Hello,
Some of you know me and many of you do not.
Recently there has been ALLOT of specualtion amd propoganda about myself and evegathering.com and the player guide and all the ISD stuff etc. etc..
First and foremost...
I owe an Apology to ISD and all it's staff. I had a bad day and I went off in the help channel on ISD staff....
I am a person who has a lower tolerance for certain things. Lack of compassion is one of those things. When rules are inforced there is no compassion and there cannot be.
To make a long story short this is what transpired...
About a month ago my mother was diagnosed with cancer, two weeks ago my brother was diagnosed with a possibly fatal kidney tumor. On top of that I own and operate a successful company that demands my full attention. What little free time I get (usually at my offices while working) I played EvE. I gave, what I could, to the community for what resouces I had.
Well to say the least i hit a boiling point and slammed it all onto ISD and thier rules. I broke those rules.
I posted a very rude and a highly knee jerk reaction ...for this I am truly sorry and ashamed.
For this I owe a formal apology to all ISD staff and CCP and the community overall.
I hope this ends any speculation and concerns over my personality. I hope this ends some of the hatred expressed to my team and staff all though it has been minimal and mostly trolls and people with issues they never address. We are extremely passionate about EVE and even more so about the community it fosters.
For all we do and all we have accomplised in EvE there is no words to express my actions and feelings over this matter. There is nothing I personally can say to help the trolls not feed on what we accomplish and bash what we do even though we do it out of pure love of the game EvE.
Myself, and evegathering.com staff, have for several years, just tried to be "compassionate and helpful" to this community. Our words were nothing and still are nothing as we are only a very small part the eve community. Our actions speak volumes though. This is all we ever wished to "accomplish". A little compassion in a not so compassionate system.
So there you have it...for what ever its worth. I payed my dues with more then anyone here will ever know or understand most likely.
Personally, I love EvE.
Am I staying in this wonderously ground breaking community and game? ...Yes. I have accounts back into 2003
Will we be able to keep going at our pace of evegathering.com and the annual las vegas gathering?...we hope so..and we have some kick ass plans we think. ...but I would not blame CCP if they turned there nose up at my actions.
Will we continue our IGB guide? Yes, but with limited additions in the next month or so but it will always be available to those whom need it.
In closing...
My sincerest apologies to all ISD staff. My sincerest apologies to CCP. Most of all my sincesest apologies to the eve community.
feel free to flame me... at least I was honest...
/me quietly bows his head in shame...for letting life beat him down recently...
So there you have it... This is all I will comment on this.
Next time you post.. stop and think, even if you hit a boiling point... you do not want to ever be in my shoes...

However from what I hear you are a valuable member of our comunity, and your appology seems genuine, for whatever it is you did

What I did was exercise very poor "conflict management skills" and flew off the handle for the wrong reasons... ...something i rarely do...but it happened and I can never take it back. All I can do is apologize and make sure it doesn't happen again. Nothing more.

I can well understand where you were when the incident happened, in RL I am/was much the same, particularly towards a percieved injustice. I reckon we are all entitiled to the occasional heavy reaction, and given you RL circumstances I cannot blame you.
Takes alot of guts to apologise, especially towards 100 thousand people, so thank you. Glad to hear you are not going to quit. Moreover I am sure EVE is better with you here than not.

I'm glad to see that you've changed your mind about quitting Bob. It's a shame you're perma-banned from the Help channel tho. I was there when it happened, and I sent and email expressing concern to CPP and Kieron was good enough to reply to it personally, in a very professional manner. I do thank him for that.
Rules are rules but I am always willing to make exceptions and bend them, especially when I don't see anything wrong with contradicting a rule for my own purposes(of good intent), even when others would abuse the absense of a rule. CPP and the ISD staff must of course maintain a firm line on the rules however, there can't be too many shades of grey or people will cry out over the "unfairness".
Given that, the ISD really had no choice in this situation. We all have a bad day, and quite frankly Bob your recent incidents are absolutely horrific, and it would be nice to think that we could forgive what you did and move on, but if CCP did that it could hurt them in the future.
Still. I feel I must ask, to all the moderators and ISD staff, is there any way you might reconsider Bob's permanent ban from the Help channel, to perhaps an extremely lengthy ban instead? I know that to show Blackhole Bob any leniency is something you may not be willing to do, and for very good reasons that I do understand, but I feel I must try.
Bob, I wish you and your family well, and I am glad to see someone who is willing to belittle themselves and apologize when they've realized they've been rash, as I know it is not an easy thing to do. Perhaps I'll make the trip out and see you in Vegas in 2007...

