Edit: Ha, I was wrong.

The way I understand how missions are triggered according to this thread is that the required items must be in sufficient numbers in the region your agent is in. So for a memory implant mission to be triggered, Y numbers of item X have to be on the market in your region. If this is the case, then the secret will not last long because as soon as you put item X on the market to trigger the mission for your agent, it will also trigger the mission for everyone else in the region. Even if you put item X on the market right before you talk to you agent, the sell order can't be cancelled for 5 minutes. I guess what I'm saying is might as well just let everyone know what it is.

You are right - but guess what - you can put the item on for mega amounts so that no-one buys them

I'm selling mine for 1M per unit. Not 'insane' just 'crazy.'
I figure Memory implants are going for 40M, I charge a percent tax for carting these goods halfway across the universe.

True enough - unfortunately at this point just knowing what the item is doesn't help you. In order to complete the mission you actually have to OBTAIN the item - usually between 10 and 20 units. If the only units available are selling for 10M, are you going to want to finish the mission?

Yes, but whole point of my post was to point out that eventually item X will be identified even if no one wants to post what it is. That's all.
However, now that everyone knows what to look for, everyone will be looking for Superconductors. They have to come from somewhere so the trick is to find where they come from.

Super Conductors
Well that is ridiculous then. Superconductors ar the most badly populated item in the Eve universe. Worse than Plutonium even. With the way the agent logic works to have an agent missions based upon them is just stupid.
So much for thinking this one through prior to implementation.

Maybe they did think it through. Maybe they didn't want every implant to be as common as Tritanium?

They are BASIC items, and on top of it, they're consumables; you lose them when you die. Having to do an agent mission to get a replacement is bad enough.
If they aren't supposed to be common, then how rare are the standard implants gonna be? One implant in the universe? How about advanced? Elite?
What's the point? |

Almost everything in EVE is consumable, that's what keeps a player-driven economy rolling.
Right now these are not "basic" items - just because they have basic in the name doesn't mean they're common.
With the new continuous feed commodity market everyone has a chance to get the commodity necessary to complete the memory implant mission - but it's going to take awhile and in the meantime this item is actually WORTH something. God forbid.

Agenda shape much?
The most likely point is that they didn't think it through from a market perspective and just tried to pick items that would make sense to a certain extent.
Now I have to go pump a level 2 agent repeatedly to get enough supply to prop up the market in the region I have my decent level 3 agent in just for the chance at a MEM implant.
Yeah, that sounds precisely what they had in mind - in comparison to the other items which are in infinitely greater demand.
