the game, I will break the eula.

font mod 4tw!
tested, a few small flaws (font overlapps a few things, but remains legible in ALL areas)
I recommend CCP allow this, or face the chance of banning a few thousand players that break eula so they can read the menus in the game the pay a fee to play (without worrying their eyes will explode).

CCP, pls, oh pls, can't you make a font that has clear differences between "D" and "O", and "8" and "B" and others. After few months in game I still don't know whether it's CBO Corporation or CBD Corporation in Caldari space

don't forget that & looks like either B or 8, which is less than helpful. Olly Wins the prize, font designers get raped in hell forever.

Thats at 1280 x 1024. condensed font width . Size 10 menu font.
The splash screen looks a tad dodgy but sod it.
It could be available for download, but not here Im afraid as it is a EULA breaker.

I have tweaked the version a bit more having been asked to add a more definiative zero now.
( and also have slightly scaled down the font for a slightly better fit.)

Dear CCP a font that is unable to differ between single chars horrible fails it use - readability. Please add difference to 0 and O, between & and 6 between 8 and B.

hi again . yes I have a font now that works around the ccp double spacing so It is possible to "show all" for courier missions
the font now uses a work around solution, via swapping between condensed and normal,
I have been told its ok and (apart from that instance ) works fine. Im still working on the metrics as some letters have become slightly corrupt - but this is only visible ( invisible ) during game play,
It is a shame I cant post the link here but I stand by ccps wishes / rules
however as many know , all variants are available for download, by simply eve mailing me.( Ill soon have a dedicated site up and running but for the moment it is how it is )
dont give up on the game just becauce the font is poor ... try mine :)

I must admit(and Im new to all this) but 0llyies( is that howy ou spell it ) help and guidance and simple hard work ( lets face it ,to come up with a new set of characters .must have needed some effort) have let me continue on what is I think a brilliant game.

Sorry, I thank you for your support into making a better font. However I do not wish any individual to get into any trouble from the powers that be.
I will get a site up and running and the font variation will be my last for a week or so. ( Depends on my saignificant other half :)( ( damned If I know the sign for that one)

Keep churning out excellent fonts like that and they'll be banning an awful lot of people.
CCP either hire this man or let it be known that using "User Defined" fonts is ok with you and people won't get the ban stick thrown at them ?
Could a font change even be detected by CCP for that matter ?

I am sick of this character being called Domi. I don't like Gallente ships, stop calling me one.
Since I bought a new screen with a higher resolution, it has also gotten worse. I've lost count of the number of times I've seen conversations in channels regarding something, and there's been confusion about the letters.
CCP, please, I implore you. At least permit us to change the font.

I play in 1920x1200 and although the font on the whole is fairly clear, there's still the 0O 1I ,. and the spacing issues. Nothing beat the Cold War font imo. It fit perfectly and was the easiest to read.
Here's a couple of recent screenies, and although you can make out all the text, the spacing issues are quite noticable.

Well while Olly saved EVE for me (and is responsible for making the legibility difference that allowed me to buy the game, rather than leave during my trial), it seems CCP has struck back. It looks like the game now ignores the replacement font file. I believe it now grabs it from the res.stuff file. Maybe someone will figure out how to edit that archive -- assuming it isn't protected by some sort of CRC check.
Or maybe CCP will realize that some of us just want to be able to play the damn game, and to do that we need to read the text. And give the ability to change the font back.
