creating lag with cans is always bad no matter what and you should get a ban.
and if you would look outside the box there are a lot of things you could do to hurt the pirates then just create lag.
Agreed and tbh I'd take it one step further and ban all the secure cans that are left for months if not years at the asteroid belts in all safe sec systems. I went to have a look at a few of them the other day and there were 100's if not 1000's in one system with about 6 belts. The roids were so small you could hardly see them and the cans were everywhere. I flaming hate cans!

Originally by: Peblan I dont get it.. Pirates complaining about people exploiting? I think you should take what actions of recourse come your way.. If you choose to live the life of a pirate then I guess there are means of retribution. Fighting fire with fire is not the best way.. if some jerko wants to waste his time annoying you then I applaud him.. I know im about to get flamed but if I cant take down soemone with firepower then I will try to come up with something else.. much like an opportunistic player who blasts an unsuspecting miner. I know this isnt real life but I think people should take responsibility for there actions. This game does not cater to pirates or everyone would be pirates.. and how the heck does a nomadic pirate tribe keep up with a pos anyway???
This is the one argument i really cannoty stand. The "please, carebear up eve" and the "omgwtf remove caldari" and the "remove concord entirely" arguments are all stupid in their own ways and are treated as such, but none of them suggest that exlpoiting is OK as long as the target is a pirate as this does. Having bigger guns, or better tactics allow you to win a fight within the game mechanics. Exploiting is bad, totally and utterly, as it allows an unfair advantage. If the pirate keeps within the game rules, anyone hunting him should too. If he doensn't, he should be petitioned.
If I ever see you or anyone else trying to exploit to kill a pirate, even if its a pirate who has podded me 150 times for no reason, I will petition the offender and not drop it until they are banned. I honestly hope that next time you post something like that, a GM puts all your modules and your warp core offline next time a pirate warps into your belt, and then gets the pirate to send a message saying "but i thought you said exploits were fine when used on criminals. See how you like it..."

Heh, bob8 sent me one of my favourite pieces of mail. The Cult had been contracted against his then alliance and we found a mining op going on in Juunigaishi. Would have been rude not to break it up, so we obliged.
Later on that night, I was solo in my Ares and was passing by that system again, so I decided to poke my head in on the off chance that there might be someone there. Lo and behold, I found bob8 solo mining in his Retriever. After I'd podded him, he sent me 0.1 ISK, so I sent him a mail thanking him for his contribution. His reply made me smile:
2005.11.24 18:11 u jumped my ore ship but u killed my pod ,some big ass fight and cost me a couple 100mill isk in implants.....ya real good sport. BOB8

I think I'm up to 10 isk by now - he says he's paying 6mil to me, the rest of the 10mil I demanded from him when I ransomed him, one bit at a time. I was playing around with some math, and I was calculating that it would take him until 2016 to pay it off, so yarr .

Let me get this straightend out in my head. You're corpmate can kill some guy who can't fight back. He then tries to take revenge and uses cans as a tactic to in effect block up the entrance to your base so you bump around on them looking for a clear path to warp. You then complain to CCP and somehow HE gets in trouble?

OK, but why are using cans as a tactic called an exploit at all? By calling it an exploit (something done by using the game machanics), aren't you trying to "carebear" it up?
And what 13 year old came up with this whole term of "carebear" as an insult anyway? What I find funny is adults using it, making fools of themselves.

I think that is pretty awesome by bob8. I don't condone the use of exploits in no shape or form. But he accomplished what he set out to do. Make your game inconveniant. He made you lag up for quite a bit, and make you waste your time filing a petition. The worst he got was say.. a warning?
lol. Pretty funny though none-the-less.

Because it is an exploit. If the cans just got in the way, it would be different. But a lot of cans outside the station will cause lag which will affect everyone there. That is a method of disrupting someone's gameplay that is not part of the game mechanics, and therefore it is an exploit.

edit: People like him seek attention and this is exactly what your giving him. I bet he's laughing his ass off at this post, while you think your putting him down. hehe.
Actually, the GM sat and watched him haul all the cans away. Much better than a warning. -- [THARS] is recruiting Originally by: Mephysto solo-mining in a 0.4 system? Its wrong NOT to pod you...

petitioning someone you ransomed, especially someone in a hauler...because he canspammed you? I think that's taking the easy way out, and not very piraty. As anyone following the darker path of Eve, you need a thick skin...and NEVER petition anyone.
But I'm just a lowly thief, what the hell would I know.

To sum things up for those of you that don't understand EVE rules...
Combat (consentual or not) is LEGAL.
Spamming cargo cans is ILLEGAL.
How did I come to this crazy/stupid/sadistic/whatever conclusion? These are the things that CCP have said are the rules, if you don't like them, quit the game. If you don't agree with CCP's rules, it's too bad, this is their universe and they are god. --

Completely agreed. There is a difference between cheating and playing by the rules, regardless of who it is used against.

If YOU were making a run for or leaving this station in your ship and you hit a wall of lag that allowed a nearby pirate to blow you up and pod you before you even had chance to load the screen, would you still find it acceptable?
