If Ramona had been a character in the Harry Potter books, instead of someone's EVE toon, she'd have probably been one of the first non-villains to bust out the dark arts. That moment when you realize the crazy lady with all the cats was right... |

I think the better approach would be to have Legion as a F2P game with the option of a subscription that offers you enough incentives for you to cough up the monthly fee. Pretty much what Planetside 2 is doing now. Edit: Alternatively allow us to pay for it monthly with PLEX. Oh, gods.... that's the old "F2P" model. Penny Arcade roasted that practice with a rather scathing comic about the differences between paid subscriber and free player.... not many people do it anymore, after that.
Wargaming uses that business model for World of Tanks and continues to be highly successful, Gaijin Entertainment does the same with Star Conflict and War Thunder and I am sure that there are others that use that as their business model and who are successful.
If your game uses a F2P model, not only do you open the doors to a lot of gamers, you also provide a body count for people to have matches and so forth. Putting that behind a subscription wall would limit that significantly. |

Confirming PLEX is not a microtransaction that permeates almost every aspect of this game and finds new uses almost every expansion.
The issue isn't that DUST is F2P, the issue is that CCP's 'laser focus' on DUST and the PS3, (and, it was assumed, eventually the PS4) ended up with console players having their game taken from them. A big part of the issue is also that players went to Iceland to find out about DUST and got exactly zero information about the future of DUST.
The issue isn't with age, either. I doubt Ralph has any kind of numbers to back up his claim, but my experience playing DUST has been with guys in their early 30s. The youngest was 22.
And you think these forums at their worst aren't comparable to DUST right now? Incarna something something WiS blahblah $1,000 pants or something like that. It's great that our tight knit lovable community gives the console guys on DUST the finger so quickly. That'll teach those monkeys to play games on anything less than a PC! It would be wrong as an EVE player to pay subs for two games at once from the same company. But any player that plays a CCP game should pay one but only ONE sub, not two. It could be easily done for all games, that the sub would pay for your account rather than a single game. |

Yes, I was thereGäó during Summer of Rage. It was nowhere near that bad.
As for that "had their game taken away".... I am still completely refusing to believe that all those DUSTbunnies don't own a PC. I just plain don't believe it. Anyone who can afford a console can afford a PC. It makes no sense to pay for an internet connection to just play console games and have Netflix. A pay wall is almost as good as a subscription for keeping out the riffraff. If that happened, then CCP would still have to rely on microtransactions to make the game profitable. I thought we were against most forms of microtransactions here? So long as it isn't as brutally pay to win as DUST is, I don't particularly mind. What did you have in mind as a subscription price, by the way? Because no first person shooter in existence is worth $15 a month.
Not in existence butGǪ I would pay that for a Fallout 3 MMO. Everytime since I played the game and I see a person on the tv or movie screen die I have this weird urge to loot its corpse to see what he/she/it has on it. Just think of it with freely roaming super mutants attacking you from behind while you're trying tp PvP or you just set up your corp's shop in an abandoned vault only to find it run over with fire ants the next day.
Would definitely be a shut up and take my money case. :)
If CCP could somehow do something like that within the EVE universe, and not just a run and shoot everything but take the stuff that's on Tranquility and project it onto ground surface, awhmaigodGǪ >.> |

While i agree the Dust bunnies got boned, the fact remains that there is only a small handful of them playing the game. 4 or 5,000 active players spending a few bucks here and there is not enough to support game development or hosting. If CCP wasn't making any cash, why would they want to continue to drop company resources towards that particular game.
The PS4 is built more like a PC then the ps3 was. It leaves a door open to port Legion over without having to re-write the entire game. Couple that with the fact that the ps3 is hitting the landfills, and it makes sense for CCP from a business standpoint. I like to know the actual numbers, but i doubt Dust was even making the salary of 1 or 2 developers.
CCP should stick with what they know regarding pricing and the cost of playing their games. Give Legion the same payment system as EvE and call it a day. (aka, monthly sub, or PLEX if you want to grind it out.) If they want Legion to be another F2P game, it's going to die in a fire of 4-5 thousand players just like Dust did.

I think it's safe to say it's proof positive CCP should discourage players less than 16 years of age. Possibly they could also enforce a minimum IQ to play akin to the height requirement for many carnival rides.
You must be this smart: 110+ To play this game.

$40-$50 a month for internet? Are you guys talking Euros or something?
My internet is 3x that here in New England. (Comcast,.. err Comcrap, depending on how it's working.)
With some of the games I like to play, I have zero tolerance for slow connections and bad ping rates. With EvE, most patches take a few minutes or less and even an expansion download takes around 10 minutes.

Exactly. CCP has been flattening that curve.
I do realize my new requirements would potentially eliminate a lot of goons (and others), but as a community I am certain we can muddle through, and goons could take this as a real opportunity use the SA forums for education purposes to "graduate" viable and quasi-educated EVE players who could at least solve the captcha.