Dude, having 2 family members diagnosed with something like that, that's terrbile luck. I recently had a family member die of bone cancer, so I know how you feel, although they weren't as close to as me as that. I wish them goodluck, and I hope the cancer and tumor are treated and 100% removed. I perfectly understand you lashing out, and the fact that you made a formal apology for it proves that whatever you did was out of anger, stress, and pressure.

nice story you tell Wizzboy. Only problem is that Blackholebob didnt ask for his punishment to be revoked and CCP didnt offer to have his punishment revoked either.

Bob, what an amazing post. I've known you in the Help channel for a long time and you're a great guy. I wasn't there when you flew off the handle, but I've been there myself. We're all human and that means we make mistakes. What matters is what we do afterwards. (This is partly directed at TheWizz<sillynumber>). I think it's a great sign of responsibility to be able to come on here and make a public apology like this.
I hope your family the best. Cancer is tough, but some do beat it. Keep your hopes up. I will miss you in the Help channel, so maybe I should start hunting you down instead.

learn to read wizz...or for once keep your mouth closed, he went a bit ott on the help chanel, got perman banned from it still is perma banned. its not an easy thing to have people you care for been diagnosed with something so terrible...i went through the same thing 4 years back and ranting on a online game was nothing compared to my reaction to it. bob has not made the greatest impression of me from watching his interactions on the forums, but my sympathys are with him..so kindly take your sanctamoniums BS somewere where people actualy give a damn what you say (i.e. not on the eve forums)

He apparently went crazy on the help channel and got banned for it and now apologised for it and CCP accepted his apology while keeping him banned from the help channel. Same treatment as anyone else would have gotten under the same circumstances regardless of any personal circumstances that might have come into play.
Next time you try to act smart in a thread, atleast have a basic understanding of whats going on.

Where I differ from most is I need nothing from CCP or ISD to support this community...offer the resources we bring freely..with no payment required.
I need not to ask for anything nor expect special treatment.
kieron has been in contact with me through out all this, he has been very professional. We have tried our best to be professional also.
Yes I am still banned. Although if I desire, I have many alts and accounts to move into help channel and continue to help.
you see this was not about what a jerk I am...or who was right or wrong. Because to be honest I have no agenda to suck up, shmooze or bias my sentiments, because I want something from CCP or a job or anything....
This was simply and apology...with no excuses...
One thats been overdue for a few years...

Dear Blackhole BoB,
I lost my mother to cancer 2 years ago today, something I will never get over. I went off the rails completely hurling abuse at the very people I needed for support. I dont care who you are or what you did to get a perma-ban from the help channels, you have my respect and admiration for posting an apology in here.
It takes courage and fortitude to say when one is wrong and has wronged. My thoughts and wishes go with you and your family sir, may the future be brighter for you and those you love. It is also heart warming to see even complete strangers posting comments of support for you, this is why I love EVE and her community. Long may it continue.

Events in life can often push people into doing and saying things that they would not normally do.
I went mental for about 4 years after similar events took place in my RL.
You are a stand up guy for having the balls to be in the lions den apologising for something that happened, and in fairness happens to someone everywhere everyday.
I would also submit that were you a 'nobody' who had never been to help, run an EVE related website or made a IGB player guide a more temporary ban might have been placed.
In that respect you are a victim of your own success.
regardless of who does/doesnt like you it would be very difficult to find many people that have personally contributed more to the 'EVE community.'

Most of this is a flame, but on some weird level i agree. (Bob, i'm indifferent about you i dont know you, i dont know who you are what you do etc, this reply isnt aimed at you) that being said: being basically one of the bottom feeders of eve i can relate to this guy, at least part of what he says.
If i or anyone on my level as far as 'the cool kids' go screwed up, or if we needed help, or if we wanted something more than likely we'd be ignored. This isnt to flame you, Bob, you arent asking for anything special i dont blame you for your status, but it bears pointing out for everyone who reads this: Almost everyone who gets in trouble stays in trouble. Bad behavior almost always reciprocates punishment. In this case it hasnt (or to the extent it would have been arguably leveled against an average player), and should be treated as a rare occurance.
PS:
Please, please, please dont read this as a flame. I dont envy bob, or the other 'cool kids' but i felt i needed to say something to this effect.

A place I have helped for around 2 and a half years...
99% of the time i was fine... it's that 1% that no one forgets...
I am still permanently banned from that channel.
I was never banned from EvE.

I dont know you personally, but ive heard the rumours about you. From what ive heard, you really screwed up. But then again, i can understand how real-life issues can affect your mood in the game. Im sure with time ccp will let you back in the help channel.
Its strange though. From what you say about yourself, you have low tolerance levels and lack of compassion. Yet you obviously like helping people. You do realize this is sort of a paradox? But then again, understanding human behaviour is never simple. I still have trouble understanding myself.
